That is so true for me I can set up in less then 5 min if I only need to bring controller + laptop. Lights I need at least an hour I have a lot of lights enough to not have room for my car in the Garage 😀
I would also say get some LED pars first (ADJ MegaTriPar profile) and or A Revo IV (if lifted high enough it will light up a whole dance floor)
I have 16 regular LED par cans and 8 Flat pars and if you choose to get once with 10 mil LEDs (and not 3in1 color) I recommand putting a filter in front of them just makes them nicer to look at and you’ll get a nicer color blend.
That moving Moonflower you posted has a strobe but forget any hope of it making any real effect on the room.
I made the mistake of getting cheep lights when I started investing in lights (Lucky for me I could sell them all again) and most of them lost all their charm as soon as other more powerful light were on.
If you plan on getting Lasers you need fog or haze they are almost useless without it.gullum
ParticipantSampler comparison Traktor has perfect control over the Remix decks with the F1. Whit Serato there is not one of it supported controllers that has full control over the SP-6 sampler the iPad remote is the closest you get to fully control the SP-6. If you only want to trigger samples the all of the DDJ SX, VCI 400 – 380 and others with pads will do a grate job with the sampler but if you want to do more then it’s going to be mostly mouse triggering or mapping a new controller for it.
Of the current version Traktor and Mixvibe have the best samplers for the way I like to work. Serato is also good for triggering samples but VDJ sampler in the last several version is IMO a joke that might change in a couple of years when version 8 is released (that was a joke 😀 )gullum
ParticipantActually Traktor Cruse mode is quite good you make a playlist load first song turn up fader A and B press play your set.
Like to make changes to the order of songs add a song that you just thought of do it. want to change playlist just go to an other playlist and load a song into the not playing deck and it will continue playing from that playlist.September 7, 2013 at 7:43 pm in reply to: What do DJs think about clubbing as "just something you do in your 20s"? #43860gullum
ParticipantI’m hem ooo 41 I play gigs almost every weekends Fri/saturday and if I’m not play one of those nights I’m at some club. Drinking and hanging out around the DJ booth 😀
I started clubbing at the age of 12 I know that young but I was one of 3 Breakdancer’s in my town and the club liked having us dancing. At that time you could not buy alcohol in clubs in my country. Wasn’t until some time in my 20’s clubs and bars could sell alcohol. That means I’ve been clubbing for almost 30 years 😀 I do not drink while I DJ so it has not weared my down as much as some of my friend that used to be DJ’s but just couldn’t take it no more because of alcohol abuse.
Why clubbing is a phase thing for most is probable because they get a day job, family and weekend become the only time to relax.August 17, 2013 at 3:17 pm in reply to: Mixvibes Cross and CrossDJ 2.5 update and video plugin 1.1.2 #43241gullum

Have you ever edited any of the MIDI maps for Cross?? There are a couple of things I want to change on the MC6000 mapping: Not control the master volume by default, and the same for the cue/mix knob.If only want to make changes to knobs that have no led feedback it is really simple to mapp. You make a copy of the offical midi mapper then it’s as simple as finding the function you like to map press the green + and turn the knob then choose how it should behave press ok.
led feedback needs to be done in an XML editor though.gullum
Participantwhat you can also do is match the playing song to the cueing track. it sometimes can make a cool energy change to the track. Like often used in 80’s 90’s pop and rock songs where the last chorus is repeated but the key is raised.
I did a gig last night using only a Kontrol Z1 and F1 with Cross and it worked quite well although I missed my DDJ SX jog’s and led feed back.July 18, 2013 at 11:18 pm in reply to: Mixvibes Cross and CrossDJ 2.5 update and video plugin 1.1.2 #42386gullum
Participantyou can import you Traktor collection into Cross with all hotcues 😀 just go to files -> import third party database and import the traktor collection.nml you still need to analyse songs for the waveform but you keep all the hot cues.

ParticipantDepending on what you mean pro? lots of Pro DJ use 2 CDJ 2000 and a mixer so only using 2 decks. Much of what they can do you can do on a Denon MC 2000 They for the most part only have better FX in the mixer and bigger controls.
When you start playing out you have a controller you know very well so you know the limitations and as you start getting some money from gigs you can then upgrade to something more(Pro)gullum
ParticipantI alway if possible have my MBP beside the controller and never in front of me. For the most part I only need to look at it while selecting next track to play anyway.

ParticipantIf you get a Mixtack Pro or Denon MC 2000 you don’t need the Focusrite for DJ’ing. for what you want to do I would get the Denon MC 2000 because it has a line in (aux)
Then you can hook up your speakers to the output of the Denon and hook up the Focusrite to the line in. That way you don’t have to move cables around when you want to DJ or Produce.gullum

ParticipantI do any crazy think that springs to mind as I’m DJ’ing if I feel like Jesus posing I do it. If I get into a cold booth I definitely won’t be cold leaving it.
If someone is laughing at how someone else is preforming based on their moves, it might very well be the laughing persons limitations or insecurity. But that is also good for that person because it shows him/her their limits or how far they are willing to go. As Terry said a well times Jesus pose can be a highlight of a drop. Not much is happening with music as it building up the room/stage gets dark and the drop with explosion and bright lights all eyes are focused on the DJ’s Jesus pose. you know what at that time the DJ might have been God for all that matters. 😀gullum
ParticipantThere is something coming for iPad
http://www.thomann.de/de/ehrgeiz_airdmx_ipad_dmx_controller.htm
but not sure when it’s releasedgullum
ParticipantIf you already have a sound card the DJM 350 would be the cheeper solution but the Pioneer DJM-T1 is traktor scratch certified and has basic controls over some of tractor futures and 1/1 fx controls. If I were going for a Traktor mixer I would probable get the NI Z2
gullum
ParticipantI really like that ProDJuser one and for the ADJ one’s I don’t use the T-bar unless I really need to.
