I’ve seen too many DJ’s who act like a filter sweep is a feat of incredible physical difficulty. You’re turning a knob dude, not playing a violin solo at Carnegie Hall. Does anybody else feel this way?
since when did turning a knob make a dj better? i have a mate that filters and echos almost every mix and tbh i hate it but he spins electro house and i spin what he calls “urban” so hiphop funk soul dancehall dubstep more hiphop and the only effet i use is a loop roll in some hiphop on the snares for a lil extra fill … seriously guys havent you ever heard your mom say…..
play with your knob too much and it will fall off

Memberthe first thing i was taught about dj’in out was this….
find one smoking hot chic on the floor and make her dance all night, if she leaves the floor make sure you keep her head noddin, if she looks bored… play something obscure that will make her take notice, then real her back to the floor
youre the dj… your kinda like a demi-god as you control the flow of the night.. if things look a lil lazy drop something ruff n rugged that will pop the roof. two tracks i always have readu if i need em are fatman scoop: be faithful or house of pain: jump around dont be scared to play something that gets rowdy as thats what needed sumtimes to get the crowd back.

Memberi would ask that he puts his tracks on a USB or portable hard drive then offer him the opening hour or so. make sure you lay down the rules for your equipments use and make sure he knows what does what. also make sure you speak to his parents and let them know your equipment isnt cheap, and should he damage it, youll be speaking to them about damages. he breaks it they buy it.

Membermapping makes your equipment work for you, its basically telling you software what button, knob, fader does what. this way it makes ur life easier. some equipment is “natively” mapped meaning the labels do what they say when used in conjunction with the software, but the fun of mapping means you can evolve or change your setup to suit your style or enviroment. its fun.

MemberLong ago, the differenec between being a DJ and a juke box was the fact a DJ “blended” songs together to form a seamless transition. before there were DVS and laptops, hiphop DJ’s had to coast to coast vinyl to make loops. these things and more made someone a DJ, and once again, how can you move forward without knowing where you been. so imo, everyone that calls themselves a DJ should know how to beat match by ear. and if you cant, i suggest you learn, cause it will only make you better.

real music? you need to check yourself young man and learn your history.. true hiphop dj’in pioneered things you take for granted, like loops, the ability to cue records, and the fact that the OG’s like Kool Herc, Red Alert, Jazzy Jay, and the rest of the Zulu Nation/Soul Sonic Force etc made the 4 on the floor movement truly take off. So please before you start saying EDM is real music compared to Hip Hop, learn your facts. Rant Over. and btw I use beats and yeah the wire is short and they need batteries, but for what I do and the fact I depend on heavy bass to mix, they do me just fine. and Vinny, you my dawg big homie. big up and one love.
