Hello Rob :);
Yes there are Definitely Tracks on Soundcloud with Low Quality; but if I find an Artist I Really Like I just write to them; tell them that I would like to use their Track in my next Radio Show and ask for the .wav file; and I have Never been Refused yet; and of course this Builds an Association where we can get ‘Exclusive Tracks’ π
However; Tracks Recorded in 32 or 24 Bit .wav and then Converted to 320 can Often be Very Good;
But; that starts the .wav VS 320 WAR so I Better Shut Up πEmma Partnow

Wow ok that sounds sick. Thanks for taking the time to write the above, really helpful.
What music do you spin? I’m guessin its like deep maybe techy house?
Interesting you use an EQ Eight and not the 3 or maybe a different plugin?
Yeah when you say run 2 different tracks into each other for 2 minutes do you mean your loops? As in fundamentally the beats?Hello Sam π
You are Welcome;
I Mix House; Deep House; Hard House; Techno; Ambient; Dubstep; whatever takes my Fancy at the time :);
I find that using the EQ Eight gives me Much More Control over the Frequencies; as the the EQ 3 is quite Standard;
I do like (and Often use) the Multiband Dynamics on Each Channel too; and of course will use the Spectrum Analyser too; (it was just that I was a bit Tired last night to remember Everything :))
I do use Drum Loops often in ‘Breaks’ just to Fill Up the Sound – and Often these Drum Loops are Cut from the Same Track that is playing; but when I say that I Always (Whenever Possible) Run Two Different Tracks into each other for Two Whole Minutes; I mean the Track (say Track 6) into the Next Track (say Track 7); this is just something I Learned and Developed over the years as a Technique; I Never Mess with the EQ – in the sense of turning Off the Bass on the Incoming Track – I just find Two Tracks (Ultimately 30 Tracks over a 2 Hour Period) where they will Mix and Run Together with Perfection – this is where my Joy comes from; and though it sounds Crazy; when it Happens it Almost Feels Spiritual (Apologies if that is Offensive to Anybody);Emma Partnow

