    Thanks again, appreciate it

It seems a lot of people are having this problem with Windows 8

    http://www.reddit.com/r/windows8/comments/1b8ydn/anyone_else_experiencing_sound_problems_in/

Drivers or codecs? To be honest I know nothing about Windows 8, but in the past downloading Codecs for file types that for some reason Microsoft didn’t support very well helped me… K-lite codec pack etc

I’m one for jumping to conclusions of serious issues with things, computers, motorbikes etc and often forget, and have to have the simplest things pointed out to me, so I mean no offense here, but have you checked it isn’t the files you are playing that are maybe corrupt?

I tend to be extremely conservative about music, because I find the beauty in music to be demonstrated in the marriage of pathos and logos. As time progresses, music hasn’t necessarily gotten worse, but it’s become more and more simplistic. To one who appreciates the mathematical aspects of music, Grunge/Hair Metal/ Disco/ ”Bandwagon” music offers little-to-nothing.

I tend not to inference on human nature, for every attempt comes off as a glaring overgeneralization. If I were, however, to make one, it’d be more along the lines of ”people are social creatures who find greater strength in symbiotic relationships. They are more willing to change their outer/inner appearance based on perceived acceptance, whether intentional or subconscious, rather than focusing on being individualistic or different (although consciously, people feel a desire to be special). The introvert is the anomaly, as opposed to the extrovert.”

Fair point, people (sheeple) follow trends and fashions blindly, getting reassurance and security and safety in numbers. Those who are brave enough to stand out from the crowd are the exception to the rule. You could argue I suppose that those who are first to try something new are the exception, and those who are brave enough to not follow the crowd when they move to something new are exceptional also if they believe they are doing the right thing.

Playing to Mixed crowds means a lot of compromise – it is impossible to please all the people all of the time. I aim for playing 3 of each genre and mix it up. Most people won’t dance for more than 3 songs at a time anyway. Knowing your genres is important if people are generally not dancing for when they do get up – i.e. to play more of the same that got them there. Play classics, like you would hear on commercial radio stations, not the songs you like personally, as although you may know good music, the majority of people may not. Don’t have the music too loud to begin with. At a family gathering people will initially be more interested in catching up than dancing – you can turn it up later when the drink has started to take it’s effect.

I’ve been tinkering with Seamonkey today as it happens, as it’s availabe on Windows as well as Mac, but I’m ready to concede I am no good at creating websites, so agreed a deal today for someone else to design and maintain our website – new website coming soon, thank f. I also use Paint Shop Pro – not strictly speaking free, it’s shareware so you should buy it after trial – I did once buy a license, but lost the details truth be told.

in reply to: PA System/Sub question – sub necessary? #40133

Thanks again for the advice, I’ve been looking at options and a Pair of Peavey Passive Bins plus an active crossover will come to £400 – I already have 2 amps, not great ones, KAM KXR6000 and a Prosound 1600. As mentioned elsewhere was thinking of using this with my existing Skytec speakers for mid/top. All in all, would I just be better getting a pair of Mackie thumps? We do own a set of LD 450W and a KAM 1500 but want to have 2 PAs, as there’s 2 of us in our business.

Here is the link for the UK – I DJ in small sports clubs and hotels etc, but the venue is the one who has to have the license.

    Hope this helps

About the recommendation of 5 W per person wedding, 10 w per person raving, is this overall RMS – so if I have 2 300w speakers for top/mid and 2 300w Subs/bass bins then I could count as 1200w – this is RMS – so could do for 120 raving or 240 wedding? Thanks again, cheers, Don

Hi, welcome from another noob, I’m joining the welcoming committee because I have a lot of other things that I SHOULD be doing… I like your surname – having seen the episode of South Park doing Jersey Shore I would personally stay away from the word Jersey, no offense intended. What about Acrinaglia? Acrimaglia? Acrinelly? Just a thought

Hi, welcome from another noob, I’m joining the welcoming committee because I have a lot of other things that I SHOULD be doing… I suppose if you put the word about that you have the gear and are willing to DJ parties for free then you might find yourself popular – worth a try
