Count the beats in your head, tap the 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4 using your feet and you’ll soon be able to judge timing naturally. In the majority of EDM songs you’ll hear tiny things happening in the music every 4 or 8 bars, these are typically where you’d do the big transitions in a mix, e.g. a vocal drop or switching the bass from one track to another. Once you get used to the rhythm of the songs you will hear the drop points coming even if there aren’t any distinguishable changes happening in that particular song. I guess it’s a case of re-wiring your brain to listen to music in a different way.

For a quick fix, use the ‘time remaining’/ ‘time elapsed’ counter, practice the mix until you get it sounding good and then remember where to drop it in using the counter.

I was in the same boat as you when I was 15. I took a part-time job as a pot washer and saved up my money to buy a pair of second hand belt drive Sound Labs and a cheapo mixer. I then invested every penny I earnt into buying vinyl. Once I was confident enough I was lucky to find a few gigs locally, they typically consisted of me turning up to the local social club and pressing play when the resident DJ went to the toilet but it was still good experience. This was enough to show my parents that I was serious about it so I drew up a basic business plan and asked them for a loan to buy some 1210s, some speakers and some lights. I set up my first mobile disco when I was 17 and had paid back everything I’d borrowed before I turned 18.

tl;dr Show them you’re serious, write a business plan.
