ParticipantPS it wont hurt either from now on, you go out to that club, chill, and taking notes on what DJ’s playin and which one works for the crowd, “study tour” you can called it that

Participantthough there’s still plenty of room for maneuvre within that
In the beginning I would throw out that stuff at the windows, stick what you know that WILL worked, maybe later on along the line you can put that idea back into the table
bringing folks on to the dancefloor and keeping them there until closing time.
Please dont, folks be dead hydrated by time you done lol, make a “break” set where you allowed folks to sit down and purchased a drinks, after all thats where the club makin most of their dolla
The good practice is by splitting your sets into a different folder, something like this for example: Beginning, Middle, END
That way you can focused on whic tunes goes best and you can always mix and match themLamid45G
ParticipantForgot to add : All those above are based on my own experiences, take it with a grain of salt n peppaaaaa….whats da matter with your lifeee, why you gotta …err *cough sorry =p

ParticipantThe thing is not only you, most of other DJ’s if they only just focus to this one genre will find the same situation like you are.
I have a good friend of mine floating the same boat as you are,
His genre is, welp you guessed it, its “Trance”, thats his love and soul, he told me he cries when he listened to Trance (*chuckle tryin to keep my face straight when he was telling me this), he REFUSED to play anything but “Trance”
Well, we all know it the genre is pretty much dead (*dodged Trance fans), the Trance scene is pretty much is a dying breed, no local clubs in their right mind would hired a DJ that spin Trance nor have any some kind of event related to Trance
SO in order for him to keeps playin at the club, IS to switched his genre, multi-format genre, and yeap you guessed it, he REFUSED. He settles just makin some mixtapes and podcast it and stuff.
There is really no wrong or right in here, you just need to asked yourself what is it that you wanted ?
Me? the simple reason i still love DJing is to experience that blood rush when the crowds cheers and dance to MY DJing, regardless what typed of music i spinLamid45G
ParticipantHellow Ryan and welcome,

ParticipantBe better to ask this in another section of the forum instead in here…

ParticipantMy very first controller it was Vestax VCI 300, just a simple plain basic controller, with only 2 channels, just like you said eh I prolly wont do much of mash-up thingie at the beginning anyway
The absences of Pads, its not really bother me much, I didnt miss it too much since I have no use for it at that moment, same thing applied to the absence of the FX knobs, sure I can purchased the separate FX units for it, but I never did get around to bought it, I kind of count on the in house club mixer which most of the time already had a built in FX on it,And then when I start progressing, advancing if you will my skills in DJ controller, i swapped it for the Reloop Beatmix4, entered the pads and the FX knobs. It is a fun experiences now, since I already acquired a needed skills to abuse those pads and the FX (Serato DJ FX ish awesome!)
Lamid45G
ParticipantGood luck death !
Lamid45G
ParticipantYou dont need to worry about FX anyway, those are done in the mixers, (might want to find out too what kind of mixers they have other than the crappy CDj 1000)
Just like others recommended, much better if you can just bring the S4 with ya at the venues,
the way the CDJ 1000 set up its just meh, it didnt support USB, no waves, all you see this tetris thing at the screen LOL
No precise BPM, unlike the nexus one, so the BPM only read for ex. 130 vs 130.55 at the nexusOne trick I found is for example if you have song A at 130 bpm, at +2.60, the other song is i try to matched it with a whole number somewhere like +1.40 or +.40 depends on the situation,
The easier solution is just to play tunes that you know all in the same bpm for ex. at 130, that way if you have song A at +2.50, the song B should be at the same +2.50Lamid45G
Participant@santa : the only routines i did when i set my playlist, is to practiced them out, by then I know, ow man this song A is too mellow to be in the middle sets, welp lets move this ahead,
Or you can record it while you practiced it and then listened to it in your car, then making notes adjustment like I did above,
When it comes to the gig it self yeap, Freestyle, altough i try my best to stick to just that one crate/playlist i made before hand so my mind dont go wonders off to other crates@deathy : Pop charts is a nitemare eh ? i know the feeling man, but it helps me (a LOT) enhancing my sets in front of live crowds, by lookin to the pop charts I know it in the instant whats hot whats not tracks it helped with my playlist set-up
