Memberits fun being a yank in the uk cos i look nothing like the other dj’s in my town… baggy jeans and t-shirt or collard shirt (black or grey) with a loose tie (gotta look fly) anyone of my prized nike dunks, a black wristband usually for wiping sweat off my brow.. and my fitted steelers hat (luv my black n gold… girls love the hat as well)
in the end i gotta look good but still be me.. thank god for shopping online… id hate myself for lookin “european”
like my man jay-z said… your jeans are too tight and your colors too brightdurtyjerzy609
Membergotta fly now (theme from rocky)… kills it every time

Memberi gotta admit.. i have mixed feelings about your post…. a good dj can do his job with anything… and while harmonic mixing is a treat to the ears… back in the day.. before serato and traktor and other dvs/laptop systems… you had to build a crate and work with what you had… no wave forms no cues no loops no sync button… i can only hope that the days of the “auto dj” will soon die because it is a starting to kill the art so many worked so hard to build and get recognised… my suggestion watch the movie “scratch” by doug pray so you can get a idea of where the art came from and what had to happen for it to grow… im glad you have found the love, but it hurts to know some out there cant “dj” without modern technology

Memberi had a similar ruff expierience… im an american and moved to the uk… i got a residency at a pub and they wanted me on the mic…which wasnt my forte… so i did my best.. i made a name drop i can play from seratos sp6 and the rest i did freestyle…drink specials upcoming events and the like… but hen parties were awesome.. it gives u an excuse to be a flirt and maybe get sum digits… it didnt hurt that i have my thick new jersey/philly accent… and being they all wanted the same songs over n over.. if someone requested party rock anthem for the 1000th time… id say if you want to hear it again it’ll cost you a jager bomb… gettin on the mic can be fun.. and essential in sum venues…. but have fun with it and you might get a lil extra bonus at the end of the night 😉

Memberdid you know all DJ’s are minted? Do people have any idea how much a single splurge on beatport or itunes can add up to

Membermost fashion shows and fashion lines have a theme… so try to match the theme and feel.. when dj’n events like this (and i’ve done my fair share) its important to remeber youre not on stage to rock a party… your there as a audio backdrop to add to the show… so dont worry about tricks n scratches or effects or mixes with dramatic drops…
also… instrumentals are vital… vocals will clash with the shows mc.. whos there to present the event and sell the product… so if they request something special do your best to find an instrumental version…
ask ALOT of questions prior to the event to discuss the line up and timeline.. make a cheat sheet if you need so you can make sur ethe soundtrack works with the action on stage… use loops if you have to to extend sections of tracks that are pertinant to the show… for example… i did a fashion show a few years back… and i looped the intro to rihannas “dysterbia” because the vocal fit the show…but the rest of the track would have ruined the “soundscape”
check your ego at the door…. its not about you

Membernoooooooo….never max the gain… i would start at half gain (under 0db) on the rane, then adjust yours accordingly… you need to leave room on your NS6 for effects (if you use them) as they will distort if you max the gain too high…. i would set the channel fader at max, set the rane gain (that rhymed) at half, then check your levels on your NS6 and work from there

Memberi like to think the moment i became a dj is when i entered my first battle…against some of the heavy hitters in my city… and after being told id get slayed and crushed… took second place.. but i won the crowd vote..just not the judges vote.. so from that moment on… i think i earned my title DJ
durtyjerzy609
Memberyou wont need the rane crossfader at all except to make sure it on the channel youve selected to imput the NS6 into
durtyjerzy609
Memberyou can go from the outs on ur NS6 to a LINE in on the Rane 68… the channel you put your NS6 thru… will however be effected by the EQ’s, gain, and faders… think of it as like playin an ipod thru a hi-fi… same thing…but tbh that Rane 68 is a sexy beast and if u have scratch live on your laptop and sum control vinyls… youre sure to have a good time and have sum fun

Memberit all depends on your style of music.. but seriously..keep the A-90… nothing beats a hard synth… the most important thing is to arrange everything in a way that workd easy for you… if all that was mine.. id be using the decks to record samples..the synths and midi controllers for base lines etc and the apc 40 for moth arrangement and drum lines… you have mountain of stuff there that can all be put to sum amazing work
