Star them in iTunes instead and you shouldn’t have any trouble.

As after all, what is the point of making a successor if it doesn’t actually do anything to improve on the original?

That sounds to me like what they did with the 4Trak.

In my experience, iTunes meta data seems to always trump Traktor’s. Are you starring the songs in iTunes or just in Traktor? When songs are starred in iTunes they should stay starred regardless of whether you close Traktor or not.

By lighting do you mean a rig and all? The “lighting” I bring with me is a blacklight and a $30 mini laser which take all of 20 seconds to set up and work just fine for the house parties that I typically play for.

Use Richie Hawtin’s Twitter DJ app. I had it up and running in about half an hour. I had to mess around with it a bit because I’m also PC and the only examples in the app manual were Mac but it worked great. I even played my full, live set with it that night and didn’t have any problems. Download the app and manual and just follow his instructions.

I was looking forward to this one more than any other in recent memory! The individual tracks are absolutely beautiful and ever since Involver 1 I’ve known he’s the remix master but I was a bit disappointed in the continuous mix (which, to me, has been the point of the Involver series, to have him take you on that 90 minute journey). It didn’t feel like it was able to breathe as much as the others. He went vocal into vocal into vocal track without ample instrumental in between to appreciate it. It was a bit heartbreaking for me honestly because I think it could have been flawless if he had kept all the same tracks in there but made it around a 2 hour mix instead, adding some good, deep, emotional instrumentals.

But good lord nobody makes an album like he does! I saw him in Dallas a few weeks ago and it was like a full system cleanse to experience that kind of refreshing, innovative journey. It completely cleared out all the gunk I had built up from the generic EDM that permeates everything nowadays.

Did you get the full (deluxe maybe?) album? It’s got the unmixed tracks, continuous mix, beatless mix, and download code for the Our Man in the Field video. If not then I’d recommend it. I’m in absolute love with the beatless mix and the video is an interesting take too.

I’m pretty sure it’s a bit far north of you but I’ll be moving to Bethesda this July for school and would love to make some connections too. I figure I’ll be in the same boat though, being pretty well held in place by school and any newly-married obligations. But you never know.

I’ve been loving the iceverb lately too. You can mess around with the Size parameter to apply some nice pitching effects to build ups or breakdowns. Of course you can use normal reverb too. A simple way to use it is to start bringing in the new track B, start increasing the D/W reverb on track A (making sure there’s a high pass on the reverb so things don’t get muddy) while continuing to bring in track B, lower the volume a bit on track A, then either fade out A all the way or freeze the reverb once B kicks in.

Yeah, same here. Once you set them, they’re set until you change them. The only thing I can think of is you don’t have Traktor set up to save the collection when you close the program so it wipes all the cue points out.

I’m all for it too, man. That, in my mind, is what dj-ing is all about. It sounds like we’re on the same page so get in touch with me if you want to try to implement something. I too can attest for the nasty attitudes of the other djs here but I’m sure there are still a few “purists” (I hate that word, but you know what I mean) around. First of all, what do you mean by “Warehouse Rave.” We all have that fantasy in our minds, but what do you mean specifically as far as crowd, music, etc.

I’m thrilled that this is starting up! Again, I would absolutely love to get involved or offer my help in any way when I get out there in June (hopefully by then it will be a weekly thing anyway!). Definitely keep updating this thread so everyone can stay in the loop. Thanks again!

I’ll be moving to Bethesda in June for school and I’d love to get involved if you will still be looking. What kind of EDM?

Well the 4Trak has its own internal soundcard, so the audio interface isn’t necessary. Take that out of the setup and it may help you. Next, an XLR is a balanced cable, which essentially means you need two of them to get the full signal (a left output and a right output). By VCA do you mean RCA? If so, that is an unbalanced cable, which means it can transmit both signals with just one cord (that’s why it’s got two connectors, red and white–one goes in the left output and the other into the right).

As for the split cue, have you installed the 4Trak audio drivers? Do that first before plugging the 4Trak in or starting Traktor. After that, plug the 4Trak into your computer directly (without using the Focusrite interface), turn it on, then start Traktor. Start the Controller Wizard (it’s called something like that) and choose 4Trak as your controller. Finish the wizard and that should set you up correctly.

It’s probably the most obvious answer, just don’t look at the screen. That’s how I did/do it.

I’m in the same boat from Waco, TX (hardly thriving metropolis). If you want to find a club with ANY type of music (even top 40, hip-hop, etc.) you need to go to Dallas or Austin, 90 miles away. I started trying to find places to play, but just became known as the “techno” guy (“techno” naturally, meaning anything with a 4/4 kick. I play mostly house and trance). I’ve found it best just starting through friends. I’ve been playing house parties and have been starting to build a following just through that. Once you’ve got that following (it doesn’t have to be hundreds of people, it can even be ten), you can post mixes of what you like to play and word will spread through people listening to them. With any luck, that music will catch on, even in just your group of friends and you can use that to host your own nights. Moving on from there, there are some great blog posts on here about hosting bigger nights and upgrading to bigger venues.
