Yaka’s got it right, just give yourself a new project. What area of DJing are you not very good in? Do that, even if it’s not something that really suits your style the more you know the better. DJ blocks are a pain though, especially when you spend most hours staring at a wall and not a crowd of people.

Canadian radio is pretty awful as well, basically the same as American…

However here in Toronto there are some good late night stations, one station has a live broadcast from Comfort Zone (Canada’s ultimate after hours) once a week. There’s a few other ones but overall I pay no attention to anything on the radio or tv.

What I play most often is a mix of house, tech house, minimal and techno usually with a darker or tribal feel to it. Producers like Carlo Lio, Filthy Rich, Dj Chus, Santos, Alex Dolby ect…

Other times I like to play some drum & bass, tech trance and psy trance too.

Save them and don’t even listen back to them to begin with, that way though if they’re all recorded then whenever you absolutely nail one you can show it off.

This, because you never know when a mess around set turns out amazing.

It’s an amazing site, saw it on another forum a few days ago! I’ve already gotten a few things off there, what an amazing find I wish I shared it here first! 😛

    I agree and disagree…

While it’s great that we now have nearly unlimited resources to learn anything, it also did create teh problem where people are unwilling to figure things out by using a bit of problem solving and common sense. Following Terry’s posts, I think we’ll end up with more followers than ever as information is almost too easy to obtain which shuts down our ability to be creative. This is in regards to DJing and almost everything else. With the lack of creativity in many people I think those who go the extra step to figure things out themselves or add their own spin to the information they did read will be able to seperate themselves from the pack more than ever.

No you’re not the only one and it’s completely natural. You’re recording everything you do, so you start thinking about the mistakes you can make. When it comes to recording a mix I don’t think it’s possible to be flawless, even the best make mistakes.

For me personally, when it’s time to post a new mix online I’ll start recording every session I have over a week until I have a set I really like. Just play around and remember you can always record another mix, have fun!

So I’m on the same boat as you: I want to have fun playing my tunes. My choices in Sacramento are a small bar/club downtown that’s relatively new and hip (and I would love to play there), a pizza place (no joke), and the token gay club that has always played EDM music anyways.

I’d take a gig at the gay club any day for a few reasons. They’re a good crowd, they both know and LOVE EDM. They make for good and often loyal fans and lastly as a straight DJ you can get pretty much any girl there. JUST saying.

Just an iPod. Does the box for my S4 count? I’m really tall and I like to raise my equipment as much as I can.

They all did a little bit. Ronnie and Mike had a bunch of garbage nutritional supplements, JWOW did a lot of modelling and TNA wrestling stuff I believe, though now she looks like an alien and it creeps me out.

To be honest, the only person I think who is going to be successful in life from that show is Vinnie. He’s the only one with a good head on his shoulders, with a proper education and he was also the youngest.

    What’s so bad with beatport?

There is tons of music on there both very popular and almost unheard of. It just takes some time and some digging but it’s all there. Listen to sets by djs you enjoy, get a tracklist and then most of what you can find is on BP. Other than that, if you wanna get more into local scenes with producers who aren’t on BP you might have to contact their label or the producers themselves.

    There’s always a way!

Tin can sounding snare? That’s St. Anger for sure, not only does that album lack production but it’s just awful altogether. The album …And Justice For All also lacks on good production as the bass is practically non existent. But damn if it wasn’t amazing anyways. It’s funny how the biggest names can still fall victim to lousy production.

That’s the difference between legends and flavors of the moment. I always pull up names like Carl Cox and PvD in how they lasted the test of time and still pack rooms. They produce new stuff, even change/evolve in their sounds. Pauly D can claim he’s doing that…but all the world will see are fist-pumping, a blowout haircut, and tattoos.

Good for him and others who milk the moment and build a fortune. I agree I hope he spends his money wisely…as opposed to being found in 10-20 years living in a trailer park, flat broke.

I always end up hoping that people who started fame off by fluke actually end up doing well. I think it would be cool if Pauly eventually graduated away from the commercial cheese and became a serious producer – dj. Unfortunately, things like this rarely happens. Fame is overpowering.
