I think your wall of sound analogy is excellent, i think thats how ive viewed it all along and it quite simply overwhelmed me, i know that some people said that I should just buy the digital version but that to me seems a waste of money when i can i do super high quality rips of it myself. Nevertheless i will set a target of 5-10 records a week.

Thanks vinny…makes sense to rip what i would
    want to actually play first.

My suggestion would be to kinda of import the vinyl in order or importance or start with whatever you would actually play first.

I sadly cant get spotify where i live yet so i tend to firstly listen to online radio shows and get playlists etc. Then hit youtube for further info etc. I try and keep my listening quite focused on maybe no more than 3-4 djs becuase quite frankly i cant keep up with all the new and old music being released! I also visit my favourite 4-5 record shops online, they are mainly vinyl sellers except juno download/beatport etc but if i like something then i check to see if its available digitally, if not and im totally in love with it i will buy the vinyl, but it would have to be really special!

Im both excited and fearful, fearful of leaving my beloved vinyl behind and abandoning all of my favourite record shops and characters, there is a human face to the decline of vinyl. HOWEVER im excited about – having almost total control over my collection, especially looping and effects over my rare disco, jazz and funk collection and using those loops alongside my house and drum and bass collection. The portability of it all also means my wife will stop hassling me about lack of space for my collection.

much appreciated for the advice, im very tempted but im afraid of Traktor it all seems so ‘technical’, i would love to use serato but i cant find a controller within my bugdet that includes all the analouge ins and outs that i need. On the flip side as im a software virgin i guess i shouldnt be bothered about which program i start with , although as phil said recently that one should choose software first then controller second. The RELOOP T2/4 look great and i am tempted to wait for the review and also the stanton djc.4….. we shall see….thanks again for the informed advice.

So many amazing replies to my thread that the only thing left to say is that im going to keep keepin on! Just ordered some new monitors, a new laptop and got a heavy duty DJ table made for the spare room!!!!! The controller is on its way too!

Long live dj dads, and yes a follow up article would be great Phil.

With regards to your question, i personally would go for the RELOOP DJ3 because of analogue inputs and booth out, although I think the MC3000 has one as i still occasionally play vinyl as well as digital. The MC 3000 is pure digital locking you in so to speak. Can any of you guys tell me if the jogwheels and tempo sliders on the RELOOP DJ 2 ME are any good? Im thinking about that and the RELOOP DJ3 ME although I dont use 4 decks.

    Hi Todd

Wow thanks for sharing such an emotive and heartfelt subject, its a very humbling story, im really happy you managed to pull through such a difficult experience. Its great to see that your back into the djing again, your absolutely right about realising what you enjoy in life and pursuing it regardless of lifes other ‘distractions’ and challenges. This give me much hope and inspiration for the future. Ive even ordered my new kit, a better laptop, new audio speakers and a new controller!!! Hehe….after DDJT does a review of the Stanton DJC.4….

    thanks for the reply vinny,

i think the amount of time djing is not so important…how to sustain it is what my biggest problem is on a practical level especially when you arent a proffessional becuase im not doing it for a living. Commiting to a monthly mix at the least is a great idea and i will be doing that as soon as i upgrade my kit in the coming few weeks.

sorry just noticed that it requires no laptop!!! Woah, thats quite a leap for me, it took me a while to get usedusing a laptop after vinyl and now losing the laptop! I have to think about that! Im a bit scared of the putting all the eggs into one basket if you know what I mean.
