I learnt very quickly after a few gigs, all the majority of people at these events want to hear are songs they know. Stick to popular songs that people can sing and dance to, then late on in the night when people get sloppy, bring out some different things.

Reloop DJ3 ME was lovely when I had it.

And now have the S2 now.

Both are good, but again, Traktor.

Sorry my bad. Never realised that about serato.

If you bring your next song in on the 1 of a phrase, and then do some careful EQing.

If you are using software, I used to always check how many bars it is on the song i am bringing in, until something major happens or vocals start. You can do this by running your mouse over the wave form. I then left my mouse on the current songs waveform in a place where there seems to be not much going on, or a break (always on the 1 of a phrase).

If you make sure something is happenening in both when you switch, people are naturally expecting something to change in the song, so is more discreet when you EQ stuff out or bring a song in.

Hope you get what I mean, as I know I haven’t explained it well, but I’v just woken up.

Is this what you were asking? If you are using CDJ’s then it is still the same principal, but you just need to know your songs well.

MacBook will power both controllers, and as far as I am aware you can map any button on MTP or LPD8 to any function in serato

What software would you like to use? Stick with vdj? Or try out serato or traktor?

I think what he said is spot on. He seems genuine, and also he admits that he isn’t the best DJ in the world.

People always want to call “fake” and try and belittle people who have made it. Hell, Pauly D when watching Jersey Shore actually comes across as a nice person, and I am happy that he has found continued success in DJing.

Replace the hot cue/sample buttons with slightly larger pads (think DDJ-SX). Pop off some knobs and faders, slap on some DJTT Chroma Caps, maybe add some cool LED stripes, just for fun, and we’re good to go. 😀

You wouldn’t class yourself as a controllerist by any chance would you?

Mixtrack Pro is nice for a low budget. As is Reloop Beatmix

NI S2, Dennon MC3000, Reloop TM4, Numark ?? all are nice mid level controllers, mostly 2 deck.

S4, Pinoeer DDJ-SX, TM4, Vestax VCI-400 are all top level.

I can’t really help if I dont know what price range you are looking at.

S4 sounds good, and also can be used if you ever decide you wanna go DVS.

Also if you are a hot cue aholic, the F1’s give you 16 big buttons (2 x 8 hot cues).

Also I don’t know if it matters to you or not, but when you look at NI gear next to each other, it all matches and looks nice. Never thought of this until I put my F1 next to my S2 and they look sexy.

But then again I am biased because I have had such a good experience with NI products.

If i was you personally. I would try and pick up an old Mixtrack Pro 1 for a good price, and really learn on that. You should be able to sell it on for a similar price to what you picked it up for. You can then try out serato, VDJ and Traktor.

If you like Traktor. S2 is lovely and what I gig on (Although doesnt have standalone function)

    If you like serato. TM4

    VDJ (I have no idea)

Dennons are also nice. And the higher range Numarks. Check out the DDJT Controller guide. Really is helpful.

I took the Chris Cartlidge (Maybe wrong spelling) and found it great. It really isn’t very expensive

I get the same on my 4GB mac sometimes. Just get random spikes in the load. Only does it when I have wifi and a load of other stuff going though. I restart mac before a gig and never had an issue when playing out. Only when I am crazily mashing buttons at home
