    I’ve just found out about this 23 year old producer/DJ – Maya Jane Coles, listening to her awesome essential mix right now 🙂 here are two tunes for you:

    The next one should have gone on my new tech mix, but somehow mistakenly skipped over it :(, but it will be on Groove machine pt 2 🙂

    I’m still on Traktor 1.2.7, though at the moment I’m using 2 decks mainly and would only use decks 3/4 for samples, so traktor 2 appeals to me for grabbing loops on the fly rather than pre arranging them into a file. However, with upgrade around £60 it is a bit much. However, I’m trying to sell my Xone 92 mixer to fund the S4 and so hope to upgrade free that way.

    I’ve got a question. I want to start seriously with DJíng. The first thing what I need is a laptop.
    But should I take Windows or MacOS?

    Hi there, you might wish to read the other laptop recommendation threads already posted on the forum too, like:

    Old: sorting your records by hand into genres and last/not listened to
    New: tagging and clicking on column headings to sort

    To help me with track selection I use the star rating tag in itunes/traktor, not for rating how well I like a track, I like them all or I would n’t have them, but rather where the track would fit in my sets. I do this after buying and analysing keys. Here is how I mark them:
    * = Chillout
    ** = Warm Up
    *** = Transition
    **** = Peak
    ***** = Classic/Dance floor bomb

    Using that along with genre and key usually helps to narrow down the selection easy enough. If I get in bother playing a particular style, I can easily find a classic to pull me out.

    Serato I guess is the only one not touching it…except on ITCH. I personally think Traktor is going to keep rising to a degree that Serato will have to think less “keepin it real” and modernize.

    I think the reason that serato doesn’t have sync is that its that the timing is dependent on the timecode being picked up by the turntables, it will even at zero pitch lock drift off slightly as its not perfect timing. The same thing happens when using traktor scratch in DVS, you only get syncing working when using midi.

    I agree, anything goes, dont be constrained byt perfect beatmatching etc limiting your choices. MistaJam on BBC Radio 1 Xtra does a challenge to his listeners to give him any two tracks to mix, he’s always managed to do the times I’ve listened to the show. Since my early days of clubbing I’ve heard some awesome DJ’s who will go through all genres like michael jackson to jimi hendrix without skipping a beat. It’s why I tried to doing a latin mix – to try and push the envelope of what I can do and challenge myself, it wasn’t a good mix at all, but I’ve learnt a lot from it 🙂 Its also about learning the techniques – learning to scratch is very useful here.
