Negative…Traktor has keylock on sample decks, Platter control allowing scratching of set samples. As well applying effects to each specific sample. With the release of the new Traktor software coming up will allow sample banks to load multiple samples. As well with Traktor you have the ability to map multiple effects and control amounts with 1 controller ie encoder/platter. The control of Timecode in VDJ is pretty terrible vs Traktor.
As well most of the effects in VDJ sound pretty terrible vs Traktor…This is a well known fact.
I am in the Traktor camp obviously by my statement…I started off with VDJ…but after 1 year had enough.
I am curious…what are the “do more” that traktor cannot do? I have not used VDJ in a long time and am very interested in this.

ParticipantI started off with the Numark Mixtrack Pro and since i did not have any other controller thought it was awesome. Since then i have upped my setup quite a bit. I am a bit of a gearslut BUT need to make sure my gear is road worthy for gigs. With that said. Here are my 2 cents:
Beatmatching with VDJ vs Traktor vs Serato is all the same. Beatmatching is something that should always be done with ear. No matter how good the software is, nothing will beat your ears for perfect matching. The style of music you plan on DJing also is a huge factor in what software you are going to use. VDJ is known as the underdog between Traktor and Serato, but is still a vary usable software. Personally as I spin strickly EDM cuz its what i love, Traktor is the obvious choice for me. Traktor has a plethora of abilities that VDJ and Serato is still trying to catch up to but they are all really good…just designed for different things in mind.
Hardware:
If you are going with Traktor the S4 and the S2 are hands down the best controllers to use. Why? GREAT integration with the traktor software, and both the S2 and the S4 come with full pro versions of Traktor. These are the ONLY controllers that come with a FULL version of Traktor Pro. This has to come into play when considering which controller to buy. I personally love the MC3000 and was planning on picking one up….until i saw the release for the DJTT VCI controller.
Since you are just starting up i would suggest you do not spend a boat load of money on gear and just get the basics, who knows in 2 months u may end up hating it and then hitting yourself for spending a ton of money on stuff you never use anymore. With proper mapping you can make the Mixtrack Pro do anything you want.Hee Won Jung
ParticipantMAKE SURE! you create duplicate folder for your music. Serato tags your songs differently than traktor and can cause a lot oh headaches. Keep 1 Library for Serato and a duplicate for Traktor. I learned this the hard way.

His set was so bad that he cleared the dance floor twice and let the music hit dead air many times!!! “Ohhh wooops I forgot to play another song, la de da here we go i was just playing house now i am playing metal” He was so bad that the opening DJ and I begged him to leave, we offered him $300 to get up and leave. The club owners didn’t care, “Oh well look how many people he brought into the club, its best that he stays”….let the “famous” people sit around and drink dont let them work, if they are drinking they will still bring in people but they will also spend cash like no tomorrow. Let the people who put music first in their life be DJs not some “Famous TV Star” wreck your club…..the idiot also spilled beer all over 2 brand new CDJs never even used, I had hooked them up and everything…….”Oh well opps i spilled my beer i have to get a new one”
This always happens…Pauly D is actually spinning in my town in a few weeks and thats EXACTLY how i feel about him. He cant mix for shit, looks like a ooompa loompa on steroids and totally a waste of space. HOWEVER, he will pack the club no matter where he goes because he is famous. This is what club owners want…club owners dont care how you pack the club, as long as its packed because they make more money. Club owners arnt like us DJs…where we spin music because we love it and want to express ourselves in our mixes. Our mixes are like a story of who we are and the musical journey we share with the people who dance. Club owners are just there for the money…so are we…but to them its money first and then whatever else. For myself its about the music then the money.
I am rather fortunate that the city i live in has so much diversity in music that i can play the music i want to play and crowds come out to Rock out and dance their asses off. In all honesty I would rather be just a straight Bedroom DJ than have to go out and spin music that i dont love.

