I Wasn’t in the Studio at the Radio Show if that’s what you mean my Friend;
But; I Do Record my Sets ‘Live’; from Start To Finish Without Stopping; I have been doing this for 10 Years and am just ‘Top Notch’ as the Host Described Me;
I Practice and Practice until my Hands and my Head Hurts if Necessary; but Due to my Health Condition I am not able to Leave this Bedroom; but that Doesn’t make me a Charlatan; I do ‘What I Can With What I Have’ 🙂Emma Partnow

Its cruel but true. I also went to some clubs and I never had any girls to dance with due to my frequent social anxiety but I would just find a corner and stand and listen to the music, I wanted to be a part of something or be involved someway.
That is a Nice Reason to become involved NAT :);
And I have No Problem Whatsoever in you Forcing others to Listen to what ‘You Like’; because it is the ‘Name Of The Game’; I Understand Lots will have Differing Views; but I can’t see How we can Become Individuals by saying ‘Yes Sir – No Sir’; I also Understand your Social Anxiety as I Suffer too; but when you get up in that DJ Box you will Feel ‘Safe’ like you used to when you used to stand in a Corner; I Wish You Well 🙂Emma Partnow

Ok, so I’m at a bar tonight with a few friends and there’s a DJ who comes on at 11 p.m. I have now come to the point where I listen to music COMPLETELY different if there is a DJ. This guy/girl is in command of the music so I’m very critical of how they mix songs together and manage the dance floor. As for tonight, the majority of the music is hip-hop until about 2 a.m. Guess what kind of music I DONT listen to :confused:.
Anyways, even with my lack of knowledge of hip-hop, I had a good time. Here is my biggest worry: The second the DJ switched to EDM, I knew EVERY song he played. Mind you, it was the mainstream house music you would expect (The Island – Steve Angello, Party Rock Remix – LMFAO, Awooga – Calvin Harris, and a few others I cant remember at the moment). The problem is the songs I heard compose about 1/5 of my current DJ library (I’m still building it up; I’m at about 60 tracks). The reason I started freakin out is because I started thinking “what seperates me from this guy. He has the same tracks you have as of right now, possibly more. How do you plan to distinguish yourself from this guy”.
Here’s what I think: What’s more important than the tracks you have is how you mix them. The DJ tonight did a pretty good job mixing them but I would have done it differently. Also, if the EDM set was longer, i’m sure my current analysis would have changed completely. I think what I need to take from this night is to learn to trust my musical instincts, mix songs that i “feel” should go good together, and use the crowd as a gauge on how I’m doing.
Again….really drunk. Just using this post to reflect on tonight.
I haven’t been able to go out to a Club or anything for some time Mike; so for me Personally; this gives me the Opportunity to Express Myself in ways that are Far from Mainstream; in a 1 Hour Set I will play No More than 2 ‘Classics’ (or Tracks that Everybody who has ever been in a Club can Identify with); however; I look for ‘Obscure’ Remixes of these Tracks; and so although they may be ‘Classics’; there are Large Elements to them that are still Exciting; in a 4 hour Set these ‘Classics’ ‘May’ jump to 8 (out of 60+); but in a Recent 2 Hour Set I didn’t play One Single Classic; I am Not Suggesting for a Moment that you Don’t Go Out :); but it is ‘Possible’ over a Period Of Time that you will Feel More Able (Comfortable) in Experimenting with Your Taste; as in the Late ’80’s – Early ’90’s the ‘Only’ Chance people had of Hearing Dance Tracks was through DJ’s playing them in Clubs; and of course they were not all playing ‘Classics’ then; they were Experimenting with White Labels;
It is True that if we were All to be given the Same Tracks we would Mix Them ‘Differently’; but as Phil said; it is the Tracks Inbetween the ‘Classics’ that ‘Makes Us Stand Out From Other DJ’s’;
So; although you were Drunk when you wrote your Post :); it is just a Case of ‘Growth’; I would Personally ‘Get Out’ of the 2010/2011 Period (apart from your Remixed Classics); as you will be ‘Clashing’ with other DJ’s Sets (as you noticed the other night); and Look Back into the ‘Vast Catalogue’ of Dance Music for Tracks that ‘Make You Move’; and will also ‘Fill Your Floor’ as they Most Likely Did when they were Originally Released 🙂Emma Partnow
MemberYes; Jem :);
In my Case it has become an Addiction/Compulsion in the past; but now; like Rob; I spend an Average of £40 per Month; (This is Why I Don’t have a Pension :oops:); however; I do ‘Fill Up My Box’ as it were; from Free Soundcloud Downloads; like today I found a New Remix of a Track that is 20 Years Old; but it is Fabulous; and last night I found a New Remix of a ‘Specials’ Track (from the Ska Days of the Late ’70’s?); and that is Very Interesting too 🙂Emma Partnow
Membermailman, post: 3368 wrote: Thanks for the tips guys, unfortunately my sampling rate is already set at 44100 Hz and I can’t seem to change it anyway…any other ideas?
Hello Mailman :);
Although the Standard Sample Rate for Traktor is 44100; some Sound Cards Need to be Set At A 48,000 Sample Rate in order to Lose the Tempo challenge you have; so that is my Suggestion for you to try next;
And; in order to do this; you need to go to your Preferences Button (which is usually under ‘Edit’); but it will be Within One of the Drop Down Lists; and you Will (when you see 41,000) be able to Change it to 48,000 🙂Emma Partnow

