ParticipantAgree with the remixes comments. Have a look on soundcloud – people like kon and the reflex doing some amazing re-edits that are dj friendly.

ParticipantThank you guys. As ever preparation is the key I guess. I find it very hard with those sort of situations where you really don’t know what’s going to work until you get there. For example I had built up to a full dance floor at around 12 at which point I thought some contemporary pop would go down well – uptown funk etc. they were not into it at all so I had to change direction but it meant there was a very big chunk of music I had been relying upon that was now gone.

ParticipantThanks DJ Vintage. It’s a pretty small do – about 80 people so could probably get away with it. Some kind of backup sounds like the best bet though.

ParticipantFound a solution on the serato forum. You have to set the beat marker at the last correct point, not the first incorrect one and then adjust forward. All pretty simple after a little practice.

ParticipantI’m using serato itch. According to the manual and their website it is possible, you can set beat markers throughout the song which I think in theory means you can alter the spacing either side of those markers independently.

ParticipantSorry, thank you bhy as well!

ParticipantGreat, thanks for all the the help Terry. I’m off to ebay!

ParticipantI guess if nothing else I could have a laptop and twitch going into the 3rd channel on the mixer and he could have channels 1 and 2 hooked up to his laptop and 1210s. But you are saying with a faderfox (will have to find out what that is) we could both control the same laptop – him with 1210s and me with the Twitch? It’s not the path I was originally considering but must admit now I’ve seen it, the portability, size, affordability and most importantly simplicity of the twitch are very appealing. Maybe I should pursuade my dj partner to ditch the 1210s too – we could sell them all and buy some good speakers with the money!

ParticipantHmm, so I couldn’t use it with his gear linked up to his 1210s. Still tempted to use at home. But am I right in thinking we could have it all set up together – just not all interacting together?
Terry – I’m not really dismissive of jog wheels – appreciate as I said it’s completely irrational. I don’t really do any scratching – I just play various types of house music mainly.

ParticipantThanks Terry, good points, as I’ve said i’m not married to the 1210s and think a solution involving them is possibly too expensive and frankly unnecessary.
I have a completely irrational dislike for controllers with jogwheels – they always look like toys to me. So I’m thinking second hand Novation Twitch – have seen them on ebay for £250. That’s within budget, doesn’t seem like a compromise either – it’ll do everything I need and more at home AND will be a really nice addition to my friend’s Serato setup. And to my mind it looks very cool and like it’s a lot of fun to play with, which is important of course! Think this is a reasonable choice?
