MemberI’m a big fan of NI gear, if you play with Traktor, get the S2!

MemberDon’t buy the Numark, technical specs are really bad. I know the technics, they’re nice. Pioneer also oke, but also check out the hdj-1000, thats their flagship dj-headphone. I never heard of the V-Moda’s before, so I’ve checked some specs. If the specs are true they’re really good. Only thing that I’ve read in reviews is that it produces a lot of bass. Thats maybe nice when you just use it for listening on your mp3 or phone, but for a dj/producer this isn’t a good thing. You have to search for an headphone that produces a honest sound. So it should play the music in the way that the artist has meant it to be.
For that reason I love Senheiser headphones. My advice is to go to a store ask for advice and just try on a hell lot of headphones so you can really notice the difference.

MemberS2 is a great choice, especially when you want to use Traktor. It’s all plug and play and you dont need other things like to buy extra software(upgrades) or soundcards.

MemberThats depends on the brand, can be two weeks, two months, six months, 3 years. If your question is: should I buy a Hercules of a S2, for sure buy an S2!

MemberPractice on your mixing and try to get some gigs! In the beginning it will cost you a lot of time, but in the end it will pay out. If there are no good gigs around, start organizing them yourself!

MemberConnect your speakers to the Master Output on the back of your BCD3000 and plug in your headphone on the front. If you play a track in deck A, turn the fader for deck B down and press the Cue B button. Turn up the pones volume and turn the phones mix al the way to the left. Now play deck B and there you go.

MemberJep Luke is the best example! I’m also thinking about buying a custom made pair. This is the Dutch/English website where Luke also bought his in ears: http://www.earproof.com/

MemberYou will indeed need an external soundcard, not only for recording but also for using Serato and Pro-Tools. I’m not an expert on this stuff, but I use an NI Audio 8 myself. The Audio 2 is NIs most simple soundcard, but is way more expensive then a Behringer (http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-audio-2/). If you want to record stuff more often it’s a good thing to invest in a proper soundcard that you can use for the next couple of years!

MemberMost off the time I stick to the same bpm as the track I started my set with. My build up in a set is based on the vibe of the tracks. Exactly what Matt says, know your tracks, edit tracks before you load them into Traktor. Something that you could do is making a comment on every track you import to Traktor. Dj Jean always gives his tracks a rating from 1 to 5. 1 is really groovy and laidback, 5 are the most aggressive and loud tracks.

MemberI prefer to have the music in Traktor on my laptop itself. I’m using one external HD for a complete back-up of my laptop via Time machine (Mac) and an external HD just for the complete music collection. I really recommend to get at least one external HD for back-ups!

MemberWoow, how did you record all of this? In Traktor? Check out preferences in Traktor, click ‘Mix recorder’ and then check ‘File’ – ‘Directory’ that should be the place where your recordings are located.
