ParticipantStandard monitor PAs will not suffice for musical Genres like Dubstep and Drum and Bass…as most “monitors” cannot get the sub bass that makes Dubstep…well Dubstep.
What size is considered a small gig? How big of a room? House Party again what size? 20 people 100 people?
Like i said for 500 you can get 2 rokit 8s that will have enough low end plus good clarity for a small house party.
There are numerous threads regarding a PA system that can be found here:

ParticipantFor that amount u cannot get anything that you will like especially for Dubstep and DnB as a lot of those style of songs go really low in frequencys.
Honestly u need at LEAST 2k to build a basic PA system.
Until then either spend the 500 on some 8″ Cheap Studio Monitors like the Rokit 8s.

Participantyeah its super easy.
Just install and register all your hardware install the traktor pro LE edition, and then NI should send u an email within a week or so with a licence key to upgrade the LE edition to a Full Pro Edition. While you wait for the Serial Key you can goto their website and download the 30 day trial of the Full Tp2 while u wait for the key. Once u get the key just apply it to your Trial version and u are good to go.
I reccomend you download the Service center to get all the important updates as well as sound packs and remix deck packs.

ParticipantHaving Recently Jumped onto the Mac Bandwagon (got a new MBA for my GF so she gave me her 2 year old MBP)
I am starting to come around and really like the macs. Setting up DJing software is a lot easier and you dont really need to trouble shoot clicks and pops….as much…they are still there in some cases but its alot easier.
With that said…I still DJ with my Alienware m15x cuz the thing is so damn sexy…AND it has better construction…Yes i know the M15X weights like a tank but thats why i like it…Its really hard for you to smash a thick All Metal Anodized aircraft aluminum :D.
I did a Gig on Friday last week and when i pulled my laptop out…the guy was like “Dude you have an alienware…F*ck you man…thats all i gotta say F*ck You!” and walked away…

ParticipantMackie, Yamaha, Peavey, JBL…those are all reputable brands. Stay away from Mackie Subs thou…our company has had a lot of issues with Makie Subs

ParticipantThe idea is nice…but this is where the line between practical, vs hey look at what i can do has stepped over.
Its like the Midi BMX bike video i saw a while back. All of these are really cool ideas and yes they work…but there are much more practical things to use…

ParticipantKontrol S4 hands down no contest.
The only pioneer controller that is worth grabbing is the DDJ-SX….which mine should hopefully be arriving in the mail in the next week or 2 😀 currently I am using the S4…and the S4 rocks…best integration for Traktor.
IMO the Aero is a gimmick, and a bad gimmick at that.

ParticipantI personally use Resolume.
Resolume is a Video only meaning it wont do any kind of audio. I have it setup so my Midi clock is routed from Traktor to Resolume to keep everything in beatsync, and then i control both the Resolume and Traktor with my S4 and Midifighter.
It is a bit of a pain in the ass to setup but u can do quite a bit of stuff with it.

Participantgoogle Traktor bible. There are a ton of custom mappings for all sorts of different Midi Controllers.
I own a launch pad as well for producing and was able to use it for Traktor DJing as a host of different things.
I used mine as a midi fighter until i broke down and actually bought a midi fighter 😀

Participantthe biggest thing u want to look for when it comes to sound isolation is circumaural…i think thats the right term…where the headphones sit around the ear…not on the ear.

ParticipantIf you have a good internet subscription try using an online cloud service. I just got mine and it works out to 120 a year for unlimited data storage, on unlimited computers. For a single comp its only like 50 a month…now it does take a while to do it…but then you can just sync the folders u want backed up.
This isnt an endorsement of any kind…just passing on stuff that i find is useful to all of us :D/

Participantoh, i forgot the last thing to try…disable your wireless on the laptop…that did wonders for me 😀
Hee Won Jung
Participantimo i would still keep it upbeat…but background music…lounge…deep house, soul house, latin, light tech house…stuff that doesnt have too much of tension and release music.
