ParticipantIm pretty sure u cannot use it with Serato ITCH as far as i know as there is no midi mapping function with ITCH
However i am pretty sure you can use it with SSL as an effects/samples and what not.

ParticipantI have a little bias here…but if you are using Traktor…nothing Beats the Traktor Controller for it for straight integration.
But IMO the new VCI-400 EGE is probably THE best pro controller out on the market right now.
This is just my opinion…but the only true PRO DJ controllers out there right now are:
Denon MC6000/MC3000
NI S4/S2

ParticipantI think the Flyer needs more color to it. Make it flashy!! Even if the Event isnt Flashy you want something that will grab the eye and say wow that looks pretty cool.
As well you should list who the DJs or DJ is, any affliations the DJ has, what the drink specials are.
And having the name Battle At the Buzz to me sounds like it will be a DJ battle…not a music battle…I think something like
So and So( DJ name or Promo group) presents THE FLASHBACK! All the Greatest tunes, one hit wonders of the 80s and 90s!Or something along those lines.

ParticipantDJing is more of a roller coaster ride than anything when it comes to your song selection.
Don’t ever open with a big club banger…build your way up…DJing is more about Tension and Release. Now palying something that the crowd can relate to and is familar with is a great way to grab your crowd. then slowly start bringing up your energy levels…energy does not mean increase BPM. As well depending on your venue if you are playing mostly house music (electro/prog/funky/etc.) you dont ever want to increase your BPMs from 128 until around 11:30-12 when you can go up if you choose to (never go above 132s for house music)
As well it is good around every 20mins (4-5songs) to let a long breakdown play out…This will clear your dance floor a bit and get everyone to the bar…this will make your venue happy…Increased booze sales= happy venue = return shows.

bad call on this dude.
This is why: All ur friends by tickets for 15…someone starts trying to sell for 25 and sell a few off…now they find out that their friend bought a ticket off someone else for only 17 bucks in the same day….the people who bought them for 25 will be like WTF why the hell did i have to pay more?
Best thing to do is…make all your friends sell tickets for 20 bucks each…and give them a 5-4 dollar commision off each ticket. This way you regulate what the ticket sales are to everyone.
Remember to pay EVERYONE…including your DJs.

ParticipantOne of the biggest pieces of Advice i can give…is make sure it is a adult only party…no minors.
This will save you a huge headache, Im assuming this will be a EDM style of event. You have to plan for the worst case scenario. Young people tend to go overboard with drugs, and espically if u are serving booze you do not want any minors…
My friends threw 2 big parties…the first one all ages…and it ended up being a shit show with little 16 year olds passing out on too many substances and EMS/Police being called.
The 2nd one was no minors and it went without a problem.
Do not set your ticket/wristband prices until you have already figured out what your total costs are going to be and what the venue’s capacity is. You dont need to make a lot of money off of this…but you should at the bare least break even, after all costs have been figured out.
Depending on where you are located…find out ALL the laws and rules regarding the type of event you are throwing…
You are probably gonna be spending a decent chunk of change on this event…and the last thing you want is the cops shutting it down early because you failed to provide all the proper measures to throw an event of your scale.Promotion!!! This one is Huge…in the OP it stated that you will be the only one DJing? IMO that is a bad call…More DJs create Bigger Crowds…Have a lineup of 1 DJ every 1.5-2 Hours…This will expand on diversity and will get other followings into your show. This will not only make the event bigger, but you will create a larger following for you after the show.
Honestly…to do a Warehouse Party Properly as you are talking about with lazers and big sound booze and the whole works…you are looking at spending around $10,000.00 all in including renting of the venue, lights, sound, security, staff, promotion costs(Flyers, Tickets etc.)
Now depending on the size of the warehouse…you will have capacity at what? lets say capacity is 500…plan on only filling 2/3s of that capacity. and set your ticket/wristbands accordingly.

