ParticipantBoth look like solid choices and actually are virtually exactly the same. It’s really more about preference on where you want the big buttons and stuff.
I would REALLY wait for the Reloop Beatmix 4 to come out and priced at 299 euro’s for a sweet controller + serato included is really a great steal.
I’ll reply more because I have to head out.

ParticipantWhen is Beatmix 4 available agian?
Grant
ParticipantHi, depends on what route that you want to go (digital or analogue). Digital seems to be more cost friendly, and there’s some great information on here already (search button) because these questions have been asked before.
However, as for me, I’m still using just a laptop with VDJ and some DJ Phones. I’ve purchased the little 9 dollar course from here and it gives you a nice little head start on DJ, but mainly it’s just the absolute basics. From a starting out point I’d really recommend picking up the DJ Buyer’s Guide on here (sorry too lazy to link the links, plus at work atm) and take a look at all your options to choose from.
One of the main things that’s been hammered into me from here is that it really doesn’t matter what hardware you choose to use if certain criteria’s are made and that’s 2 sources of music, a mixer, and ultimately a Pitch adjuster. As long as those three criteria are met, you can learn to dj. I’d start with manual beatmatching first and then after that move onto learning about Bars, Phrases, and learning your songs. That way you can set up your cue points and loops accordingly along with providing a good mix.
As for sound, go with an Active PA system, otherwise you’ll blow the regular house speakers at a party…or so I’ve heard =p
On a side note, if you’re really going to do some hip-hop, it has been recommended to get into a bit of scratching as well and there’s certain controllers that are good but obviously vinyl is king too.
Hopefully I was able to provide you with somewhat of an answer on where to start.

ParticipantI believe that we’re too late for the course, like Terry said though. Once you’ve purchased the program, you have it for life. I think it’d be cool to add an exam at the end of it 🙂
The big things that will be missed opportunities though is the interviews and some other added extra’s that will later on be purchased separately. Darn you marketing ploy(s) =p

ParticipantYeah, I was unable to get the masterclass today…i’ll get it in the future…The Reloop Beatmix 4 Will be on the horizon though.
Grant
ParticipantGood thing payday is on this upcoming monday 😉
Grant
ParticipantI thought the class was a set of videos but you’re still treating it as a course that goes from semester to semester?
I’ll be signing up for it if I at least have a weeks cushion (provided everyone doesn’t go crazy). All I can say is…wish me luck guys.

ParticipantActually…I’ve a question about how long this promo will be going on for as I’m in between paydays
Grant
ParticipantRemember that there’s the new MasterClass that’s being offered and you can do it at your own pace 😉
I’ve yet to purchase into the program and that I will when I can.Grant
ParticipantWell all of this is invaluable information! Thanks to everyone, as a beginner I’m learning lots about this.
Grant
ParticipantDamn…I still might just have to grab that!….that’s like 450 cdn
Grant
ParticipantWell somehow managed to find someone just trying to dump a Vestax Typhoon so I’m going to grab that to learn manual beatmatching and other basics. Thanks everyone 😀

Participanti thought that beatmix 4 was 399 euro?
Grant
ParticipantI guess it being my first controller…maybe I’ll put it out there on here…if there’s anyone that has an old mixtrack pro II give me a shout (BC Canada though haha)
Maybe I’ll just follow the flow with that, on top they have the sample packs that go along with the Mix Pro II…And then set my visions for higher after…hmmm

ParticipantThe beauty of PC’s….once set up and properly maintained (scheduled maintenance) runs as smooth if not smoother then apples and at the fraction of the cost…although I admit that apples design is pretty top notch…but just get an ASUS or a Samsung to counter that :p
