ParticipantYou’re right, but it is a console exclusive though 😉

ParticipantHey clock
Thanks for the kind comment. I have to say that this is probably my best mix yet, but there was a fair deal of luck involved. The tracks are indeed a bit darker and deeper, but you can surely expect more of this to come in the (near) future.

ParticipantI gave this mix a few listens and imo it might be your best one so far. Maybe less IS more? 🙂 It all sounds like one big part, which obviously is meant as a compliment.
Only thing I noticed though is the transition between Icicle’s Late Hours & Lost Hours at about 10 mins and the one from Dustup to Captive at 15:35? Sounds like it’s a tiny bit off beat at those points. But since you’re mixing on CDJ’s it’s something that can easily be forgiven.
Otherwise this is a very nice mix Kiss! I think you’ve chosen some of the best tunes that are currently out there on Beatport.
Thumbs up and keep them coming! 😉

ParticipantSorry for the late reply, but I gave this a listen and this sounds really good! Very good mixing overall and I like your selection of tunes.
You gave me some major inspiration on searching for new artists, so in general I’d just say please let them mixes coming!

ParticipantThanks DJimC 🙂
You’re right about the transitions sometimes being crowded. I think it can be quite hard to find the sweet spot when cutting or boosting the lows and mids, so I always do my best not to overdo it. The highs seem to be less of a problem though? But I’ll definately pay more attention to it in the future, so thanks for the tip!
It’s really great to get some elaborate feedback on my work. It keeps me going!
I’ll definately be looking forward to your mixes as well.

ParticipantAlmost finished listening to your mix, but I can already conclude that this one really flows away as well. Can’t seem to find one mistake and it’s just perfect for listening to during late hours. I really should look into the liquid dnb genre asap, ’cause I can obviously enjoy it. Keep ’em coming please!
Btw, can I also ask what gear you’re using?
FleXe
ParticipantJust finished listening to this one and I liked it, no doubt about that!
Maybe a tad off beat here and there but never problematic. Nice selection of tunes and most of all, as opposed to mine, your mix sounds very harmonic overall. Will definately check out your other work as well!
A member this one can learn from 🙂

ParticipantHey thanks for the comment DJimC. I’ve been working on a new mix for the past few days, which I already uploaded in this section. I guess that one was mixed a bit better, but the key clash issue is probably even worse there, hehe. Maybe I should invest in some software like Mixed In Key, although I think I’d be relying a bit too much on it.
Do you have any tips as far as key matching goes?
FleXe
ParticipantIt’s definately not a bad thing clock. I admit that sometimes I find it hard to divide all the different songs in a techno mix, as I find the synths and such sounding much more subtle than in other music genres. My ears are probably not trained enough haha.
The point where you mix in the Lambada remix could’ve happened a bit more gentle maybe, but I never find the transitions too harsh or anything.
And yes I see you’re owning a lot of gear. Still seems like you’re getting the most out of it though?
Anyway, keep up the good work! I will surely keep an ear on your work 😉

ParticipantAnother Numark Mixtrack Pro/Traktor Pro user over here. I have to admit that I too use the phase meters a bit too often. I find it very hard to beatmatch when you are mixing in a song that’s still in the intro. I can’t imagine how many times I’d have to start over again if I had to beatmatch every song by ear. Also, I’m a perfectionist so I like my beatmatches to be absolutely spot on. I bet it would demand years of practise if I’d have to do it manually. Still, I’m in the same boat as Jshster. And should I decide to step over to CDJ’s at one point in time, I guess it’s best to refrain from counting on all that visual info asap.

ParticipantHey clockwise
I listened to your mix and although I’m not very familiar with the style of music, I really liked your set! The tracks seem well chosen to me. The first thing I noticed was the varation. I was able to tell every transition, and regarding that I have to admit that sometimes I find that hard within this genre. Here and there the transitions might be a wee bit off and I have the feeling that you changed the pitch out of nowhere sometimes? I don’t know if you did it on purpose as I don’t have a lot of experience myself, so don’t blame me if it’s a common thing to do haha. Btw, I have a lot of respect for you trying to beatmatch using vinyl! I also admire your gear a lot. Hopefully there will come a time that I’ll be owning the same stuff.
Off to get to know some more of this kind of music now 😉
Cheers!

ParticipantHey Kiss
Thanks for your comment! Wasn’t expecting such positive feedback overall! I agree that the transition towards the end did not happen as fluent as planned. I hear a lot of dubstep DJ’s use Niggas in Paris in their sets as it’s a 140 bpm song as well, so in those mixes it blends in marvelously. Also, one of my friends really likes the song, so I wanted to play it just for her hehe. I expected the drum and bass version to suit perfectly since Sub Zero used it to end his X-mas remix as well, but I was wrong there.
The track listing is as follows:
DJ Fresh – Gold Dust (Shy FX Exclusive Re-Edit)
Logistics – Cosmonaught
Wilkinson – Samurai
Culture Shock – Troglodyte
Sub Focus – Timewarp VIP
Smooth – Virgo Cluster
Tantrum Desire – Higher
Spor – Aztec
Ebony Busters – Ra (Original Sin Remix)
Sub Zero – Your Flex (the one of which you thought was Warhead?)
DJ Hazard – Mr. Happy
Delta Heavy – Minus
Sigma – The Jungle (Sub Zero Remix)
Murdock – Black Out VIP
TC feat. Jakes – Bass By the Tonne VIP
Birdy Nam Nam – Goin’ In (Skrillex Goin’ Hard Remix)
Sub Focus – X-Ray
Tantrum Desire – Pay Your Own Way
Cyantific – The Tomorrow People
Jay Z & Kanye West – Niggas In Paris (Sub Zero Bootleg)And I can’t quite find the drop you’re talking about. Around 10 minutes I actually missed a drop from Virgo Cluster to Higher hehe. Maybe you mean the drop from Timewarp to Virgo Cluster? ‘Cause I really practised that one :p
Thanks again for the feedback! Really appreciating your opinion.

ParticipantI don’t play a lot of games anymore but when I do, it’s mainly on the PC. I only use my PS3 for the exclusives (Uncharted, Red Dead Redemption, …).
PC gaming overall seems cheaper to me. For starters, the games are mostly 2/3 the price of a console game and if you do it right, you can build a system that lasts for years.

ParticipantI’ve been to a few drum and bass and dubstep concerts, the last one was UKF Rampage in Antwerp last September where I heard many DJ do it. The “backspin” is the one thing I hate about the genre. Granted, it’s a fun technique to use, but to me it completely takes out the energy of a mix. I only do it when I want to mix two songs and I want to use the standard bpm of a song to avoid crazy high pitched vocals.

ParticipantI’ve been playing electric guitar for almost 11 years now. Played in a punk rock/rock ‘n’ roll band from 2002 to 2006, but all of us outgrew the genre so we decided to call it a day. Since then I’ve only been playing solo in my bassment. Gotta say I miss playing in a band sometimes.
Also, I’ve always wanted to play bass guitar, but I don’t think that would be a smart move ’cause I remember having a pretty serious case of G.A.S. back in the day 🙂
