    Good write up….

I agree with terry that there are different kinds of risks, in general though i do agree with you that djing has become more of a spectacle, as the scene has begun to generate more capital the core of what İT was about in the first place gets a bit lost. For example im no scratch dj, i love hip hop but i dont scratch, my style is eclectic playing everything from funk to techno for me taking a risk is playing something unexpected, or plain crazy who knows, but that too is not easy to do, ive had extra bookings just from playing one crazy track in the middle of a set for example or ive lost bookings for the same reason. DJing at weddings is also not easy because you have to excercise patience, control etc, so risk is relevant to the context, but YES i totally agree with you that as DJing becomes more and more popular then showmanship and spectacle come to the fore rather than skill risk and of course the music itself.

beatport is only commercialised if you dont dig, or if you dont know what your looking for. Listen to dj,s online radio etc etc and then use any site where the track is stocked. İ dont want to use itunes but to be honest alot of music i cant find anywhere else is only availabe on itunes.

İ was in the same boat, didnt initially enjoy it and then one day İ made some adjustments and now İ cant get enough of it. I have a reloop DJ 3 ME and to be honest the feel of it and the quality is awesome. İ can pull off proffessional mixes, however it takes some time to get used to the transition. İt took me a few weeks but now İ love it. İn fact İ prefer it to using vinyl and technics now!

Hi Phil, i think you may have slightly mis-understood, I always maually set gain but the problem is that the software or controller doesnt allow me to set the gain. The lowest gain setting or in other words peaks over zero around plus 4-6 in the red. İts really strange.

in reply to: How can I broaden my musical tastes? #1008291

İ ve come across this question a number of times now not only on this forum but others too, İ always think that you should start with the roots of the genre of music you currently listen to the most. Rap and hip hop is so heavily influenced by Funk,60,s 70,s soul, disco etc. Delve into the roots of the music you are passionate about and from there you will begin to broaden your musical tastes. Of course internet radio and all the other contemporary listening options are all well and good but where do you start. You should never change your musical taste just because some random club owner wants you to play music you know nothing about. İf you love hip Hop then begin with classic funk, soul and disco and scan any notes on samples used by the artists you love. Look up the musical influences of some of the artists you listen to, you may be amazed at what you find out. And yes use all of the online listening options mentioned above such as spotify and other online stations.

It has a switch on the back whlch l believe is a phono pre amp.
It also has a digital out not a usb..it looks like an rca input but a single one.
When flicking the switch to digital the signal becomes much
Louder. By the way i connect the turntable via phono rca inputs
Direct to my active speakers or of i wisj into my line in laptop.

Hi phil thanks for replying, ı understand that İ need a phono pre-amp, however my turntabe has a digital out, although i guess if i use that in addition to my laptop soundcard i will be converting the signal twice which may degrade the rip even further, but i think your advice about trusting your ears is important. I will give it a go.

wow good on ya mate, although ı wouldnt have sold the records, even though ı have now gone digital İ havnt been able to part wıth my vinyl which is also mainly funk soul disco etc. Who knows maybe one day İ will. But i believe its even more important than ever for someone with your knowlegde and experience to dj out more often. The first ‘raves’ i ever went to comprised of djs much much older than me blowing my mind with rare groove and disco and since then ive been buying records ever since and now digital. Good luck and may the funk always be with us!!!
