ParticipantI only just worked out how to change the latency settings etc. Thanks Chuck.

ParticipantEasily done.
Assuming you have the right lead, plug your iPod into Channel D, ensure it’s set to ‘Line’ and ‘Thru’, and that will keep you going until your laptop restarts.
If you have a microphone, it needs to be unplugged.

ParticipantJuno Download often has MOS albums for sale where if you buy the whole album you get the mixes and the tracks in unmixed form together. I’d watch out for the Annual series tho as some of the unmixed tracks seem to be radio edits.

ParticipantBeatport DJ charts are my favourite method. I start by looking up the charts of DJs/producers well known within their genre, usually deep house, tech house, or techno, but sometimes house as well. Then I’ll look through the charts of some of the DJs a little less well known who have their charts posted up.
I’ll then browse through the ’10 must hear tracks’ of some genres, but at most I’ll only choose usually 3 this way, and same with the weekly exclusive tracks, plus any other charts Beatport may have emailed me about.

I keep my media on an external and I’m having issues with some that is on the internal drive. Thanks
I’m using Windows 7 and iTunes. Whenever I download new tracks I always have to key in the info manually which is a bit annoying. Not used beatunes or mediamonkey. If I move the music as wav files between libraries then I’ll lose the info, so have kept them to one library.
On another note, my external hdd is backed up and kept at another location.

ParticipantMy first recorded mixes were a set of three, titled the charty choons, the hard house hits, and the techno trax. All were recorded around late 1999/early 2000.
Charty choons – side 1 had tracks like phats & small – turn around, Pete Heller – Big Love, and Armand Van Helden – You don’t know me. Side 2 had me messing around with two copies of run dmc – it’s like that, wildchild – renegade master, and wiseguys – ooh la la, before going into some drum & bass
Hard house hits – side 1 featured tracks like Camisra – let me show you, and side 2 was mostly tracks on tidy trax/tripoli trax.
Techno trax – perhaps not pure techno, but included hardfloor – beavis at bat (dave angel remix), beta blocker – the ultimate, DJ Misjah – access, Virus – Moon.
I think the tracks would sound very dated now, but was mostly happy with the beatmatching and the blending.

ParticipantI’m one of those who keeps my music collection in WAV format, so gone way past the point where laptop storage is sufficient. I now have a 1tb external lacie drive, works very well.

ParticipantI work in IT, a bit dull sometimes but with laptops involved in DJing and production now it means I can usually get a computer working again and when I can’t I know which part(s) need replacing.

ParticipantI never plan my sets, because when I first played I usually found that any ‘plan’ went out the window after a few tunes. It’s a good idea to know pairs or groups of tunes that work together though, so a sort of ‘mini-plan’ rather than a full one. That way you avoid the other extreme of still thinking ‘what shall I play next’ when there’s 30 seconds left of the current track.

ParticipantIn a word yes, for the same reasons as Max D and Iceman wrote.

ParticipantI really need some new ideas for this. At the moment I’m only using beatport, I usually give their sales charts for my preferred styles a quick listen and then decide I don’t like them, so then I listen through the DJ charts for the same styles and usually find tracks I like. It’s worked so far, but always wonder if I could be doing more.
