ParticipantThanks Terry, great explanation! Totally get it now…. is there really that much lag if you’re triggering sample pads by midi.
This forum is a great resource, again thanks and cheers!

ParticipantI keep reading the term HID for controllers. Is this a new midi type standard? Or is it for using 4 decks on a CDJ? Pleas enlighten me someone/anyone… Can’t seem to get the answer via google…

ParticipantThanks Terry, yeah, checked Phil’s review on youtube. He didn’t exactly inspire me to rush out and buy it, like he did when I saw his review of Cross DJ! I’m now seriously leaning toward the Vestax Spin 2. (Can you or anyone let me know whether any of the controllers work with instant mapping to the software right out of the box ie, Cross with Spin 2 or whether you have to spend a lot of time mapping them yourself?) Much appreciation for all your help on this forum.

ParticipantJust found a music shop near me that stocks a Nu-Mark Mixtrack Pro 2 which is mapped to Cross DJ and at a reasonable price. I’m assuming when you get it out of the box and power up, all the knobs and pads respond to the software without having to spend ages programming midi info etc. Sorry to ask dumb questions on here…. I’m coming from a guitar background! Thanks for your patience.

ParticipantGreat feedback, I’ll check out the DDJ-SX.
Size, ahem, might be a factor in that I’m mostly playing in smaller venues rather than clubs, but I don’t want to sacrifice any functionality between the controller and software.
Chuck, I had a copy of Traktor and must say Cross seems way easier to use. (Even bought a Traktor tutorial from Olav Bososki from MacProVideo…. not very good, even though his tutorials on mixing and producing house in Logic9 are excellent)
Which reminds me, I’ve been thinking of taking Phil’s tutorial. I”m sure it’s very good, as he’s an outstanding teacher, but I”m wondering if what he’s showing will be fairly easy to follow using Cross DJ if he’s demoing techniques in Serato or Traktor or Virtual DJ?James Dentith
ParticipantThanks Chuck, that’s very helpful. I’ll check out the Denon controllers for sure.

ParticipantHi djrizki, thanks for the welcome and the funny comment!
I’m mostly jamming with beats using very processed guitar, no overdrive, and rhythmic loops rather than (hopefully) looking like a prat doing rock licks and tapping a-la-Van Halen. More like Steve Hillage on vallium!Oddly enough, I’ve considered just pre-recording my guitar parts and loading them into the samplers in Cross DJ, so I don’t have to ‘pose’ with a guitar and take up more space at the gig, but there is something sonically more interesting about minimal melodies and rhythms played live over a 5min track…. any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for the quick reply Terry, especially as I spent over an hour trying to fathom my way around the Mixvibes forum to post the same question! I’ll have to save my pennies for a laptop. Cheers!