I don’t know what the conversation was about; but this may give you some more information on the Subject π
Q) What Licenses do I need to become a Mobile DJ?
A) If you are a Mobile Disco intending to use original CD’s or Vinyl in order to provide the music at private functions within venues and to carry out Weddings, Children’s Parties, Anniversaries, Family Functions etc or any other event where guests are by invitation only, then no license will need to be purchased, as you will be fully covered for this performance by the venue, who should already have obtained an annual valid music license, for the playback of music and dancing within their premises.
The only exception to this rule, are Office Parties and Functions which are either open air or open to the general public, such as Fete’s, Carnivals, Sports Days’ etc where music will be played. This also includes events where a hall is hired for a public event and then tickets sold / admission charged for entry to that venue. An example of this would be a Soul Night or an Under 16’s function which is open to any member of the public, rather than invited guests. In these instances then it is up to the promoter / organiser of the event or the actual DJ to obtain a PPL License. These can be purchased either as a one-off occasion or a block annual license for regular weekly events.
Remember this PPL license is ONLY required, if the function is either open air or where an admission fee is charged. If the function is a private one, where the guests are invited friends and family of the client, then you will not need one!.
One thing to remember however, is that it will always remain the responsibility of the DJ to check that the venue you are working in, is correctly licensed for music before working there. If the venue is not licensed, and if it happens to be visited by the license enforcement team or an inspector then you may find yourself being held jointly liable with the venue owner should a prosecution be considered, so its always wise to ask, if their music license is not visible in the premises or above the door.
A PPL License, and further information can be obtained by calling the PPL Licensing team on:- 020 7534 1070
THE PRO-DUB LICENSE
If you are a Mobile DJ who uses MP3 or other digital media to provide the music as part of your set, then you will need to obtain a license which will enable you to convert music from one format to another (Called Format Shifting). This means that if you choose to ‘rip’ original music from CD to MP3, OGG, WAV or any other digital format, then you will need to pay a fee in order to license the process and make the music licensed. However, you cannot license digital tracks which are converted from CD’s which are borrowed or not owned by you and neither can you use the original CD’s and the digital tracks at the same time
Please note that this ‘Pro-Dub License’ is the name given to a fee applied to the actual conversion process and effectively gives permission to legally rip the music from a physical means to a digital file. It does not license the actual playback of the music once it is ripped, which means that the same requirements apply to the playback of the music once it is ripped, as generally applies to the use of CD’s or Vinyl.
At the time this article was written, the cost of the Pro-Dub License is Β£250 for a first year license to convert upto 5000 tracks. If you convert more than 5000 tracks then existing subscribers (license holders) can buy ‘top up’s to license tracks at a cost of Β£100 per 1000 additional tracks converted. However you should check the current pricing on the Pro-Dub website
More advice on the Pro-Dub license can be found here:-
The Pro-Dub License Website
License Requirement Examples
(Q) I am a DJ using original CD material which I have purchased(A) You DO NOT NEED ANY PPL LICENSE if you intend to work as a Mobile DJ within venues providing entertainment for private functions where the guests are friends and family of the client and there by personal invitation.
(Q) I am a DJ using a Laptop which contains music ripped from a private CD and Vinyl Collection
(A) You will need to obtain a Pro-Dub license which licenses the actual conversion process you did to convert the CD’s to digital format. If you work private functions such as Weddings and Family occasions then the same rules apply to the playback of the digital files as apply to general CD use.
(Q) I’m a DJ using Legal Downloads directly from my Laptop / Ipod
(A) This is currently a grey area and some major download companies may simply forbid DJ’s using their music commercially as part of a business. We advise that you contact the source(s) of the downloaded music to obtain written permission to use the material for DJ purposes. We also suggest that you contact the Pro-Dub team for further advice.
(Q) I generally do private functions, but Xmas is coming and i’ve got a lot of office parties.
(A) For reasons which many DJ’s still don’t understand, PPL licenses are required for these types of functions. We suggest either informing the client in order to obtain one, or apply for one yourself and pass on any cost within your fee. Contact the PPL on 020 7534 1070 for further advice. If you are doing more than one, then it may be cost effective to apply for a block license.
(Q) I do a residency at a members only sports club, do I need to apply for a license?
(A) Private members’ clubs are essentially treated the same as general private functions, and no DJ License is required where the club is only open to private members and their guests. However the club itself should still be licensed for music and have the relevant PPL documents in place. However, If the DJ uses music from a laptop / PC / Hard Disc based digital system and a conversion process from original CD or Vinyl has taken place, then a PRO-DUB license will still need to be obtained.
(Q) I’m planning on holding an Under 16’s disco for the local kids within the community using music from my laptop.
(A) You will need to obtain a PPL license for any public event where an admission is charged or where the function is freely open to members of the general public. You will also need to obtain a Pro Dub license which covers the use of music converted from CD to digital format.
(Q) I’m a Wedding Specialist who uses a mixture of CD and digital music from a Denon HD-2500, its not a laptop so I don’t need a pro-dub license?.
(A) If you only do private functions (Weddings) then no actual PPL license is required, and neither is any license required for the CD aspect of your disco!. However you will need to obtain a Pro-Dub license regardless of whether the digital music is stored on a laptop, ipod or Denon HD-2500!. The pro-dub covers the conversion aspect of the music not the playback means or medium and makes no discrimination between laptop users and hard drive based players.
(Q) I’ve just read on another Mobile Disco website, that a Pro-Dub License is required by ALL Mobile Disco’s, is this correct?.
(A) No, this is highly misleading scaremongering and incorrect. These type of rumours are spread around by DJ’s who either have not taken their industry serious enough to do the proper research or are highly inexperienced or operate unprofessionally. You should immediately report any offending business who is using this statement to the Pro-Dub team, and any DJ Association which the business is a member of. DJ’s who use original CD or Vinyl material do not need to apply for, or purchase a Pro-Dub license, only those who convert music to digital means will need to buy the Pro-Dub license.
(Q) I’ve bought a hard drive full off music off an auction site, can I buy a Pro-Dub license in order to use it?
(A) Currently there is no way of using copied music legally in the UK and harsh financial and criminal penalties exist for those providing / selling the illegal music as well as those found to be using it commercially. A Pro-Dub license only covers the transfer of music from CD’s which YOU already own to digital means, it does not cover music which is borrowed or loaned from other people or purchased illegally.Emma Partnow
MemberRob Francis, post: 2201 wrote: How do you go about finding the right style of music? I’ve tried to do this on Soundcloud but I struggle to find the right genre of music.
Hello Rob :);
I found that Searching for ‘Genres’ on Soundcloud wasn’t much good at all;
So I found that ‘Joining Groups’ gave me an Opportunity to Peruse (at my Leisure) Artists that I have never heard of; this has been Amazing for Dubstep (through the Massive Group); but for other Genres too; the ‘House’ group has over 60,000 Tracks; the ‘EDM – You Sexy Beat’ Group has over 47,000 Tracks; there are 2 Groups called ‘House Nation’ with 80,000 Tracks between them – but; if you just Search or Explore Groups (underneath the Log Out Button) you can take your pick – I don’t Join Groups unless they have at least 30,000 Tracks Available (showing their Popularity); and to be Honest; I Only listen to Tracks that are Downloadable; this is how I Build my Collection πEmma Partnow

