MemberAfter a few Years of Succesful Club DJ’ing with Pioneer CDDJ’s; 2 Cassette Decks and a 2 CD Drive’s my Husband said to me that it was ‘About Time You Had A Kid’; and it wasn’t long afterwards until that happened; and so I became a Mother; (and my Husband put All my DJ Equipment in the Attic – 12 Machines in Total); but after a Couple Of Horrific Incidents and a Number Of Years Recuperating; I found myself Alone with just a Laptop;
I had Ableton Live but had no way of figuring out How I could use it to DJ; so I investigated ‘other’ DJ Software such as VDJ; Traktor; and Deckadance; these were Cool; but having been DJ’ing with up to 6 Decks when I was 15; I needed ‘More’; and so after 12 Months of Remixing I decided it was Time for me to Learn How to DJ Live with Ableton;
It took me a good 4 months in all to Understand it; but now I do;
Of Course; ‘All I Wanted’ were my Pioneer Decks back; but due to my Physical Health I had to Accept that it wasn’t Possible for me to get up into the Attic to get them;
And so; Due to Circumstance; I found myself DJ’ing Digitally; and I ‘Enjoy’ it; but Greatly Miss the Tactile Feelings of ‘Hands On Manipulation Of Audio’; maybe a DJ Controller would ‘Bring Some Of Those Feelings Back’; but for the Foreseeable Future I Could Never Afford One;Emma Partnow
MemberHello Christopher 🙂
I joined Reverbnation a couple of years ago; and although I still have a Profile there; the Fact that I don’t have any of my Own Music meant that it wasn’t possible for me to upload any Tracks (even Remixes); and so although it looked Great; I just Dumped it; – things May Well of got Better – but are the Press kits for DJ’s ?
I have been using the SoundCloud Free service for a while and have No Complaints whatsoever; I have only had One 30 Minute Set out of 11 Hours of Sets Uploaded that has been Removed Due to Copyright;
The Paid Service only seems to give you 4 Hours of Upload Time (according to their Help File); however; with a Paid Subscription there are Many More Facilities available such as ‘Knowing’ who is Downloading your Tracks/Sets; and also a ‘Drop Box’ where you can Store (or be Sent) up to 2GB of Data (which sounds Cool to me);
That is All I know for now I am Sorry 🙂Emma Partnow
MemberOkay; Thank You Sam :);
I will have a look at the Izotope Forums before I contact their Technical Support Department (as I would have to do that through a 3rd Party as I am Unable to Speak Unfortunately); and then I will have a Good Look at their Guide if I am not Successful; one thing I have been ‘Watchful’ of is the CPU; as I (as you know) have a Percentage Meter in Ableton; and this Doesn’t Increase when I press a key in ‘Stutter-Edit’;
I was Considering Latency; but I don’t want to mess about with my Settings just for a VST (though an Expensive One);
But; Thank You for your Reply; I will make some More Investigations into it 🙂Emma Partnow

In their minds, the only thing a female is good for is being a groupie. Heaven forbid one calls herself a DJ. I guarantee some listeners picked up on the same thing you did. Ignore idiots like this and keep doing what you do. 😉
Thank You my Friend :);
This Forum is One place where I ‘Feel Accepted’; although Naturally there are some threads I can’t get involved with as I don’t have the Knowledge or Experience in using the Equipment; but (although I Accept Dubstep is an ‘Aquired Taste’) I have been listening to some of my Dubstep Mixes today; and it has Lifted Me Right Up; and I Feel I could Compete on Most Any Level (in any Genre) 🙂Emma Partnow

