I also think that you would have a lot more success making genre specific logo’s… eg. it’s going to be easier to sell something that says “dubstep” or “drum n bass” in an interesting font as that is more accessible to a larger audience, not just noob dj’s. You could even have a play on words and say “dumbstep” or something that would appeal to fans with a sense of humor or someone who hates it. But do try to lay off the lame sayings.

Good ideas, something to think about.

What I expect when buying a Shirt… or whatever Appearal is 2 Things:
1. It has to be innovative and original
2. I am willing to pay more if the shirt is good quality and good fabric

Point 1 can vary from unusual basic colors, designs that you would not expect and do NOT include the 200 sadest DJ quotes (Jukebox, Save my life,…) I give you the point that most Shops are generic in that way and this is why only fanboys and no real DJ shops there. Possibly even more revenue for you, but you asked in the wrong forum for this :p
If you can come up with a new and innovative design and have a spot where I can put my DJ name on even better. But it is the design that has to be innovative and new. Think outside the box and not the usual turntables, headphones etc. crap.

Point 2 is simple. I earn money with DJing so I am willing to pay more for gear that helps me. Now I dont know where people live, but DJing can be intense, you can have a venue that is really hot from the usual climate controlled cold environments etc. I work for my money, aka I do a lot of things behind the booth that can (but must not) make me sweaty. Now if you have good basic materials this will help me and be more comfy during a long night.
Also go with the trend of the music genre, some genres love fluffy and oversized clothing, not basic fit shirts. Some like slim fits, some like glittering materials or strange basic coloring. Do NOT use the usual generic American Appeal, Fruit of the Loom,… whatever shirts… be innovative and new.

Terry, i think you’ve misunderstood me, they’d be little point in making a clear copy of a design you like because 1. Why would you buy a knock off and 2. Just because you like it doesn’t mean anyone else does. I was more interested in a general range. Is it DMC style shirts you’d prefer? Or maybe the Technics designs that are out there or maybe even what DJ Mag are doing or maybe designs that so are subtle you wouldn’t know they were DJ/Music related. I don’t want a specific shirt that is great, but more of an idea of the type of designs you feel are missing. What to you is an innovative design, especially as you feel the usual turntables and headphone stuff is already well covered at this point.

Whilst we do sell all our products on American Apparel, they are but one of many different types of shirt available on the site, theres tight fitting, lose, baggy, long sleeve, short sleeve etc etc. But I understand your point on different types of materials though and maybe this is something we’ll look into in the future when adding new products.

Thanks for the feedback guys, i’ll try and answer a few comments.
you need to show examples of the garments fitting, It was only through clicking on a random link that I could see you print on american apparel t-shirts, and the only reason I clicked on it was to provide feedback so most probably wouldn’t bother and that might cost you a sale.

I also think you should show only 16 – 20 designs from your latest range as there is a clear difference in the quality of your designs so these should be in their own legacy category, you could say something like “check out our older designs – we would be happy to print these on request” because honestly if I were looking I wouldn’t go past the third page.

There is not much point in having guys and girls t-shirts, hoodies etc… as all of the designs are duplicated, although it does look better having more content categories on your web page but you need to change the content of the pages eg using a header with models wearing the hoodies on the hoodie page, and models wearing the t-shirts on the t-shirt page and try to create a girls and guys range that are more gender focused with some crossover unisex designs.

Finally you need to talk about the print quality and the expected longevity of the image, if you use the same paint or printing techniques as a major brand say it so people can have some faith in your product. The biggest problems with buying clothes online is the t-shirt is not pre-shrunk and shrinks after the first wash, or the image fades and starts peeling after 3 or 4 washes. For these reasons I no longer buy stuff online unless it is recommended from a reliable source…

Hope that helps ;)
Some great points there and i think everything you mentioned will be looked at, especially about mentioning quality and showing models more. We are creating some more female related designs, but over the years we’ve realised that even guys or girls who want them in guys clothing buy them so we try not to limit what people can buy.
There are a handful of nice designs but the majority of them I wouldn’t want to be seen in. I’m not sure if you are marketing to DJs or wannabe “clubbers” cause I feel the latter is who would be buying and wearing these. I can get similar designs from Walmart…for less. A CDJ with paint splashes or vine leaves is a bit too cheesy or “teen”.
You definitely need a good selection of officially branded products. Have a bigger and better selection than other websites and you would do well.
OK enough about what I don’t like. I do like that you offer American Apparel. The problem with a lot of similar clothing concepts is the fit of the shirt. I want a nice fitted shirt not a baggy, chunky sleeved thing.
I stumbled on your website when I was on the hunt for some nice DJ related clothing (think fitted Technics logo only t-shirt – what would sell far better in my opinion). Theres a whole bunch of similar websites selling similar designs so nothing about this one jumped our nor made me want to purchase.

Don’t worry about being harsh, your post was constructive and thats whats important. I guess we try to market to a main stream crowd, so DJs and clubbers or wanabe DJs. Do you have any examples of designs from other companies you think are better/more for DJs? Want to get an idea of the types of designs you feel we are currently missing and would be interested in buying. As for official brands, we currently only stock stuff thats exclusive to us like the Pioneer and Stanton stuff. You can get Technics shirts anywhere and probably at better prices (I’ve seen them for £5 in Camden market), thats why we don’t currently stock them but maybe its something worth looking into more.
I am sorry and have to agree. Most designs are generic or taken from free (or some not free) clipart’s and the text on the text only shirts is not even an innovative font… You can easily make any of those shirts yourself for 10 bucks or less.
Again would you like to show us some designs elsewhere that you feel you’d buy if they were on our site?
