ParticipantHere’s the other from Ron Carroll (aka R.O.N.N.):
Title: Way Back
Artist: The Peverell Brothers & R.O.N.N. aka Ron Carroll
Label: Jango Music
Genre(s): HouseAlex Moschopoulos
ParticipantI have to say Ron Carroll is killing it lately. Picked up two from him recently:
Title: Someone
Artist: Ron Carroll & Emilio Hernandez
Label: Zulu Records
Genre(s): HouseAlex Moschopoulos
ParticipantGerdB, I ended up picking up your pick. Love the energy.
5miiks…I wish more hip-hop played out there sounded that good.
Ulysses Wolfgang, I really dug the selection from Young Internet. That 90s synth just makes anyone fall in love with it. My brother loved Ruins (I did too).

ParticipantTook a listen yesterday. Nice job. You had a good, slow buildup of energy over the whole mix, and put the effort on solid blending. I never liked when DJs start slamming in tunes to speed things up. Always thought a flow is better with trance. Also liked you put variety…so it wasn’t a playlist of the same track over and over.

ParticipantYAY! Some new sets to brighten up this gray dreary day in Chicago.
I’ll toss feedback up later.

ParticipantIt’s tough. I used to have some mashups on SC, but they killed them. Now I just host them on my own site.

ParticipantSome trance…because I’ve bought a bunch lately. The remixer and I connected on Twitter. Nice sound for me…

Title: Rouge (Skylex Remix)
Artist: Aeden
Label: TFB
Genre(s): TranceJust the kind of sounds I like. Heavy beat, good synths, and love the splash of acid.

ParticipantHere’s one from Chicago’s own Gene Farris…
Title: Time
Artist: Gene Farris
Label: Cajual
Genre(s): House, Deep, FunkyAlex Moschopoulos
ParticipantLove the tunes guys! I picked up Gerd’s submission, and 5miiks, that tune just so screams “Chicago” in sound. Is it normally a “live” one? It sounds somewhat “messy” as if it were a live performance. Is there some “polished” release?

ParticipantI could understand the push for pirate radio in the old days…but with the internet now you can have an unlimited amount of “radio stations” and never interfere with anything.
So my curiosity…why still push for FM transmission?
Now I don’t know how airwaves are regulated in the UK, but in the US supposedly they are “publicly owned”. One idea would be to take the low band and designate it for amateur radio.
One other factor though is on copyrighted material. So you’re playing music, and then when you sell ads of any sort you need to pay the appropriate channels the royalties for using the music to make money.

ParticipantNow to what came after Speed Garage…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydLBOAuO7-w
Title: Something (Skippy Mix)
Artist: The Artful Dodger
Label: Centric RecordsGenre(s): UK Garage, 2-Step
Year released: 1998As fast as Speed Garage caught attention and then exploded into way too many unimaginative copycat vinyls, producers in the UK found new innovation by taking out movement of house and tweaking the beat into what many know as 2-Step. You listen to the tune and you’ll see how much it differs from that of house. I remember many clubs experimenting with 2-Step nights in an effort to bring sophistication to the floor, but unfortunately in Chicago, the yuppies who frequented these clubs didn’t get into it, but I have heard it was popular in the UK.
The Artful Dodger has to be one of the foremost names in 2-Step, as the band’s production work went hand in hand with the popularity of the subgenre. I know I can’t hear of a talk on 2-Step without The Artful Dodger mentioned.
While I never really played the sound as a DJ, I do enjoy it on my own for a change of pace.

ParticipantMy brain is all on Garage this week. This one rolling around in my head:
Title: Ripgroove
Artist: Double 99
Label: SatelliteGenre(s): Speed Garage, House
Year released: 1997Don’t you remember the late 90s? When it seemed the clubs were full of a sophistication as DJs and producers experimented with different sounds? Many old schoolers would remember when Armand Van Heldon started a trend by creating house with the rhythm kit of jungle…thus known as Speed Garage.
While Van Heldon can claim the credit as innovator, other producers soon followed, mostly copying his sound. Double 99 was a duo from the UK who blatantly sampled Heldon’s remix of “Sugar is Sweeter” but ended up with a bumpin anthem to the late 90s club scene. I actually first heard this tune on the infamous Pump Up The Volume documentary, but ended up buying it for the memories it brought.

Participant5miiks, my buddy did a house remix of that tune a while back – https://soundcloud.com/content-records/patrick-wayne-vs-pete-rock-cl

Participant5miiks, I could so fathom those tunes while chilling in a cafe. This is why I love this share. Great stuff.
GerdB, thanks again for covering, and I enjoyed that last tune. Goes to show “pop” doesn’t have to be cheesy.

ParticipantOn a different note…
Title: Underground Roll (Demuir’s Playboy Edit)
Artist: Joris Dee
Label: FogbankJust a nice bouncy piece of jackin’ house to work a crowd up earlier in the night. I wish the clip on SC had some of the soprano sax bits.