If you are the DJ to ‘Kick Off’ the Night (maybe Early Evening); then as has been mentioned; a Track that would
‘Allow People To Continue To Mingle And Chat’ would be Best; but this doesn’t mean that it has to be ‘Boring’ as you could be Building Your Whole Set On This Opening (as I would); like ‘Telling A Story’; with your Opening Track you could get Everyone’s Attention and Make Them Stop Talking 🙂
However; if it was an Evening or Event where People Have Already Gathered; and are ‘Waiting For Something to Happen’; then an Uplifting Track (within the Expected Genre) would be the Key;
I do a Number of Radio Shows; and if I don’t ‘Grab The Audiences Attention Immediately’; they will just ‘Switch Off’;
And so; although it is ‘Recommended’ to Hold Back ‘Killer Tracks’ until Later In The Set; in my case I will ‘Always’ Open With A Track that Will Make The Audience Stick With Me; rather than just ‘Turning The Dial’ to Another Station;
I Don’t Think Any Of Us Will Become a Carl Cox etc – If We Don’t Break The Mould And Do Something ‘Different’ 😎Emma Partnow
MemberTheShard, post: 3697 wrote: Anyone know how to make a crowd pleasing opening?
There are Many Presumptions in this thread since you asked your Initial Question; and I am beginning to get confused myself; I don’t know about you;
Would it be Possible to Clarify ‘When’ your Opening would be ?
Meaning;
Following Another DJ
At the Beginning of an Evening with ‘Few’ Customers
An Opening Event where your Set is the One the Crowd have come to Listen To
A Set where you ‘Need’ to Grab The Audiences Attention Immediately’
These Answers would Narrow things down a little 🙂Emma Partnow
MemberThis is Awful Rob; I am So Sorry :(;
It is a Long Time ago now; but did your Girlfriend keep the Email saying you Won the Competition ?
That would have been Something to have as a Fantastic Image; had she done so :);
But; I am So Pleased you Looked After Her After Her Operation; that is Lovely 😎Emma Partnow
MemberHello Jeremy :);
There is No Way I can even Get Close to ‘Doing Your Post What it Deserves’;
But; with Our Man Phil Morse popping up all over the Internet :)); these Articles by him you may or may not have read; as I can see you have already read the Digital DJ Tips Article;
However; No Research is too Much Research; so i Hope that you find Something (even if it is One Sentence) to Help 🙂How To Launch A Club Night: Part 1

Oh Yes; Definitely 🙂
The Minute you Log On you have Music playing in the Background (from a DJ Show); and you can Change this to something else if you please; and of course there are going to be Many Opportunities to Contact People and send MP3’s; a little what I used to do on MySpace (which worked Really Well – I asked if they wanted the MP3 first of course:)); but to have people like Green Velvet; Danny Rampling; Nick Warren; and Pete Tong following you was Cool; it is a Shame that MySpace basically ended up like an Advertisement Board in your Local Supermarket 🙁Emma Partnow
MemberHaroon K, post: 3790 wrote: I think John did a fabric cd, not heard it myself yet. Interestingly I stayed in the same hotel as John once – I got in the same elevator (no I didn’t follow him in he was already in there when it opened on my floor), I tried desperately to come up with something cool to say to him, but came to the conclusion there is nothing you could say without coming off looking lame, so I stayed shtum 🙁
That is a Shame my Friend :(;
I can Understand your Situation Completely though; as some people just get So Big there is Nothing you can say to them; it is Interesting though because although he Must have had Masses of Friends; apart from his Family he could have been Quite a Lonely Man because of his Fame;
I would Love to hear that Fabric CD 😎Emma Partnow

But is is Easy just to Delete the Profile if it not for us;

MemberHaroon K, post: 3777 wrote: I’m also a big fan of Jeff Mills – I think I read/heard somewhere once that John Peel said he’d love to be able to DJ like Mils before he dies and be able to play guitar like someone who I’ve forgotten name of, I think John Squire.
Any way, heres a fav clip of Mills from his legendary set at Liquid Rooms Tokyo
What a Genius and Magician he is !!!
I just loved seeing those TEAC/Revox Reel To Reel Decks he had there 🙂 :);
I never heard John Peel Actually DJ before he Died; just his Radio Show; it would have been Interesting to hear how he could DJ after All Those Years spent as a Pioneer of Music 😎Emma Partnow
MemberThat is a Fabulous Video you have within the Article Phil :);
But it looks So Traumatic that once the Volume has been Turned Right Up (in the 2006 Version); that the Original Peaks are Lost :(;
This is another Subject maybe; but is there No Way of getting that Original Crispness back ?Emma Partnow