ParticipantLook around and there should be some mappings for the NS6 that can be used with Traktor….Traktor is great that way that you can use any midi controller with it.
I can honestly say having used SSL/SI that i know what u mean by getting bored…SSL/SI are just meant to replicate a Analogue system…Where as Traktor expands on that and has an abundance of additional things to do.
Using my S4 and Midi fighter i NEVER get bored…i am always doing something to make my sound…well sound better…tweaking eqs, using 4 decks to add in just simple percussions or a synth loop, and the Midifighter pro is great for working with effects

The problem i have right now is that Traktor overwrites my ID3 tags completely whenever I add a comment to either the comment1 or 2 field. Which basically means I have to start over and spend hours re-tagging the bloody things.
Apparently this is a common issue with Traktor. Why they won’t fix it, I have no idea. Thanks for your tip, though. Very helpful for future consideration.
Use the Comments2 for ur personal comments and keep Comments 1 for your key tagging.
It sounds a little retarded but i use Keyfinder, MediaMonkey, MP3Gain and Itunes before my music even Hits Traktor
MP3Gain first to normalize my tracks that seem quite
Then Keyfinder to Set key in comments Field with Camelot Wheel and Actual Note SignatureKeyfinder to write key into Comments field with camelot wheel and actual note signature
I use MM to tag all my stuff properly, Genre is for what the Main genre of the song is IE Electro, then i use the grouping to define the song, Swing, Funky, Bigroom, Banging, Synths, Vocal, Top40, ClubCheese etc.
I then upload all my properly tagged MP3s into Itunes and have all my smart playlists setup so i have like 14 playlists that are all Electro Genre, but then sorted by subgroup based on grouping.
The smart playlists are great because it auto adds songs that you have set based on certian fields. Then I just go into Traktor and goto my itunes library and add to collection.
Then within Traktor i will start actually building my sets that i am playing that week.

ParticipantGuys…dont use RE3…or MIK…use
http://www.ibrahimshaath.co.uk/keyfinder/
Its more accurate i have found for myself using my ear when doing mashups and stuff and u can have it write to Key, or Comments field…It doesnt write in Camelot wheel by itself but u can make it so it does write in the Camelot code if u program it.
I find its WAAYYY less buggy and way faster than RE3…and its free

ParticipantHey dude Check out
http://www.house-mixes.com/mixes/Latest/1/latinHas lots of great Latin House mixes and you can probably find some good tracks in here to add into your set for Cinco De Mayo…since it is a spanish holiday good to add in some latin house…it works its funky and people will love it.
Hee Won Jung
ParticipantCongrats on breaking your gig cherry…There is no other experience that can compare to having people recognize you for doing what you love to do!
Dont ever get discouraged…you will run into shows where you are playing the most banging set and it doesnt matter how you switch it up change genres sometimes the crowd just does not respond. At the end of the day…do it cuz you love to do it, and everything else will follow.Hee Won Jung

Oh, and yes, I have now encountered the annoying ‘I’m a DJ too!’ guy, who made sure to tell me repeatedly in his drunken haze over several hours that ‘its all about the crowd’ and ‘you should stick some sick drops in here, I know this stuff’. ¬¬LMAO!!!
I know exactly what u mean by this…I was spinning around 2 months ago and had some guy who said he was a DJ and his DJ name was DJ Ecstacy (yup never head that one before sooo original) and he was totally BLASTED out of his mind on well u guessed it Ecstacy…kept telling me to speed up the tempo and wanted to hear hardstyle and play this and play that…its like dude…you obviously arnt a DJ because if u were…you would know how annoying you are right now.
Hee Won Jung
ParticipantI would have to agree with the overall post.
It is all about the music and should never be about anything more than the music.
HOWEVER! Software is just like hardware…I started off with VDJ and now using Traktor i will never go back to VDJ…
gotta think of software in terms of hardware…they all do the same thing in the end…its just a matter of personal tastes. And yes you will potentially get flamed on for using certian pieces of hardware or software…thats just the industry.
But you gotta look beyond that…and if you cant…well thats a personal issue.
I used to get flamed when i first started gigging with my S4, now no one says anything because they know i can rock the house.

ParticipantWell from what little I know about the mc6000, it has the option between midi and aux because the 6000 can work as a standalone mixer. So if u don’t have ur laptop plugged in u can still use cdjs or turntables to play actual CDs or wax and use the 6000 to mix with. However I’m pretty sure it doesn’t support timecode.
Hee Won Jung
Participantim a little confused by what he means….
Are u wanting to use a turntable and use like Timecode with it? The denon Mc6000 does not support timecode signals.
and will have to use another Controller or get a NI Audio 4 or 6 or something. All of ur other questions are very specific to what software u are running…If it is traktor…any controller will work in addition to what you have as an FX controller as it is all just MIDI.
No Actual Turntable will work with the MC6000 as MC6000 doesnt support timecode as far as i know.
You can however use something like the new Denon SC3900 that is a controller/motorized platter table and use that as a controller, and have the turntable feel to it.