http://soundcloud.com/deejaypaddy/martin-solveig-ft-dragonetteOT: google the BPM and listen to the song on youtube to find the vocals downbeat if you don’t own the original. I prefer doing it in ableton in case there are any bridges to fix or drifts to warp, then grid it.
Hello Paddy :);
Great Remix :);
However; you have Cut the Vocal Right Up; as I have had to do; you have done it Very Well; but you haven’t used the Full Acapella (I have all the Stems too); but I was Collaborating with a man in Miami; and I was trying to get everything to Fit with his Drum Track and Bassline; and it was Not actually Possible; I should have just continued and Wrote my Own Backing Track (as you did); and then Everything would have been Cool :cool:;July 1, 2011 at 4:56 pm in reply to: So who DOESN'T use Traktor, Serato or Virtual DJ as their mixing software? #1000763Emma Partnow

What I was doing on Saturday was Experimenting outside of Presets;
I Turned Off Everything except the Stutter and the High Pass Filter; selected Palindrome Looping (so at the End of the Loop it comes Back again – but without Reversing); Loaded an Acapella; then a Drum loop; then a Full Track; and found that by just pressing C2 and D (and using a Rhythm Method of Tapping); I was able to Create some Unbelievable Effects; it is Important to Select ‘Gesture Length’ as One Bar; and ‘Release Mode’ as On Grid (with the Method I was using); however; the amount of Effects Available from just pressing One Key and Selecting Different ‘Gesture Lengths’; ‘Release Modes’; ‘Grid Positions’; (Obviously Presets too); Plus Turning On and Off Effects; and Changing the Gestures (Sliders) on these Effects; including the fact that Each of Our Keys (up to 81 I think); make the Sounds from this VST Close To Infinite; with ‘Our Own Creativity’ this seems like a ‘Must Buy’ to me π πEmma Partnow

Yes; Without A Doubt; Flangers and Filters between Every Transition shows a ‘Lack Of Skill’ or ‘Confidence’ in Mixing; as the Effects are used to ‘Cover Up’ the Inabilty to Mix Seamlesslessly; which can be Completely Okay at Home; but in front of a Live Audience; I Feel that even the Most Inexperienced of ‘Customers’ would realise what was going on;
In my Area Customers can be Very Judgemental (which makes us Better at what we do); and will even ‘Boo’ if they get Bored or realise they have a ‘JukeBox with Fingers’ :oops:;
However; we all have to Start Somewhere; and some Polite Encouragement can Help Us All :);Emma Partnow
