    1) My laptop is a big guy with a 17 inch screen specs all top notch (i7 processor, 8 gb ram and 1 tb harddisk)

Thats plenty enuff, Windows 7 i hope, just to be in the safe side

    2) I am nervous just at the thought of being in public. i have been given the option to do a b2b with a friend, should I?

That also depends is your partner got more experiences under his/her belt ? If he/she is, i would take the offer, plus maybe he/she can bring his/her own gears also for backup purpose

    3) how do I prepare for such an event. I primarily mix EDM but this is the average teen crowd and they will ask for R&B, slow songs and pop. How can I incorporate those genres with my primary music and make it interesting for the crowd?

Since this is your first time, imo, stick to what the crowds demands, in this case you in advantages cuz you already KNOW what the crowds wants, so dont force your “taste” to them not just yet, for this first time around play for the crowds.

    4) in case of an emergency and something goes wrong with the setup or laptop how could I recover it… any suggestions?

    See items # 2)
If you decide not to take on partners, I would try to bring a secondary laptop with you, if you dont owned a secondary laptop, bring your dvd players load with some non stop mix, and ready to plug into the PA system just in case

Here’s a good review on those new beatmix units. Seems like the beatmix 4/2 are very beginner/amateur controllers

Eh i dont see anything that resembled amateur applied to this controller,
Let see I mix and spin with this baby,
    I rocked the crowd,
    More people come,
    I rocked it again,
I slowed it down to gave the crowd a breathing time and purchased bottles and drinks,
Oh yeah i got pay, plus percentage from the drinks

So what am I missing ?
    Would love to hear it

If u think your laptop is not up for the job, grab yur USB stick, and stick with the basic mixing, the basic should be the same between your controller and the cdj setup at the club

Maybe the USB thing kind of different, but shouldnt be that hard,
The rest is just load the track push play button and push Cue again to start from beginning
PS make sure u turn on the Auto Cue in the CDJ tough

Never liked the idea of self taught myself,
so I went and register into one of those local DJ School, with a pair of dem sweet SL1200
Kind of glad i did, learn from the best way,

Gods know IF i try to self taught, i prolly went straight learning from Virtual DJ without the proper guidance, thinking im the best DJ ever

If anything else fails, you can try to find some old disco tunes from various DJ pool site online,
I’m sure they have it somewhere all warped up, DJ friendly

    PS #3

Ableton LIVE and its warping function is excellent,
You can literally mark every beat so it stays consistent with the tempo,
and u can always add icing by re-drum it also,

PS Logic Pro X also have this thing called “time flex”, I hadn’t try it feature yet
