ParticipantJust learning the tool, in uour case FL studio, will not make you a producer, It can only make you a experimental clown, sorry to be so frank, and nobody will take your songs seriously, as in 99% of the cases you can hear that after the first few beats…
Sorry to bump and old threats, but I was just wonderin what you recommended then if I want folks to take my songs seriously ?

ParticipantGive out CDs or something where people can go to your website to get mixes. If you don’t have a site, get one.
Just a real quick question, If i gave out CD’s should i put something written in the CD’s, just some simple words like my twitter name (since i dont have a site not just yet), would that be sufficient in time being ?

ParticipantYeah mixtrack pro and Serato is great for your sole purpose (no Virtual DJ or Traktor ), and for your budget err 200 dolla ? kind of (very) limited, maybe see if you can get the used gears? If you can get your hands on some used VCI 300 those are GREAT for scracthing, the sleek plate, and the crossfader is just so tite ! Check out some of the scathing performance with VCI 300 in Youtube
PS: FF7 RULES !!!

ParticipantCould be your gear, maybe? Tell ya what forget the controllers, download the home free trial of Virtual DJ, and just try to mix tracks using only your laptop, see how it go with the bass and like, when you mix two of the same tracks you have problem with

ParticipantYou say in a reply, the US has been alienating them selves from the EDM movement….. they invented the word EDM… before like 2010 it was called Dance music.
What i meant to say is the “electronic/dance” movement, I was under the impression since everyone use the word “EDM” these days lol

ParticipantMaybe instead of tell them flat out ” I Play for free!!!”, you could approach it differently, when I was first started I approached a “DJ Community” around my local area, instead going straight to the club manager/owner, if you make a good connection to these “DJ Community”, more than likely if they have a show at the club they will ask you to participated not for a free per-se, but with “sharing profit”. Of course most of the times, I did not get any % at all from these “sharing profit” but you make a good connection with the “DJ Community” and the club manager/owner that you just had your show
By all means its a long due process, it took me around 3-4 years, until finally this year it start to pays off, these “DJ Community” start asking me to go on the tour with their first-line-up DJ’s, in different cities, with a flat-rate plus plane tickets and accommodation, I finally can enjoy my DJ Rock Star Syndrome, lol

ParticipantNow I have friends, but like me, they’re all older, married, and many have children. They just didn’t have the time, endurance, finances, or desire to go to the clubs
Ow man, we floating the same boat, all of my friends is like that, they talked about going fishing, or go bowling on the weekend, zzz, when i brought up, “Hey man, im DJ ing tonite at this club come and see me ???” they replies “Im too old for that” or “Aint you too old to be doing that ??”, the one that ticks me the most is Hey I’m askin you to come to support me as a friend ya know and i tought YOUse my friends, I bet if I’m in some play at the local theater you come and see me, ow nooooo BUT not when I’m A DJ ! This concludes me to search for a new circle of friends whos much younger or at least share the same passionate like I.
thus when I had some amateur promoters say “you gotta bring heads” when they inquire about me doing guest spots, I told them to truth and declined. I simply tell them I had no pull like that…which they respected me for being honest, since many would lie and take the spot.
Exactly how it is, when i first getting gigs, I’m like promote everywhere, I messaged all of my buddies heyyyy come and see me… it turns out noone cares and noone comes to my gigs. When a club asked me to “brings heads”, I backed out quit, I turned to other Event Organizer, and just tell them to deal with the club owners, so if I do play in the gigs at the club now its because that other Event Organizer asked me to be in their DJ’s line-up, so all I gotta do just come in and DJ, and maybe just invite a few friends of mine who i knew would come, so I dont have to worry about “bring heads” commitment rest completely in my shoulder, been doin this like almost 3 years now (lol)
I never really imagined that I can play anywhere else but in my local hometown, but this year, it’s when I start getting invitation to play outside my local city (gettin pay for it err well not much but hey, plus a plane ticket and hotels and stuff), hopefully it start paying off all my effort this year.
