there is no beat grid in serato…it has its own version of beat gridding which shows up as little ticks. There is no beat grid and there is no sync from what i know…but i havent spent more than an hour or 2 on serato. There may be a sync/beatgrid in ITCH…

you say the HDJ2000 broke? where abouts did they break? I have a hard time believing that they broke without mistreatment. As far as i know the only 2 headphones with a metal construction are the HDJ2000 and the Beats pro…and we all know the beats pro are not DJ headphones…too much bass and ZERO credibility wearing them.

You say that the HDJ1000 were low quality yet when they were new they were considered one of the best DJ headphones on the market and are still rocked by some huge names today, the biggest gripe on the HDJ1000 was the swivel joint which was replaced by the HDJ2000 metal design.

Headphones are a total personal preference to some extent. Personally i find a flat response is optimal for proper monitoring. I have heard amazing things about the DJ1 pros but have never had personal experience with them. IMO if you are going for the shoulder stance and want a headphone to last then the HDJ2000 is the best pick due to the metal construction.

I got the HDJ2000 for an amazing deal of 150 bucks and i am totally impressed. Good flat response with enough bass.
i upgraded from the HDJ1000 and totally would recommend the 2k’s. The only problem is their price point. I dont think i would spend 350 for them but for what i got them for i am super happy

Scratching on a controller is going to be a big change as it is a total different feel. As well you will probably want to invest in a Innofader as the basic Xfader on most controllers will not stand up to a beating. As well it also depends on what Software you are going to use.

    You need to ask yourself
    a. What software am i going to be using Serato, VDJ, Traktor
    b. how much space do i have to setup my equipment
    c. Budget

Serato – Hiphop DJs and for people who want to keep Djing EDM simple
Traktor – Bridging the gap between producing and DJing

As well Serato ITCH which is seratos version of Traktor Pro 2 is imo not nearly as good as TP2. TP2 has way more options.
If you are going strickly for a controllerist perspective then i highly reccomend going to Traktor over ITCH.

Just to add to this…the word DJ isnt what it used to be, now a days in order for you to be a mainstream DJ you usually area already producing your own music…and lets face it…producing Hip Hop beats is about as boring as watching paint dry compared to producing EDM

The Quality of Hip Hop/Rap has gone right down the shitter. REAL Hiphop is about the lyrics…now a days its an artist rapping the same 5 words over an EDM beat. As well Hip Hop is very 1 dimensional compared to EDM.

D-Jam hit in on the button. People who like to dance in the clubs want to hear different music, thats why the world of remixing and mashups have become so popular. Yes we can dance to a hip hop beat, but the energy level is know where the same as most EDM music, and lets face it…when was the last REAL memorable HipHop song. to me its Forgot about Dre and that was 2000

I still love going to real hip hop shows where there are actual rappers. BUT IMO unless its like a DMC comp or good turntablists HipHop DJs are dying off quick.

I never used the Mixtrack pro, i got a 2nd hand Mixtrack and bought a Traktor Audio card and Traktor LE came for free.
IMO switch to Traktor man…way better DJ software. I started with VDJ but quickly made the switch to traktor and never looked back.

The Native instruments site has a free 30 day trial of Traktor Pro 2…believe me once you try it you will never go back to VDJ.

My only gripe is that for a beginner learning to beatmatch on it is slightly difficult due to short pitch faders. I don’t know how this compares to the other models you listed, but maybe someone else can comment on that.

If you are using Traktor, you can adjust the sensitivity of the pitch faders so its easier to beatmatch with.

The MixtrackPro is a great controller, its the controller i first used and was a great learning tool. I would say the default mapping of the controller really does suckfor TP2. Regarding the plastic construction, it is super durable…unless you take a sledge hammer to it lol.

I have never played around with the 3 systems you have describe but from what i know Stanton isnt that great, and i would never buy a M-Audio midi controller but thats just cuz i have had bad experiences from them.

The Hercules DJ console i have heard lots of good things about.

    N e Ways thats my 2 cents
