ParticipantNot a big festival guy at all, I much prefer smaller and more intimate clubs. However Toronto now holds a few worthwhile festivals.
1) Brrrrr (That was this past weekend, saw Moby (not very good), Justin Martin, Chus & Ceballos, Magda and Dubfire.)
2) Digital Dreams

ParticipantQuite enjoying this so far, 20min in!

ParticipantBasically if I tried to mashup any hip hop it would be anything I can find ontop of Still Dre, because I’m a product of the late 90s.
Edit: Serious thread hijack

ParticipantI swear reading that actually made it harder. I’ve found that its easiest to mix music you fully understand, I understand house, techno ect… I like hip hop, but I’ve never quite understood it if it makes sense. Not so much the lyrics but the feel of the music. Closest I’ve ever gotten to mixing hip hop are break beats, which isn’t close at all.

ParticipantAs much as I agree with this, I can’t count how many times basically the exact same topic has already been posted.

You know when a school bus shows up it’s going to be a serious jam.

ParticipantI hear ya man, I had waaaaaay too much spare time on my hands. Now I barely game at all, barely watch TV. Nice to do something productive isn’t it. Btw teach me how to mix hip hop, I really just can’t get a hold of it no matter how hard I try.

Then I was like maybe I should hold off on buying ableton a bit longer lol. There is so0 much too know but I guess thats part of the fun too
It’s as frustrating as it is fun. It’s annoying when you tell people you’re a dj and they’re thinking “oh yeah, what a joke, dude will never grow up” except they don’t know the amount of work involved to actually be GOOD.

I’m the same way I like to add to what I’m playing already and just layer. Brought it out once to dj at my friends new years party, I didnt use it as much as I like, so much going on then having to worry about potentially 8 additional loops playing. Def need some more practive with it. I am still no where being close to using it the way I want to but theres a light at the end of the tunnel! lol
Everytime I learn something new, I realize how little I know… f**k

Adelaide and Richmond are still mostly the mainstream clubs except many of them have closed down due to city council and such. Most of these buildings have/ are being torn down and turned into condos. A lot of the nightlife moved to King St and farther west. I don’t think El Macambo will ever close, it’s a dump really but there’s so much history. Biggest club in the former clubland now would be Uniun (former Devil’s Martini) opened by INK (owns Guvernment, Cube and now Sound Academy/ docks) where big name djs of varying genres play.

ParticipantLiving in the biggest city in Canada, Toronto.
Currently don’t get many gigs but I am hoping to break into the late night party scene here.
We’re a very tech house city but I’d love to bring out a bit more techno.J-Zed

That’s proper warehouse style, only hope I can do a show like that sometime in my life. Open up with faster dark tech house and work into techno, harder/ dark prog and some psy trance. *keeps dreaming* Toronto fell apart for that, there used to be lots of warehouse parties around here but pretty much faded out as the city put a foot on anything fun. All that’s left are illegal warehouse parties full of 15 year old kandi kids.

I still haven’t tried, my F1 has been almost entirely unused in the many months I’ve had it. I just wanna make tons of short loops on my own and use them to layer onto full tracks I’m already playing. I’m not huge on changing people’s work so much as to adding onto them. Steve Lawler apparently does that a lot, that guy is a late night master.
