Best setup imo for EDM DJs…unless you can afford the Kontrol S4

im also a beginner and looking to buy my first midi controller. Already praticed with traktor and got my mind set for the kontrol s2 because its a perfet match with the software obvious. hope u will find the right equipment + software that fits u booka!

which software do u use or would u like to use?? what kind of music are u mostly going to play??? If u can give some more information about what u like in a midi controlle, etc, etc. Try to be more specific, because with the information ur giving there are indeed a lot of controllers for that money! 🙂

Ok, thanks for the reply phil. I did find these two videos online that are pretty helpfull (one is in german, one in english):

    – (english)

I’m pretty excited about the JB Systems Kontrol 3 DJ MIDI controller. As you can see in the above video it does work with traktor software. Hopefully we’ll get a review on this site about these two. But…. maybe i should save some more money for the traktor s2 :), the fact that the s2 is perfectly suited for traktor software is a big plus for me. But, for example, the kontrol 3 has a kill switches and a cool function called needle drop.

@atom12v: Mostly i’m going to play techno – minimal – techhouse – acid – electro and maybe a little bit house. I would love to use sample, loops, scratch, mix one after the other and maybe after a while even try to do some mash up. My favourite DJ is Dave Clarke, his style is something I look up to. But for example also love Laurent Garnier because of his wide range of music choice (and ofcourse skills). I dont want to mess TO much with songs, but when i do i want it to be at the right time. (DUH)

About the store advice. I agree with u there. Only it’s hard to find a good store that sells this stuff, but i’m going to look for it and hope i can test the gear out. I’ve already looked one up: http://muziek.marktplaats.nl/dj-sets-en-draaitafels/1001555762-native-instruments-traktor-kontrol-s2-uit-doos-geweest.html 345 euro for s2 with 2 year warranty. controller only been out of the box for a demo. maybe i can try it out at this store.

@D-Jam: Thanks for this simple but (atleast for me) effective explanation. I also spoken to some friends who are DJ’s and this information pretty much confirmed my thinking. One friend of mine uses the traktor s4 midi controller. Soon i’m going to see him and he will try to explain the traktor software and the s4. At first i said that maybe the traktor s2 is out of my league but im thinking that buying that wont be a bad deal…. I rather put some more money on the table to make sure im absolutely satisfied with my software + hardware.

@synthet1c: Thank for clearing out about VDJ. At the moment i’m using this software so will see how it goes. Also thank u for the usefull links. But when u talk about motorised platters, rgb leds, script options and djtt mappings i really have no clue… hahaha. I dont know why but at this moment i think tractor is the most suited software for me because of the opinions of friends and when i am looking at forums like these most of the people are using traktor and are really happy with it. But i’m trying to be open minded and going to try out VDJ and traktor right now to see what suits me.

THANKS AGAIN GUYS FOR YOUR REPLIES!! REALLY HELPFULL!!! 🙂
