If people know you as a scratch dj, and they are coming to hear that, you can use it for intros and outros. (this can vary somewhat depending if this is meant as a “hip hop” night. easy eqaution ‘more backwards ball caps=more scratchin’)
If people are expecting a “dance” club, I would only do it as sort of an intermission, and ONLY if I had an MC to get on the mic and let people know what I was about to do (if no MC, the promoter can do this) It would still need to happen at the proper time for how the club/night is progressing, and only once per night. I would probably never do this before midnight. But done properly and at the right moment, it can be a great thing.

D-Jam, post: 8647 wrote: I’m lost. What’s the benefit of an Innofader on a midi device?

Maybe I’m missing something, but unless there’s an analog sound coming through the fader, there doesn’t seem to be any reason for a high-end fader on a midi control. Just a slider that had a good feel.

Yes, I agree. I used “Inno” as sort of a generic reference to high “scratch” quality faders. As you stated, all you really need is a good feel. It will be interesting to see midi controllers come with “Rail-Glide” crossfaders. That would be nice.

My ideal controller would be an iPad docking mixer with dual innofaders and look something like this

I say just give ’em the map. I mean I might get weired out if the same person kep asking for a map everytime they got something new or wanted a new function. I try to remember how confused I was back when I had to pester Phil for mapping help. So if I have it, I’ll try to get it to them. My mapps are never complete anyways, haha, so they will have to do some work, too.

It would actually be a good purchase in case you also need a new laptop (say you’re old one isn’t good enough for running mixing software). Otherwise, I don’t really like it – mostly because of its lack of outputs (for the price..)

Right now, I have 7 midi controllers all gathering dust( well actually they’re wrapped in, but you get the idea) I also have four Scs4dj, and two iPad controllers, and can honestly say that the Scs4dj (my new one) is the go to device for any and all uses. (I’m not bragging, I’m just saying that I have options, yet choose the 4dj) Having the screen on the device is just sooo much better than a laptop screen which I have to look up at. I also run a line level source into the mic input and it sounds very good, and I can record that input along with the system sound. The beautiful bit about the scs4dj is that you can run a phone or tablet into that mic input and have a 3 or 4 deck controller, particularly nice with an iPad app with bpm, fx, and loops, like DJay.

The reload squashes that janky Gemini controller and the Hercules. Gents, until you’re brave enough, or lucky enough to get free stuff, and begin to open them up and take a look at the real build quality, you will never know what is what. I absolutely love DJTech controllers, well some not all. I like all the mini ones, the vtt, cdj, and the 101 mixer. the iMix is basically the same parts. I haven’t had a 4 mix. For those in the know, many DJ Tech products are the hidden gems of DJing. I wouldn’t take a Hercules or Gemini control, if they gave it to me. Think I don’t know what I’m talking about? Check out this $200 controller….

Random question is this how your set up/most sets ups are now a days for people using computers?

Thanks again. I don’t feel lost anymore 🙂

Yep, pretty much, with varying degrees of complexity
So, you do know about ASIO4ALL right? This is a free driver, and it’s really good. You can use right away. You would still need the interface for pre-listening and cueing, but you could at least get a better control from the disco. Are you using cross, in the settings does it say wasapi?
    Download at
    http://www.asio4all.com
Run it, then go into settings and choose asio4all
You can also try the demo of Traktor pro
    http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/dj/traktor-pro-2/demo-version/?r=4e8a9d5cd30eb

Here is a TSI for the discover DJ
    http://www.mediafire.com/?9jlq34gk5lmlahq
Go into Traktor pro settings and click import, and select the TSI I made
Then set the midi device to discover DJ

You should use asio4all with Traktor pro, also.
Asio4all is like turning your on-board sound device into pro quality

Jimmy, post: 8094 wrote: Well, I am probably going to go with the first one you posted. It is very inexpensive and the reviews are amazing for it.

One more quick question FileSpnr, since it seems you know about this stuff. How do the plugs work from the back U-Control? I know this is probably a really dumb question, but I am new to this. There is the input and output, do they plug into the back of the speakers &/or the computer? The reason I ask is because I have a Logitech sound system. It does not have any input or output ports in the back. It has 1 cord that goes straight into the computer.

If I do have to plug this into the back of the speakers, I will look into getting a new sound set up & then buying this.

    That’s actually a common question.
Are the speakers that you have connected to the computer with USB? Or do they plug into the headphone port?
If they are USB, then the computer will think of them as an audio interface, same as the uca202. If this is the case, then yea you will not be able to use them with the uca202.(although it is possible in some instances to use multiple interfaces, let’s assume that may be asking a bit much for your situation right now)
If the speakers plug into the headphone out, you only need a “Y-cable” & a ” barrel” connector. Y-cables are about $7 @ radio shack, the barrel connector connects the two cables; the cable from your speakers & the Y-cable, which connects to the uca202 with the RCA end.
    This is a y-cable