ParticipantFor the amount of money the DDM4000 is an amazing piece of hardware. stand alone mixer and a midi controller all in one.
Great for a beginner DJ.http://www.prodjforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6438
Now is it for what you want to do? Probably not. From the sounds of things going with an all in 1 solution is better off for you.
I suggest first off trying out Traktor. You can get a 30 day trial free of Traktor Pro 2 @ the native instruments website. IMO it is the best solution espically if you are planning on using NI Maschine.
For Controllers, The MixtrackPro is THE best budget controller on the market as far as usability vs price point.
Jogwheels are something that a lot of people require…I would fit into that catagory, but i suggest going and trying some other controllers out there and seeing what suites your style of play.
I have done gigs without Jogs using 2 X1s and mixer with Traktor. No Jog wheels NO problem…i just had to change my workflow and use one of the knobs on my X1 to nudge my tracks.Having a mindset of “I NEED THIS” or “I NEED THAT” to play properly will limit the creative abilities you restrict upon yourself.

I tend to disagree with this statement. I agree its all music, but EDM is its own genre of music. If i listen to Trance…chances are i may not be into Dubstep. This would be like talking to someone who likes Nickleback and calling them a Metal Band. Or saying Pantera is Rock music.

ParticipantHouse music is already mainstream, With artists like David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Tiesto, Rusko making tracks with pop/rap artists. With that said there is always going to be an “undergound” scene in the EDM world. Most of the places i goto and DJ at is mostly House music…Electro/Breaks/Drum-Dub, and not one of the DJs in there would be caught dead spinning a Guetta track or Benassi. With the majority of us we consider this music as Club “Cheese”, stuff thats great for the masses but not really catering to the EDM people. Music will always progress…90s was the Powerchord bands, early 2000 Hiphop and Pop became the rage…and now its House music.

ParticipantIt sounds like to me you want a pair of headphones which are over the ear not on the ear like the HD-25 and the Beats Pro.
I have been using the Pioneer HDJ2000 for about a year and a 1/2 now and i love them. SUPER comfortable and can listen to them for hours, solid construction swivel joints are a magnesium alloy. There have been reports of the headband breaking but i havent had that issue what so ever. The sound quality is also very good. I Find the headphones do not color the sound at all which is optimal for Producing and DJing, I dont use these for every day listening because i prefer In-ear monitors for every day use.
The only downside to these headphones is the Weight, they are on the heavier side for headphones.

ParticipantFor using Loops cue point juggling and such…i suggest using Traktor…best Software out there for that type of application. You can download a 30 day trial of Traktor Pro 2 from the Native Instruments website.
Within Traktor there is options to Quantize and snap your tracks so when u set a loop it automatically snaps it to the bpm of the song, and at the beginning of the beat making looping super easy.

Everyone having issues with heat 99% of the time its to do with your CPU heatsink vs Hard drive. Harddrives produce little to no heat. Often with older model laptops the air intake and outtake gets gunked up and less air is able to flow through your laptop to dissapate the heat from the heatsink. On every laptop there should be 2 sets of “grills” sometimes more…get a Can or 2 of Compressed air and blow the bejeezus out of them. Taking your laptop in to get cleaned is also not a bad idea, and relatively cheap. This can increase the lifespan of your laptop a great deal…by not cleaning…the overall temp of your cpu and laptop is higher and will cause your cpu/gpu to fail a lot faster.
SSD VS HD is more of a performace issue…and reliability…SSD have no moving parts and have the ability to access info much faster…overall increasing performance…they are supposedly more reliable…but im still on the fence about that one.

Participantis this the 8″ model?
Honestly Any sub will add that low end you are looking for until you can get a better one, and for 75 bucks you really cant go wrong.
Hee Won Jung
ParticipantWith the 5’s you will definately see the added benifit of getting the KRK Sub.
Even with my 8’s I REALLLLYYY love having the Sub. Is it worth the 300 bucks…well you could probably find something that would be the equivalent for less…but The sub looks so damn sexy with my 8s that i wouldnt have it any other way.
Mind you i got my 8s for 250 for the pair…and i got the sub for 200 all used but in mint condition
Hee Won Jung
ParticipantIMO if you are going to spend 300 bucks…Pick up to 2 KRK RP5s and add a sub in the future or a single KRK RP8 and add a second RP8 in the future. The difference in sound quality between a computer system and Studio monitors is just so vast that you cannot really compare imo.
I rocked a 50 person house party with 2 RP8s and a 10″ Sub and people were loving it.
Hee Won Jung
ParticipantLOL these look almost identical to the Rokits… with the infamous Yellow Cone.
IMO I would not Trust Beheringer for anything long term. The Quality of their products have gotten better…but still not up to the Standards of Mackie, Yamaha, M-Audio, and KRK…but that is just my opinion
