you made a point because I guess I’m playing more “underground” tracks that are actually not signed…
In fact, if it would be only me, I wouldn’t care selling the CD and would give it for free :pI don’t want to make money but just want to to it legally, just once 🙂
I think you’re right I should ask each artist I want to play in this compil. I shall choose not big artists so it would be a promotion for them too ! It’s all about negociation and maybe … sign a paper together to seal the agreement. Just in case 😉
Hello Kazes 🙂
Yes; that is a Great Route to Follow;
I just send the Artist a Message on Soundcloud and ask them if they would Allow me to Promote Their Material on my Radio Show (in your Case On Your Compilation CD); and Every One Of Them Have Agreed; and have also gone on to then sending me Private and Exclusive Tracks (which is Really Great);
And to be Truthful; in a few of my DJ Sets that I have Not Aired Live; I have used Artists Material Without Their Permission (the Free Downloaded Tracks); but then the Actual Artists come onto the DJ Set and Thank Me for Using their Material; which is Awesome :);
And in my Most Recent Remix; again I didn’t ask for the Artists Permission; but he Heard it; and said he thought it was Brilliant; and I am now Working with him Personally on Collaborative Projects 😎
But if you are going to make any Money from your CD; then Signing a Paper With The Artist Would Be Perfect 🙂August 18, 2011 at 3:54 pm in reply to: How to proceed to sell your own CD mixed compilation ? #5980Emma Partnow

This is my first post, I searched for the same kind of topic but didn’t find one, so if there is please excuse me and send me the link, thanks !
I was wondering how do you do to make and sell your own CD mixed compilation ? I mean about the rights of course, do you need to work with a label that owns the rights ?
I have a website http://www.micromix.fr where I post my (and a friend of mine’s) mixtapes. We don’t do this for money and we’ll keep it like this but I think we’d be glad one day maybe to have a nice physic CD, you know a good selection that we mixed carefully, and with a beautiful cover, etc. Do it legally to eventually promote and pay the artists would be a good thank you reward… I already buy as much CDs and mp3 as I can when I love these artists but I’d like to be able one day to sell at least one CD with all these artists that I like to play !
anyway, thanks for your replies 🙂
cheers !PS : this is the first time I see such a well done forum ! 😀 Everything with the UX is well thought ! what’s the name of this forum engine please ?
Hello Kazes 🙂
Not All Signed Tracks are Brilliant;
There are Many (that I have found) on Soundcloud that are Free for Download; and are Excellent; and Every Artist who has put their Material Up for Free Download has Always been Willing for me to Distribute their Material (as long as I give them a Mention; which I Obviously do in the Track Listing);
For a CD Compilation I would be looking along this Route; as although it would be Great to Sell your CD on the Back of Big Names (making the CD More Saleable I Presume); you will Not get say 20 Record Companies to Agree to their Material being Published Elsewhere Unless you are a Massive DJ Name (Unfortunately);
There are Many Big Names coming out of Soundcloud (who are Now Signed); who Previously allowed their Tracks to be Downloaded for Free; and it is these Tracks (if Any Good); I would be looking at 😎Emma Partnow

Frendzy – Cant stop, as it was totally misspelt AND miss-named on the compilation record on which it was popular..
It took a bit of detective work to find it..Here is the version off the Deconstruction compilation album..

MemberBenny Mackney, post: 5905 wrote: I don’t use templates. I’ve been saving some of my better effects racks and such, that’s the extent of my pre-done stuff though. I usually just load up a MIDI track with a synth of some sort, a MIDI track for drums and if I’m doing a remix, audio tracks for the stems/acapella. Then I just screw around with it all, slice the vocals etc. until I start producing clips I like, then I arrange the clips so the song sorta exists top-to-bottom is session view. After that, I start recording from session view and “play the song” (pad controllers make this fairly easy), then tweak in arrangement view.
This is Cool Benny; as ‘Often/Occasionally’ when I am doing Remixes I have the Stems also;
But the Question in this Topic was regarding Creating A Track From Scratch (from a Composers Point Of View);
However; some people like Myself; and Beginners; ‘Need’ a ‘Structure’ that ‘Feels Comforting and Enabling’; something that they can ‘Open And Begin Work Immediately’; without the Need to ‘Set Up An Arrangement’
(Ultimately Slowing Down Their Creativity); an ‘Arrangement’ that even you will ‘Need’ to Create During Your Remix my Friend; as I Know Full Well that Remixes have to be ‘Arranged’ at Some Point :);I Also have Many Instrument Racks Saved As Templates; and it is a Fantastic way of Working;
However; as We ‘Always’ End Up in the Arrangement View (Once Recording From the Session View Begins); I Always Start in Arrangement View; as it Cuts Down On Time; and I can ‘Always See What Is Happening’;Emma Partnow

You will be Absolutely Amazed the next time you get Nexus up and start Changing Some Of The Notes in the Arpeggiator John; it becomes like an ‘Instrument’ then; rather than just a Pre-programmed Loop Machine 😎

MemberD-Jam, post: 5829 wrote: Thinking about the Angello thing, I was wondering with these bigger shows DJs are making, when do you personally think it’s ok for a DJ to have pre-arranged stuff and thus mime a bit because of a visual show?
Or do you think it’s never ok and “to hell with” the visual shows, dancers, etc…just keep it simple and “keep it real”?
I think about Bad Boy Bill when he made his troupe of female dancers, the many DJs investing in promo videos to play at shows, and even Tiesto with his massive stadium show. Do you think that more of these Angello incidents will happen and should be allowed in the name of stage presence?
Or are we further pulling DJs away from being DJs and instead now making them totally the same as let’s say Katy Perry and Britney Spears?
I don’t think it is Ever ‘Okay To Mime’ as a DJ;
On the 10 Minute Video a Member put up where the Girl showed her Backside; I saw Angello flipping through a CD Holder; and even pull a CD out; but Not At Any Point did he attempt to ‘Use’ this CD; so Regardless of the Light/Firework Show at the other Gig; I didn’t see him ‘DJ’ing’ in that 10 Minute Video either;
Of course he spent a Lot of time Standing On The Desks; Kissing the Camera; and Fiddling with his Ponytail; but the ‘Only’ time I saw him Touch The Decks was to turn the Music down to Nil; 3 Times in 2 Minutes :confused:
If you are Freddie Mercury Fair Enough; Do Your Stage Show; but if a Drummer in a Band put on a Pre-Recorded Tape and got up on Stage jumping around and ‘Jesus Waving’; I think a few people would have something to say;
But; I think he is getting Too Much ‘Undeserved Exposure’ on this Forum;
