Hopefully it got more features and updated than the already beat-up ITCH

Personally I think if you have the opportunity to go to a DJ School or have a DJ that is willing to teach you the basix of mixing, beatmatching and such, you should jump on it. There is, in my humble opinion, no extra honor in figuring stuff out by yourself that others have figured out a zillion times before you.

Teaching can be a great way to jumpstart any skill. After you have learned the basix, you will start practicing, trying out things on your own and, ideally, find your own style.

    This, Absolutely, 100% agreed !
Also on the plus side, going to a DJ School also benefits you to networking to other DJ’s, you gets to know a new DJ friends, that might also can help you open up a new gigs, new opportunities…or just exchanging ideas and stuff on more a personal level.
And if you get a really cool Instructor, he/she can help you settle in a DJ environment, help you to join a local DJ label/event promoter, set you up a job training in the REAL clubs, plus many many more…

Not playing his tunes is a given for sure. They (not sure if the club or his manager) want specifically a non-dubstep opener, so I’m playing a dirty house / dark techno set leading up to his set.

Aw yeah! Good luck with dat m8 !
and make sure to keep us updated after that gig…^_^

Call it silly but eh w/e =p
When I practiced for a sets, (I usually rent a DJ studios, came with CDJ 2000, DJM 900 Nexus, and the sweet RMX 1000, all for 5 dolla/hour) I usually wrote down the minutes for the intro/outro, or when I’m ready to mix the two…
Let said Track 1, I try to put my transition here, eh not good, lets try that spot eh worse, finally when i found that sweet spot for the transition, i wrote down the minutes remaining, so its like this
Track 1 … 01:50 -> that’s where the intro of track 2 comes in or that’s where i release the cues on track 2, just whataver fits me

So basically i wrote it down…
    Track 1 … 01:50 (cues)
    Track 2 … 00:45 (outro)
    Track 3 … 01:49 (outro)
    … etc

Then i just copy/paste it to my phone and put it on the phone notes, when its time for the gig, i can just open it up, but most of time i already memorize most of the sweet spots anyway (that’s where the practice comes in handy), but then again since I’m old (like chuck =P) sometimes i tend to forgot it so i just opened up the note on muh phone

I’m still collecting music that I enjoy that I think fits the sound I’m going for, then I’ll probably do several practice mixes to see how it flows and listen back to the recordings…set cue points, get real comfortable with the songs, then when the day comes I can enjoy myself and engage the crowd instead of getting nervous for lack of preparation and staring at my decks/screen the whole time.

Big name producer huh ? Nice man ! Names? or top secret? lol
Just make sure in your set, you don’t play any of his tunes that he produced, LOL

Rizki, do you generally play your songs in the same order that you initially burned them? Or do you mix it up on the fly?I’m not judging either way, just curious.

I usually played them in the same order that I initially burned them, because most of the time i know what is my time slot that night and I already familiar with the club atmosphere, except if there is a request pops up every now and then, then I improvised a lil bit, and then i gradually slowly work my way back to my burn set

Then again, its not set in stone, IF for some weird reasons I cant explained, For example I supposed to play that nite at 10 PM, but the dance floor already packed with a bloody sweaty humans, I quickly changed my already prepped “Opening Set”, to my other sets, thus that’s when my CD case comes in handy

in reply to: do you need a hardware mixer if you have a DJ Controller? #43120

Depends on your controller and where you play at…
If you have a weak controller and a club setting, you may need a hardware/club/professional mixer,
    Why ?
    1. So it wont put too much pressure on your controller, ya know the peak volume UV meter in your controller (hence if u had on it)
    2. Put the pressure on the hardware/club/professional mixer, ya know turn up their master volume, turn up their trims
    3. Some controller / software doesn’t possessed FX, most of the time the hardware/club/professional mixer do
    4. Some controller may not have those extra plug-in for other source, ya know in case your laptop screw-up or other technical issues, you left out with no backups, leaving the dance floor with this silent awkward sensation

In other setting (small event and such), you may not need those hardware/club mixer, plug those sucker straight to the amp,
although some band mixer be good also (ya know them BIG bold huge mixer with lots of buttons and faders)
Just make sure your controller comes with nice kick ass sound card (be it internal or external sound card)
