Wow!!! I sure am glad nothing quite as bad as some of these posts have ever happened to me! I guess the worst thing that ever occurred was when we had the power to the amps go out while the song “Go DJ” was playing. Of course the crowd began to chant “Go DJ! Go DJ!” until the power came back up and the music resumed. Thankfully it only took about five minutes, but it was a humiliating five minutes!

I could always use some more lights! But really, I have all the equipment I need right now, more that I can move with my truck, so I guess what I really need is a trailer!

Shortest set? Well for a long time I DJed at a club that had the same band every Friday night. I opened and DJed the band’s two 45 min breaks. It was nice, as when the band played I could dance and mix with the crowd. The band members were real friendly and we got along well. However, the band leader did not like the fact that I could put more folks on the dance floor than the band and keep them there for the entire set. He was always trying to go long or cut me short. my sets would often end up being only 30 minutes. The longest? I’ve done several outdoor events where I had to DJ and MC the entire event, 9 to 10 hours, and in the hot Houston summer weather.

I started with freeware and moved to Traktor LE and then to Traktor Duo. For several reasons I moved to Virtual DJ Pro 7 before Traktor 2 came out. I wanted 4 decks and like the available skins and some of the other features that Traktor didn’t have. I am using VDJ with the VMS4 and a 4 deck skin that goes well with the controller. There are things about VDJ that I don’t like, especially the waveforms. Overall I am happy with it, and while I may take a look at Traktor 2, I think I will stay with VDJ.

I think right now Mixtrack is the best starter controller. I started with an Omni Control and Traktor. Right now I’m using a VMS4 and Virtual DJ.