Hello Shard :);
I spent Many Many Hours listening to DJ Mixes before I decided that I wanted to buy my Own Equipment; and Practice the ‘Techniques’ that I had Heard and Loved over the Years; and so I have an idea what you are looking for;
I see you are already a Member of SoundCloud;
I Highly Recommend that you follow –

As they have Mixes from Famous DJ’s going back from last week to 20 Years ago; a Lot of their Mixes are Free to Download; (and I still Download and Learn myself); and I think this is where you will get a Lot Of Inspiration 🙂Emma Partnow
MemberThanks for this tip, I’ll have a look at this website. If you want a good trick to search a website that doesn’t have a good search engine, just use Google: when you type “site:acapellas4u.co.uk song name here” without the quotes, it uses Google’s search engine to browse the website.
That’s a Very Cool Trick :cool:;
I didn’t know you could do that; Thank You 🙂Emma Partnow
Membermr stifffy, post: 3378 wrote: theres only 4 per deck emma :p but all are configable to each deck meaning you can in fact have 16, 12, 8 or 4 sample decks at once, most people ive seen use A and B as normal decks then c and d as samples 🙂
Oh Sorry :);
But 16 ! that sounds Much Better than 10 😎
(I thought 10 in All; but I couldn’t have been looking properly :))Emma Partnow
MemberXeva, post: 3353 wrote: that sounds legit. since we both have fl studio and ableton, we can just both open each others files in its respective DAW and go from there. I also have a online ftp we can use to store files. PM me if you have any ideas you want to share sometime; I’m down to work together.
I have left you a Message on your YouTube Profile my Friend 🙂

Will deff. take full advantage of that feature once I get my new mac and reinstall Ableton.
Yes; when you get your Licence up and running again Mike; just Right Click ‘Audio Track’ (or whatever you may have Renamed it to); then Select ‘Edit Info Text’ and a White Box with the Track Name will Pop Up – to your Bottom Left; where the Help Details usually sit – (with it seems an Infinite amount of Room to Write In); and you can Enter Any Relevant Details you Choose 🙂
mr_john, post: 3357 wrote: i do this too much actually… I kinda miss just listening to the music and have to stop myself, it’s becoming like work. I use key word comments in itunes to filter them into different smart playlists and go from there. I actually had no idea ableton had anything like that haha 😳 learn something knew everday I guess.
I am also Very Much like that John :); I Often listen to Dubstep For Pleasure (although I have already Examined Each Track And Recorded All Information In Detail :)); because nobody will Allow me to Play It on the Radio (Yet);

MemberRob Francis, post: 3377 wrote: There are a few big name female DJs in the UK such as Annie Mac, Lisa Lashes, Lottie, Lisa Loud, DJ Heaven. I would love it if there were more, most of us blokes are too boring!
Ignore their small mindedness Emma. If you’re on the radio maybe have a few digs back at them?
I know Lisa Lashes and Lisa Loud; and they have been DJ’ing Successfully for 20 Years at least; so it Shouldn’t really be a Rarity in this Country; although I suppose if the Female DJ Community is Less Than 1% (Say); then that is Quite A Small Number; but still Not Unknown like an Undiscovered Species or something :);
One thing that did Help last night; and actually made me Laugh almost Uncontrollably; was when the Host tried to Mix Trance into my Set and TrainWrecked Twice !! He actually had to ‘Pull Out’ in the end and wait for my Set to Finish before he Began his Own; so I Suppose that is like having a ‘Dig’ in a way 🙂Emma Partnow
MemberHello Mike :);
Yes this is an Authorative and Exhaustive Process that is Very Important not only in just ‘Learning Our Tracks’; but Breaking them down into ‘Useful Assets’; which is of course what they are to us as DJ’s; (unless the Tracks are just for Personal Use as I say);
A Journal is Excellent (and what I always Used as my Template to a Tracks Construction); now with Digital Software ‘some’ Programmes give us the Facility to do this within the Tracks ‘Properties/Meta-Data?’; in Ableton we have a Pop Up Box where we have Virtually a NotePad to Record (through the Written Word) Anything we Feel is Significant; and as like you; the Specific Elements within the Track that are Vital; such as;
How Long the Intro and Outro is
How Many Breaks there are; Where they are; and What they Compose Of
Where the Peaks Are; How Many; and of What Type (Drum/Bass/Melody/Vocals)
Whether the Track is an Opener; a Middle Type Track; or the Peak Of The Set
Any Significant Loops
And; what Tracks the Particular Track Mixes Well withIt seems a Lot when we Write It Out; but it Saves Us So Much Time 🙂
