Though to complete school I did work with several teenagers who were emotionally disturbed, had a history of enduring sexual abuse, and/or had intellectual disabilities of some kind.
During my time with them, I helped them as a job coach at a local sandwich shop. Higher-functioning or lower-functioning…it didn’t matter; each person was assigned a task and had a job coach there with them in case they needed help. I tended to work more with the autistic and/or mentally retarded teenagers when they were on the register and had to count out change and perform basic math and computer operation skills.
It was a great program. As a layman, it’s easy to pity people like them. “Oh, that poor retarded kid can’t do anything for himself.” “Oh no, that girl was raped a long time ago and now she can’t trust men. Poor her.”
The program existed to shatter these easy conclusions and show everyone that these kids could do something meaningful. And it was great for them too; they learned to trust in others again, were reinforced the math and social skills that they aren’t acquiring fast enough in school, gained friends, boosted their confidence in themselves and really just worked to become the best that they themselves could be. It’s really inspiring, working with those who have mental health issues. Especially when you know that it’s making a difference.
That’s my experience with mental health, in a nutshell.
This is Wonderful; and Exactly what I Feel is Needed to Help Others ‘Less Fortunate’ than Ourselves;
You Must have given these People a Great Sense Of ‘Worth’ in their Lives when you were working with them; and I Wish there was More Of This Available to More People;
There is Much ‘Stigma’ Associated with Mental Disabilities; I just Hope that Over Time these people who are ‘Ignorant’; learn to become ‘More Tolerant’;
Gaining Friends; Boosting my Confidence; and Becoming The Best That I Can Be; are Dreams Of Mine;
But has Always Felt like a ‘Miracle’ would have to occur for me to ‘Achieve Them’ 🙁Emma Partnow

I have a couple of sort of ‘Teaching’ Ableton threads going in the ‘DJ Software’ Section Dave; but if those Tutorials are Way Too Easy for you I can Answer any Other Questions you may have; or you may be able to Teach Me More 🙂

I will admit I had some fun times hanging out in stores, but often times my recent memories were more of frantically rushing to a store on a Thursday or Friday night to try and get some of the limited copies of things before they ran out. Even the social aspect I felt wasn’t there, as many were rushing in, buying stuff, and then rushing off to play whatever gigs they have later.
I’ll admit I like online shopping…my comfort and convenience. Some though have suggested stores with kiosks or USB tablets where people can hang, have a coffee, chat, listen to stuff, hear suggestions from employees (who are also DJs), have guest DJs come in to play, and thus make it a hangout/shop for DJs to buy digital music.
Do you prefer the live in-person aspect of the classic record store? Or shopping online in your comfortable spot?
I Definitely Miss the Death Of The Record Store (or at least the Independant Stores);
The Memories of the Days and Days I spent in this particular store; where DJ’s would Mingle (but Unfortunately Not Communicate – All About The Business You See); and the ‘Rush’ to the Counter to Buy The Track the Owner had just put on the Deck; brings back a Warmth that is Not Existant Any More With The Online Store;
The Online Stores are Magical Of Course as they have ‘Just About Everything’; and of course it is Wonderful to be able to Peruse now at Our Leisure (with a cup of coffee or whatever) in Our Own Home (in Our Pyjamas); and be able to find that Absolute Gem for that Particular Set; that is Cool;
But; a Hangout (sort of) for DJ’s where a Community Aspect could be Accomplished would be Great 🙂Emma Partnow

MemberGreat to hear you are having an Amazing Time Mike 😎
My Favourite Vacation is Boating on the Norfolk Broads/The Thames/The Fens; in England;
We have done this maybe 9 times in my Life; and it has been the Most Pleasant Experience (of a Vacation) I have Ever had (we Hire a 40 Foot Pleasure Boat – Not a Canal Boat); and move along at 4 MPH for 1 or 2 Weeks;
The Rivers/Canals (and the Countryside) in the United Kingdom are Absolutely Gorgeous 🙂Emma Partnow

I just think if someone is going to pay me thousands to perform…then I’d perform. It’s one thing to do the pyro show and have a mix ready-made, or even some wild edit mix to toss on as an intro…but another to just mime the normal set. He should know DJs will see this and call him out on it.
Plus when you take shortcuts like that, you get sloppy. Suddenly one day he’ll want to play normally and have trouble because he’s been slacking too much.
Getting into that level of this industry means you’re better than the rest. To simply make it more about who has more money to use in marketing is what drives many out of EDM and such. It’s what makes many look down on it because the talent aspect has been removed.
I see from his Discography that 70% of his Productions have been with other people; and 50%+ of his Material has been Released on his Own Label; so; if you bring his Co-Producers such as Laidback Luke and Eric Pridz into the Equation; I am beginning to Question his Production Skills also; having now Dismissed him as a DJ;
I have watched Pete Tong and Carl Cox a number of times from Tommorowland and other Festivals; and they Deserve to still be Working after 30 Years (Carl Cox); because they are Still Working on their Sets; and even though Carl Cox and Adam Beyer Both had a Train Wreck at Tomorrowland; I would Much Rather hear that than a Barbie Doll Set that has been Pre-Recorded;
I would Love to see Angello try and pull this Stunt off in a Small Club with 200 People (who had Paid £90 for the Priviledge of the Exclusivity); as they would Tear Him ApartEmma Partnow

Member10 Years ago it cost about £400 to set up your Own Label and Publishing Company;
And although I Agree Most (if you were to go this Route) Music Is Digital now; a Number of Record Companies Will Not Accept your Submission ‘Unless’ it is on CD;
And I Wasn’t For A Moment Suggesting that you Use ‘Remixes’ for your CD;
I would ‘Only Use’ Original Material; but as I said; a Great Number of these are Excellent;
And I wouldn’t For A moment Suggest Using a ‘Beyonce’ Remix; Who Would Want One Of Those Anyway 😮 -
