I can’t stand the music he plays, but good for him. Dude just happened to luck out and is now living the life. Hopefully he’s smart enough not to blow all his money

After reading this, I began to go through all my music and listen to tracks I haven’t heard in a while or just skipped over while I was trying to create a decent sized music database. It was a lot of help! I got rid of maybe 30 tracks I just didn’t like at all and sorted all the tracks I forgot about and did like!

Come a rainy day, I’m gonna lock myself in my room and go through EVERY track I have and re-organize all of it. Is it possible to be a digital DJ without being incredibly OCD? Starting to doubt it.

    Check out this thread; http://www.digitaldjtips.com/forum/threads/lets-all-like-each-others-facebook-fan-page-post-your-links-here.2993/

A bunch of us have already posted our FB pages and were all sharing likes, I’ve gotten around 15 likes from that thread alone. The more we share, the more we learn and the better we’ll all get!

I know a guy who is 19 and spins in a 24 hour after hours club here in Toronto, age shouldn’t be an issue… Except for the fact America has this silly 21+ drinking rule which could change things.

So guys, tell me… What’s the scene like out west when it comes to more underground house and tech? I’m from Toronto where it’s always been pretty big, but Calgary has always struck me as a cowboy hat city. I always thought Vancouver would be pretty good though, high population city on the coast sounds like the right setup.

I’m a fan of the effects, though they have to be used properly. Proper timing and effect selection on buildups, track mixes and breaks can add so much to a set. I never use the effects so much that they actually take over the track playing. Also, I can’t stand when djs overuse the filter and keep interrupting the beat, it’s really annoying to dance and listen to.

    This is way too hard….

Mark Knight, Wolfgang Gartner – Conscindo
    Filthy Rich – Revival
Korablove – The Mope (Gennaro Mastrantonio Remix)
    Maetrik – Crush On Me
    Max Cooper – Harmonisch Serie

    Thing is, it always changes

The only CDJs I’d actually buy for home are the 2000s, and those are a hell of a lot more than an S4 AND a new laptop.

I’m surprised the bouncers kicked everyone, especially how hand in hand what they were doing goes with alcohol. My first gig was really similar except they just let it slide as long as they kept under control. But hey, as long as whatever you did worked (which it clearly did) is all that matters. There’s plenty of parties always waiting to happen!

Bought my MBP a few months back, 2.2ghz i7, 4gb ram. Runs like a charm, bought it refurbished and saved approximately $200 as well.

Prior to that I ran Traktor 2 on my desktop which is faster than my Mac but didn’t run nearly as well. Mac is the way to go for Traktor imo.

Right now I just DJ, I spent a lot of time just focusing on trying to perfect mixing. When I’m playing live I just stick to DJing. On the weekend I purchased the NI F1, so I’m slowly moving towards controllerism, but it’s a long journey and I wont’ be bringing the F1 to do anything other than simple acapella samples any time soon. Listening to a djing doing “live remixes” and ruining everything is just awful.

I used to think it was lame when people said it, but music really is the best drug.
DJing has taken over my life, I RARELY miss a day of playing. It’s all I think about at work and I play at home until my back hurts too much to play anymore. Damn being tall sucks for DJing.

For me, I spend a lot of time in my car (about 2 hours a day during the week) so I listen to all my new music in there. Pretty good sound system too so I hear the full range of the track. Doing this every single day, I get really familiar with my tunes really quickly.

I also get to listen to music at work too, even if I’m not focusing on it I eventually get really familiar with the tracks. I don’t play with cue points in my traktor yet, I just have a knack for really remembering tracks. If only I had the same memory back in school.

You play exactly what you want to play, pre-programmed or not (as long as it’s something appropriate for a gallery exhibit, of course), and don’t have to deal with requests and the other headaches you get when you’re playing in a club. My set was four solid hours of nothing but deep and tech house and I loved every second of it. You don’t have hundreds of fans going mental and chanting your name and Jesus poses are typically kept to a minimum but, to me, the benefits completely outweighed the costs.

That sounds like a fun gig, you can play almost anything you want that’s more mellow and it’s a great way to meet people too. Never thought of that, I’m totally looking into it now.
