ParticipantI Highly Reccomend that you do not play out with any new versions of DJing software.
Put the new version through its paces…test it, fuck with it, push it to its limits…then if no flaws play out with it.
The smallest changes in software can make it do weird things.Hee Won Jung
ParticipantI cannot DJ sober for the life of me…I have no problems mixing for fun and trying new stuff out sober…but for shows i have to be a bit drunk as Prude said…my nerves also get the better of me and i need to have a few drinks…but usually after the first Big banging drop im all good to go 😀

ParticipantMine was 40 bucks for an hour set as an opener 😀

ParticipantDont Rely and think that You HAVE to use songs that are in key…remember it is just a tool.
Mixing in Key is only important when you are mixing Synths, and Vocals. As well 1-5bpm difference will not really affect the key of the song.
Basslines also have a key signature but it is not as dominate and most people will not really notice if u are mixing 2 basslines that are out of key.
Harmonic mixing is really important if you are doing extended mixes…ie blending 2 tracks together for more than say 16-32 beats.
But also remember that its only really important if both tracks have synth lines or vocals layered with a Synth line in it.
so example…if track A is lets say 9A on the camelot wheel…and i think track B which is 5A would do really well next…ill just do a basic blend when there is 1 min left (thats usually where the outtro begins) and bring in track B…since track A has a basic drum/percussion usually the blend with track B will sound completely fine as there is no harmonics to clash with.
There are also times when 2 songs that totally shouldnt go together based on MIK or keyfinder…that actually go REALLY well.

ParticipantI think 5000 watts is still a little short for something of the scale.
We did a show @ a large venue…it was for DubFX and the venue capacity was 1400 and we had about 1200 in the place…and we used a total of 40,000 Watts….and that was a bit much…30k would have sufficed…
I think this largely also depends on the size and shape of the venue too. IMO anything over 300 ppls in a big room should have at LEAST 10k, as well the genre of music is a big factor too.

ParticipantMyself I will never play the same set twice. Ive posted this a few times but ill post it again.
The way I build my Sets is by doing showcase pieces…showcase pieces are anywhere from 2 to 5 songs that go REALLY well together…some may be just out right Banging and making everyone go nuts…while others may be a 2 song build when i want to change the energy in the room.I then string my showcases together using 1 or 2 tracks to get a proper flow going. I will use the same showcases and sometimes when new tracks come out i will interchange one of the songs in a 5 song showcase.
I then will read the room and dictate what showcase i want to put where. If the room has been going nuts for 20 minutes then i will let the energy die down so i can build it back up. This is where the TENSION and RELEASE aspects of DJing really shine.
IMO NEVER play the exact same set twice…change it up play it backwards cut it in 1/2 do something different. By playing the same exact set over and over its like making a Mix CD and just hitting play.

ParticipantNow i know this may not sound like good advice…but do whatever you have to before your set to not be nervous…if its a puff of the funny stuff or having a beer or 2 before your set then do it….just dont get wrecked lol.
I still to this day get nervous DJing…so i usually have a shot of jager and drink 2 beers, then im in my groove and im a lot more relaxed. A

Participantif you go within the preferences of key finder program there is a place where you can input the camelot wheel numbers to match the actual key of the song. just google Camelot wheel and you can find a picture that corrosponds to the key.
Once that is done there is a check box to add the custom tags to your tracks

Participantmake sure you pee before your set

ParticipantWe all have lives bro…and to sit down and listen to an hour long mix to critique or whatnot is not what we are here for…I am not by any means trying to insult or belittle you in anyway…but we are here to help you overcome the obstacles of digital DJing. If you want people to review your mixes…then do it at shows…get gigs…make demo CDs so people can listen to you after u have made them rock out all night long.
We are not your fans…we are not your peers…we are just here to help you.
Listening to a mix sitting down while reading is not the same as being in a club where you have had 1/2 dozen drinks and see some hot ass girl bouncing like no ones business.
You will only get better with Hands on experience…not in the bedroom in the CLUB! or any venue you can get.
We do not pay the cover to see your shows…we “internet” people are here to help with our knowledge…asking someone to spend a whole hour listening to your mix is selfish…it really is…would you sit down for a whole hour and intently listen to someone who you have never met, spoken with or even talked to’s Mix for one hour to constructively critique their mix?
So how can you ask the same of them?
I hope that i did not offend you with this post as it was not my intention but i know i can be rather harsh with my post sometimes 😛

Participantcheck in the controller settings under the S2 im pretty sure you can within there…if not you will have to map it yourself which is a big PITA

Participantto switch the sample buttons in each deck to access hot cues can be located within the Controller settings…goto the Settings, then goto S4, then there should be an option to change it from Auto to Cue 5-8
why would you want to use sfit +monitor cue instead of the little button that is there…2 buttons seems like more work than 1.
Hee Won Jung
ParticipantIt is possible to get it right because thats what i do everytime i have a show…Between the monitors, and my headphones i dont even need a VU meter…Using an S4 the meters suck balls…they are not even close to being accurate…so i rely on my trusty headphones to match loudness between tracks and I have never had a problem with songs coming in too quite or coming in too loud.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to disable autogain and limiter…If its just you playing for 2 hours or the entire night then it wont matter…but it was a rude awakening when i was doing a tag battle with a good friend of mine and everytime he brought in a track it just sounded better than off my S4…It was driving me nuts…and so i did some testing…The Limiter when you go clip will flatten the sound to not cause distortion…often the BASS is what will cause clipping and so Traktors auto limiter will bring it down…causing a flat sound.
By disabling the autogain and the limiter the sound reproduction is identical to on CDJs.
Sure you could listen to it IS EXACTLY what you should do…
