ParticipantThis is one of the many new challenges ive aşlo experienced since switching over from vinyl, all of the above tips are great such as cue points etc but in all honesty its a smaller leaner more stricter musical listening/buying policy. Also if your not djing proffesionally its even more difficult because you only have yourself as a critic. İ have thousands of LP,s in addition to my newly aquired digital tracks over the last 2 years, about 200 or so which is very little. Maybe 1-2 new tracks per week on average. İ also dip into my vast vinyl collection once in a while, and add one of those in occasionally. But İ try and keep my dj crate as lean as possible, İ also make sure to give myself plenty of listening time throughout the week whenever possible. İ still believe track knowlegde and selection is more important than mixing so İ try to divide my time accordingly. But thats just me.

ParticipantCheers for that, my problem has been ripping cd,s that were not tagged beforehand thus everything comes up as unknown in traktor etc. İ try not to convert from CD quality to MP3 but may start doing in the future. İ havnt been able to rename or ‘tag’ my tracks in traktor and i ssume its becuase its only LE 2 at the mo until i get an upgrade. Thnks for your time….

ParticipantMy answer is no…its always been this way…the underground will always be the underground and the mainstream will be the mainstream…and at times they overlap……this should be accepted as we are and dance music is part of a capitalist system that relies on creativity and cross-fertilization, sometimes results are bad and sometimes they are great, its about longevity, the ‘underground’ has endured and it will continue to do so…..

ParticipantAfter many years of djing it still suprises me to hear the same records sounding so different because of venue changes and the energy one gets from the crowd at that time and space. İn other words records you think will work dont and vice versa. İve also learnt how to pace myself or should i say not get into the music too deeply so to speak as this used to be so distracting for me that i would lose concentration.

Participantlooking forward to it…..

ParticipantIm glad my post got such a positive reaction, i think its even more inspiring when i hear guys like you that have got kids as well that somehow find the time to squeeze it all in. Its really great to hear, it was phils initial piece that got me to make the post in the first place. When i told a few of my friends that i was going to order a brand new MIDI controller and a new laptop at my age, all ex vinyl djs who have all given up now thought i was mad. But i would say going digital for me (I now have a RELOOP DJ3 ME and i love it, amazing controller) has been one of the best things ive done for myself for years. Its rekindled my love for music after giving up on vinyl due to cost. I live on an island in the med meaning that the shipping costs alone are more than double sometimes quadruple the price of a single record. Thats before insurance and tax! Its a brave new world and EVERYONE is invited, including the DADS!

Participantfirstly thanks for replying. Much appreciated….i think youve partly answered my question… the master track thats playing..after not touching the tempo slider for over 30 seconds or more the tempo freezes…i have to move the slider back to zero again….and then re adjust…it only freezes if i dont touch the slider for more than 30 seconds to a minute or more.
i will keep trying again…
How do İ turn off the tempo lock when loading new track as you mentined earlier..by the way im only currently using Traktor 2 LE..i only just got my new controller and its the first time ive used the software.

ParticipantAfter current firmware upgrade absolutely fine. I dont scratch so no
probs for me. 99% of all current controllers dont have
perfect jogs yet. Mapping and hardare not quite there yet.
in my opinion but for my style of djing its fine…for me reloop
For the price is a gem…like i said either controller is good.
Good luck….Jahit Halil
ParticipantThanks for the reply. After posting i also thought of that
Yes it makes sense. I have reloop dj3 with a high quality
soundcard. What im curious about is whether i shoul connect
With trs or rca…which is better?Jahit Halil
ParticipantThe S2 makes up for lack of build quality through super tight Traktor integration,so bear that in mind to, although the RELOOP is pretty sweeeet!!!!! with traktor
Jahit Halil
Participantwell the denon isnt really cheaper because you get more with the reloop, however i do agree that the denon is built great and is an excellent piece of kit, however its completely digital, and for me this was a dis-advantage as i still play vinyl as well as digital media. You need to think about the ‘future’, and how your set up might or might not develop. In terms of build quality they are both excellent.
Jahit Halil
ParticipantS2 has no through input…no analogue ins..no booth out
And the jogs are a secondary thought. It just isnt for me
If the denon mc3000 had analouge ins i would have bought
that..excellent kit…well built too.although i love my jockey 3. -
