It looks like what I was trying to do was a bad idea. It would work but probably not very well unless I use a laptop with a 3.0 usb. Thanks again Phil.

I don’t get it I made sure I said buy when I asked. Yea that’s the track. Thanks. I could only find the CD for some reason.

Sorry about the spelling errors. I was at work and I know that I spell checked it.

I’m from Tampa. I was a raver back in the 90’s. I play breaks. Mostly Florida breaks. Great music man. I was a hip hop head before I got into the rave scene. Check out some of my mixes. Tell me what you think. The reason I do it is because of the love of the music and my passion the spread the Florida break sound.

Here is a tip I use with some of my mixes. I do experimental stuff mixing two songs of different genres, tricks, scratching and effects. Anything thing that is not straight mixing (beatmatching). I try to do at the beginning or end of my recording session. So if i make a mistake I can go back and use mp3 cutter to trim off my garbage with out having to shit can the whole mix.

Usually when I make a mix. Which is quite often. I throw down like I’m playing peak time at a night club or late night event. 126-140BMP heavy bass and vocal breaks. Bobbing my head and waving my hands like Someone’s watching. lol If I was making a demo for a gig I would taylor it based on the crowd ill be expecting to play to and the time of night I’d be playing But I don’t see ant gigs in my near future.

I post my mixes on four different sites.
http://www.mixcrate.com/djxkhan
http://www.mixcloud.com/djxkhan/
http://soundcloud.com/dj-xkhan
http://www.house-mixes.com/profile/alexthegreat
They all have there advantages. I like mixcrats dj profile page. I like mixclouds link to serato for ease of playlist uploading. I like the waveforms in soundcloud. I get the most exposure (plays, downloads and comments) on housemixes.com. For 5 pounds on housemixes you get top of the page for a week and you get at least 100 plays
What I don’t like is the cost of soundcloud and the limit of allowable upload hours. I get the least amount of exposure on mixcloud. Don’t really have any thing bad to say about mixcrate.
I post the most on mixcrate. The good and great mixes on housemixes.com Due to limited space I only try to put my favorite mixes there.
I also have a beatport page but I can’t upload there yet.

I paid like $179 for my 128gb Sandisk ssd. It’s only been about two months and I seen a 128gb ssd on newegg.com for like $119 less then a dollar a gig. I was totally blown away with the performance. I was told you could take an i3 machine with an ssd running windows and your other programs and it would be faster then an i7 with out an ssd. The having no moving parts is always good. One other thing no ones really sure about the long term reliability. But as long as you back up I’m ok with replacing my ssd every year or two. (I consider a computers life span at about 3 years and thats pushing it.)It’s worth it for the speed. In a few years all laptops will come with ssd and the price of memory will just keep going down.

I replaced the 500gb HDD with a 128bg SSD all for under $1000. Its been flawless and its quick as shit. If you never used an i7 with an ssd….. Is just so much faster. The only thing i don’t like about it is no usb 3.0. I run my programs on the ssd and took the internal drive out of the lap top and use that through an esata cable. But you can. Just put you music on USB drives and play off that. I have my USB buffer latency set at 1 and my max screen updats set at 60 updates per sec with out a hitch. Analyzing files is super quick with 8 processors. My old machine only had 2 and it took forever. You can’t beat the price for the spec’s. Let me know what you end up getting.

OK. Maybe there’s not as many ns7 users here as I thought. Well I have a question. I have never used a cdj. But from what I understand the cdj is a amazing piece of gear. I have used real tables a time or two many years ago when a friend of mine owned a record shop before I ever took wanting to actually dj seriously. Any way here’s my question. Would you trade your ns7 for 2cdjs and a mixer? Even if you dont own an ns7 which would you buy? A lightly used ns7fx http://www.ebay.com/itm/Numark-NS7FX-Motorized-DJ-Software-Performance-Controller-/200784651018?pt=DJ_Gear_Lighting&hash=item2ebfb2a30a
or a pait of cdj 400’s and a mixer. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2X-Pioneer-CDJ-400s-and-DJM-400-2-channel-Mixer-L-K-/221063294843?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid=111000&algo=REC.CURRENT&ao=1&asc=27&meid=761176566651091701&pid=100033&prg=1011&rk=3&

I tried to keep the price point around $1200. Which would you choose?

Pretty sure you know my answer. I currently would not trade my ns7 for any controller or cdj set out there. Ok I lie if someone wanted to trade me straight up my ns7 for 2 cdj2000 and a mixer I would be tempted mainly because the price point for 2 cdj2000 and a mixers is about 4 times the cost of a brand new ns7. I an actually thinking of picking up 1 used cdj to hook into the aux input on the front of my unit just to get comfortable with a cdj in case I ever do get the opportunity to play out. I only still have like 100 or so cd’s but I would make some just to practice with. Maybe Ill make a poll.

I hate itunes also. The only reason I’m forced to use it is because I have an iPhone. Got to use it if I want to put any music on my phone. Other then that I don’t use itunes at all. Its not even downloaded on my DJ laptop. Windows 7,serato itch and mixed in key are the only programs besides virus protection on my DJ machine.

Last night I made a youtube video of a short nuskool breakbeat mix. I’m still learning. Feed back welcome. I know I’m not using the ns7 to her full potential. That being said during this vid I actually use the effects and stuff more then I would normally just for the visual aspect.

in reply to: How important do you think it is to mix in key? #1007967

I have been mixing in key for a little over a month now. Its a tool. I have yet to play out so I dont know how a crowd would respond but I use it a lot. Not all the time but I would say since I downloaded mixed in key I line up my play list by key and then Bpm. I definitely improved the overall sound of my mixes. Before mixed in key I would have the beats matched and all and some transitions just would not sound right. I don’t run into that much anymore.
