Trying to avoid the laptop switch, so i believe the wedding dj has his own traktor dvs unit which would be the additional soundcard? meaning he has his set up and then just switch the inputs to go to guest slots?

The closest I’ve come and havnt pulled off(yet) is I won a DJ competition with a clothes company, I’m trying to strike a sponsorship type thing with them in which every time I gig I wear there clothing, great advertisement for them and me, hopefully we can come up with something 🙂

Vintage, I thank you for putting into words what I’ve been trying! The thing you mention with the rating system is spot on, i rate all my tracks out of 10 for energy level, heaviness and how much of a banger it is! 🙂 Listen to vintage implanted, he speaks very wise words.

More then anything it comes quite naturally to me? Sound is the main thing does the following song lead on from the current one in the way i want it too, again analysing kick drum and patterns, bass lines is all very well and good but youre chasing a technically perfect mix

A new MBP, my current macbook Air has had some “interesting” moments recently and the new smell of burning and hot battery are getting me worried…

So by collection i mean the tracks you choose to DJ with, there’s a lot said on this subject and considering I play 6 core genres i have around 500 tracks on my djing laptop(not a lot). So in my collection that I’d say I know well, if I have any track playing I’ll always be able to give you one track that will always go into it nicely, I think that comes through a lot of trial and error but thats the knowing your collection comment explained.

I feel youre concentrating on a technically excellent musical mix thats irrelevant, knowing your music and the feel of the tracks and the night you’re playing at for what people are going to go wild too next is what i find to be most important when deciding whats next!

What David said, excellently! The great DJ’s among us will make you feel like you’ve been on a journey, theres ups, downs, intense bits and light bits. You cant just categorically define where to mix in and out of every “Deep House” track. You have to use your own judgement to create your own journey.

I use EarPeace HD, theres other companies offering similar to what these guys do but these are the ones i own.

love them, instead of blocking soundwaves reaching your ear to make it quieter, as you mention above, they actually block the ear and then allow sound to pass through the filter which in turn basically just turns the volume down yet you still get the clarity, thats a dumbed down version of whats happening, but hopefully shows the difference. You can get different filters for them for different volumes too, come in a handy carry case which does bulk my keys up but not too much! Strongly recommend them/this style, i dont really think you need moulded in ears… but i havnt tried 🙂 if this is your profession and will be for the next 20 years, maybe its worth the investment!

    What Ricky Said!

Plan your opener, If i’m playing for an hour ill usually plan, and have it timed my first 15 minutes, in them 15 minutes ill play a few different sub genres(mainly drum and bass i play so jump up, big room, liquid) and see what people like the most and go down that route!

Dont be scared to think, this isnt working lets change it up! If it aint working, change it, but also dont change it straight away give people time to get into your groove your work flow, and with this, dont expect anyone and everyone to dance from start to finish of your set!

Finally, look at your body language behind the decks, stand up tall, look confident and enjoy your self.

So, as mac fanboy, my suggestion puts you onto apple but heres how you could do it…

Download iTunes, create and account and buy iTunes Match.

Import everything into itunes, when doing this and connected to the internet, it will go off find track names and album names and album artwork etc etc etc. It will also neatly place all your files in a folder system for you which can be reteived later from Music > itunes > itunes media. The match part will then match it in the itunes store meaning you have ultimate free copies attached to your account and can redownload a better quality if needed from the itunes store, which, will sort out a lot of volume issues etc for you.

Once you have everything in itunes, you have a kick ass music management system that has direct support through rekordbox.
