ParticipantI’m not incredibly experienced when it comes to software, but I’ve tried Virtual DJ LE and Serato DJ Intro that came with my N4 and I don’t have a problem with either of those. After some research, I took the plunge and went for Traktor Pro 2 and like it so far, although it’s not as iTunes-integrated as the others. You can still access your iTunes library and all your tracks are still there, but you need to do some extra work organizing it in the Traktor software itself in order to have playlists and such. You can still access everything, it’s just not as user-friendly as the others I’ve tried.
Otherwise, Virtual DJ has a great sampler that you may like (I haven’t played around with Traktor’s yet, but I imagine it’s similar). Do you want 4-deck capability? If so, VDJ or TP2 may be the way to go. I’m having some trouble with hot-cueing on decks 3 and 4 in TP2 though (although a simple mapping adjustment may fix it).
Since you’re using vinyl, you may want to look into the Traktor SCRATCH as well, which I’m not familiar with.
Hopefully this helps at least a little, if you haven’t already got some by now

Haha I had the same thing with the iPod Touch! What a blast! I’d take it on roadtrips with an FM transmitter and dj for everyone in the car for hours (what I consider my first public gigs :)).

ParticipantI believe they do fade out all the way. I just took the plunge for TP2 a few days ago so I’m not too familiar with it yet but I haven’t noticed a “residual” EQing or anything like that. Are you using a controller with it? If so, I guess it could be a mapping issue. I’ll try it myself this evening and let you know what I find if no one else has replied.

ParticipantI’m also very interested and have been looking for something similar for awhile. Like Vinny’s asking, what kind of music are you looking to have? And does location matter? What I mean is, are you looking to have in-person interaction while putting this show together or would e-mail, skype, etc. be all right? Because I imagine most of us are going to be living very far from you.

Haha power to him! MC’s are my biggest pet peeve, I couldn’t imagine djing with one. I’m playing this music for it to be heard, not to be a backdrop for someone’s “ingenious” rhymes.

ParticipantI’m a huge fan of advertizing the music I love so I would most times wear a good looking shirt from another DJ. For instance, I’ve got a great bright blue Above & Beyond t-shirt with just the A&B logo laid on top of a map of the world. The colors work great on it and I love that it’s only the logo instead of actually saying “Above & Beyond” because it’s always nice to have some one say hi to you when they recognize it.
Really, no one’s going to see your pants or shoes so those go to just whatever is most comfortable (usually jeans and tennis shoes, but I’ve got a fantastic pair of cowboy boots that will most likely make the rounds as well :))

ParticipantI got a brand new Numark N4 for $500 and it’s been great for me so far– 4 deck control, cues, sampling, and it’s relatively durable. It’s got Traktor Pro 2 mapping as well although I can’t comment on how it is as I’m not yet a Traktor user. If you can get a great deal on an S2 though, you may just want to go with goofrider’s recomendation and use the money saved to get a Kontrol F1 or the like (but of course you won’t have the four-track control). I’ve had absolutely no problems with the N4 though.

vms4.1 is made of metal giving the impression that the durability is higher than N4
The question remains, my friends what I buy?
help me please!!!I got the N4 and couldn’t be happier with it even with its plastic build. It’s been fantastic for me so far. Metal will always be more durable than plastic though so if you tend to be rough on controllers the VMS may be a better option although I never had the chance to try one out for myself so I’m not sure how the functionality compares to the N4. I’m not familiar with the Terminal 4 either unfortunately.

ParticipantSo far (meaning the past two weeks) I’ve been primarily using Virtual DJ LE that came with the N4. I tried Serato Intro that also comes with the N4 and it’s got some nice features and I think I like the mapping better but it doesn’t have 4-deck capability which is the whole reason I got the N4.
The VDJ LE latency is noticable but only if you’re scratching. In just my normal use, I’ve never had any issues. The VDJ and Serato I’m using are just the light versions the controller came with though, not the upgrades. If you’re using pro versions of either one, you may have better experiences. Neither one is bad though. The Numark site has got an N4 mapping for Traktor Pro 2 as well if you’re a Traktor userFebruary 16, 2012 at 10:11 pm in reply to: which of the two and better numark n4 or American Audio VMS4.1? #15102DJ
ParticipantIceman, did you mean to add a link?
Yes, the N4 is plastic which, so far, is the only downside for me as well. Fortunately it doesn’t feel as plastic as it looks (and with the black, reflective surfacing Numark’s put on it, it doesn’t even look all that bad). But yes, thinking back on it, the primary reason I was considering the VMS over the N4 was because the metal VMS just seemed to look (and I imagine, feel) so much better. I prefer heavier controllers as well so the ~20 lb. VMS sounded really good. Otherwise though, I couldn’t be more certain that I made the right decision by choosing the N4.February 16, 2012 at 9:55 pm in reply to: Skrillex won a Grammy. Is this the end or new beginning for dubstep? #15099DJ
ParticipantI read an article that mentioned the special meeting that the Grammy committee held one year in order to discuss if Sasha’s Involver (or maybe Involv2er, I don’t recall) was applicable, and thus eligible, for the Dance Album category, as many had suggested. I thought it was funny, interesting, and perhaps a testament to Sasha’s type of production that they have these kinds of discussions.

ParticipantI went through the same battle between the two and decided on the N4. I researched both and was never able to find a full review of the VMS whereas I found a few for the N4 which were all favorable. I’ve had it for two weeks now and am loving it.

ParticipantFinally got it, and it was simple after all. I had the output in the configuration menu set to “Single Output” when I should have had it set to “Headphones.” Now the cueing is working perfectly. Thanks for all your help
DJ
ParticipantNo, unfortunately it’s not that simple. That’s the first thing I went for and still it’s a no-go. I think it’s some kind of software setting that’s off.
DJ
ParticipantHaha, well put. I ended up getting the N4 after all which I’m loving, so cheers all around
