ParticipantIf you use the playlist made out of plain windows folder, err its a pain in the arse,
first how you order them ? For example, I want to play this Song A first, then song B next, you have to manually rename them to err zzz, 01-SongA, 02-SongB,
In rekordbox, all you gotta do create a Playlist, arrange your songs, named the Playlist “MYAWSHOMESUPADUPASETLISTCUZIMASUPADUPADJ”, and then just clicked import them to your USB stick, then you opened them up in cdj, and then just browse to your Playlist folder and find your playlist (err no im not goin to attempt to typed the name of my playlist again lol)Plus it loads your wave much faster in your cdj, cuz rekordbox analyzed them already

ParticipantHow about the Numark Mixtrak Pro II ?
It has a solid review here in DDJT, and its recommended as a budget friendly controller,
plus you already familiar with itLamid45G
ParticipantI fear that I won’t get very far with my Techno/Trance/Game remixes collection
I’d rather not head to the nearest big city, as that is Detroit, MIDetroit techno ?
The thing is you need to go to the club, a LOT, your conclusion with, ” I wont get very far …”, its the lack of you going into the real club, to check out the scene, check out what the DJ’s playin, surely there is some clubs who would play close to that you are playing, but you dont know that if you never went to to one of thoseShy is not really a problem, i used to be shy,
Heck I would advised go with your gaming buddies one night to a club, just for fun and giggles,Lamid45G

ParticipantThere is an article somewhere here in DDJT that discussing about this matter, “Do not DJ for free…ever..”, I’m sure one of the MODs (either Terry or Chuck) can enlighten in this subject
Dont hide behind the rock of excuses, “well heck I dont get pays anyway, so it dont matter my set sucks” attitude, people will stamped you as this freebie DJ’s, and you devalued yourself more and more
I mean, you practiced hard, gained knowledge to be a DJ, set an arrange and re arrange your set list etc, and you not going to valued all of your hard work ?
Its not about “I dont need the money” …, I mean, the fact is you not going to get pays like million dollars, like the superstar DJ’s anyway, but its not the amount or the money itself that matter.

ParticipantI have a folder structure like this (by the way, I’ve used this since the time when EDM still meant electronic dance music):

ParticipantToshiba satelites is ok-ish for errr 2 years maybe? before everything start to acting out (personal experiences of mine)
– the batteries start not lasting long than it used to be
– the heat is the no.1 problem, if its gets too hot, it will just magically shut down on its own,
– those 500 gb ? wont last long
– the USB ports is the biggest fail in the satellite seriesIt should do the trick running Virtual DJ, and you can upgraded it from XP to windows 7 if u like
I ran my Serato ITCH, with VCI 300 with a few gigs in it, until the shut-down gets out of control (it just shut down in the middle of my gig), went and bought the MBPLamid45G
ParticipantFirstly, to everyone reading this, NEVER EVER take a gig which demands for tunes that you have no experience DJing with. NEVER again
eh i wouldnt say never, maybe perhaps?, if you take your time, before the gig, do some research, digging more, ask around DJ’s that you knew that are play this particular genre, you should be fine,
The way i sensed, and forgive me If Im wrong, is you kind of shy/emberassed to asked folks, nothing to be ashamed of in pursuit of knowldege imo.
Plus the genre is deeply rooted in your nationality, so it should be natural to you anyway.Plus you rocked them in your first gig right ? so make some adjustment here and there what worked good in your first gig and applied it to your second gig (well for next time anyway)
PS
I still accepted the gig, especially when the said I would get free lunch and a drink (not one too hard though).
Maybe next time you can asked them for a small fee too? gas money or something besides just drink and food? This way it may can helped you focus more
Plus, come on man, you a DJ, not some homeless in some street corner wearing a sign “Will DJ for drinks and food”Lamid45G
ParticipantSame here no xmas tunes around my local joint,
well maybe that Ding Ding song by Gunther (they had the xmas version of it at one time)Lamid45G
ParticipantThere’s been a massive-big-fraud coming in from Nigeria to us located in Asia, things like a recording company contract, a job offering position, a sweepstakes ( all in all involved by sending them first some sort of payment up-front)
OP: be careful and take an extra per-caution please …

ParticipantStick to what mostly comfortable to you, imo, some software when I tried it, its like meh i felt like being alienated by the software aka Traktor, thus I prefered Serato it makes me feel more “homey” I guess…

ParticipantNot sure why anybody want to passed out a BIG opportunity if its knockin hard at their door just because “not technically ready” ?
My basic background I was trained to be a Club DJ, not long ago there is a local DJ Battle competition called “Pioneer DJ Battle Competition”
A battle DJ Competition ? its all about technical right there, which I do not possessed what so ever, not even a little bit, but hey this is a big opportunity for me, to get to know other DJ’s, to get my name out there, so yesssirrr i signed up and made it to the semi-final
The lack of technically its one of the main reason i quickly signed up with Digital DJ Tips Scratch Class as soon as they opened and its been an eye-opener for me !

ParticipantCOngratz on soon-to-be your gig, dont lose hope yet, as Chuck pointed out the universe awarded you, now the universe giving you a chance to practice more, use it for your benefits.
PS in regards of the equipment, you said the event manager dude had a full set of Pioneer gears, cant you like “borrow” or perhaps “rent” it from him ? with some kind of terms and conditions ?
