Cool! I only don’t like the sound that comes in at the break (3.10) and stays in for the rest of the track. What software are you using? And keep on the good work!

That’s why it pisses us off to see a guy not even mixing who’s reached that goal. That’s why the “mainstream” DJ’s get a bad reputation, because of people like guetta. A lot of people don’t like deadmau5, they call him mainstream. He plays his shows live, he doesn’t let the fame go to his head, I have a lot of respect for the guy for those reasons. It’s unfortunate that mainstream is such a blanket term.

I dont’ know where to start…. UHmm, last year, Dancevalley (one of the biggest dance festivals), Steve Angello. Same thing happend as the whole Guetta story. Angello was the main stage closing act and played for 1,5 hour in front of 30 thousand people. Somebody made a video of the last 15 minutes and you could obviously see he wasn’t mixing. People got mad on forums like this one blablabla. The thing is, with shows of this size, it’s impossible to do it live. There isn’t one lightguy on this planet that can control, movingheads, lasers, fireworks, smoke, led and all that stuff at the same time. So thats why Angello recorded the last 25 minutes of his set. Months before the festival, he send it to the organization and they made a big show around it.

The point I want to make: at ‘mainstream’ events with ten thousand + capacity, 95% of the visitors doesn’t give a **** about or the dj is playing live, vinyl, or on cassette decks. They just want to hear the big hits and wanna be stunned by light effects and fireworks. That’s why they visite the festival. Is that wrong? Who are we to judge.

And I’m sorry, but Deadmau5 isn’t playing live on his big shows and Guetta doesn’t produce his own tracks.

Aight oke, well then theirs quiet a big difference compared to the situation down here. The biggest retailers aren’t selling Vestax whatsoever. I found one, that sells 4 types of Vestax controllers all against reduced prices… I’ll open a new topic about this, so we can compare the situation in different parts of the world.

Well I would never pay to play some where, but freebies aren’t a problem. Decide for yourself if it’s really worth it. I haven’t got a fixed price, it depends on the party. If a club/promoter is asking for 20 bucks at the door I’m sure they can pay me. If the party is free, I haven’t got a problem to play there for free. As long if there is a crowd that can be interesting for me and it’s a possible way of getting more gigs in the future, I’m in.

Well I’ve never seen somebody play with a Vestax midi controller. I only know Vestax as an turntable builder aimed for mainly hip-hop dj’s. Correct me if I’m wrong! Maybe it only looks that way from a European point of view, don’t know how it’s like in other parts of the world?

Yeah perfect, you’ve got yourself an new follower btw. Only thing that I’m not a fan of is linking al those platforms. Twitter has to be short and summarily. Facebook has to be more personal and more info, so dont let facebook automatically copy your tweets. Try to think through which info you want to send out via the different portals.

For instance you upload a new recording to soundcloud. Put it on facebook with a playlist and maybe a story behind the mix. And tweet something like: New set online including playlist + url. Now you’ve used the different platforms in their own way.

Nope, if you use the soundcard in your computer you have to plug your speakers into your pc. If you use the S2 soundcard you keep your speakers plugged into your S2. I think you can also use the S2 as your standard soundcard for all the sounds your pc produces. So if you’re listening music or watching a movie on your computer the sound goed via your S2 soundcard and you don’t have to switch cables all the time.

Thats up to you, I don’t know what kind of soundcard you’ve got in your computer? The only thing is that you can only use one at a time. If you’ve got a standard soundcard in your pc, I would recommend to use the S2 as soundcard. In that case you connect your speakers to the S2. In the preferences of Traktor you can choose between soundcards.

I play with two X1’s and a APC20, mapping it myself for Traktor 2. Probably will never stop fine-tuning!

Well if money isn’t a problem go get the S4. My opinion is that the first thing a dj has to learn is beatmatching. If your good at that, then you can go expand your setup to give yourself more options while mixing.

Ait oke, well I think Facebook is the best tool to spread your mixes/tracks when starting as a dj. Just for the simple reason almost all the people I know are on the platform. I use Soundcloud to upload my sets, but also read some good stories about mixcloud. So my advice is to find a place where you can easily upload your music and spread it on the social platform most of your friends are on.

After that the first thing to do is build a website, doesn’t have to be difficult. Just a simple website with your contact details, music and a link to facebook is a good start. When you’re playing somewhere you can tell people to go to your website where they can find everything they need. After the website is done you can always add other platforms like twitter etc.

Jep, make sure you get the Traktor software with it. First instal the software, after that plugin the S2 and you’ll be fine.
