ParticipantTrance for those who like it. I just like the vocals and acid splashes:

ParticipantNever been to Ibiza, but I imagine it’s like any scene. You’ll have the big amazing clubs where you play all sorts of cool music and get payed loads, and then you have the smaller tourist spots where you’ll be spinning Top 40 and paid little.
Frankly from my viewpoint, I’d pursue a gig in Ibiza if I thought it would be fun and memorable. That “played some cool tunes in some beachy cafe, but ended up making a tiny amount of money” thing where it’s more an activity on your vacation than anything.
Still, there’s loads of beautiful places one could DJ at. Try some of these trips when you’re going to travel and perhaps land an overseas gig, even if it’s purely for bragging rights.

ParticipantOne more to celebrate the diversity of the 90s:
Title: Echo Chamber
Artist: Beats International
Label: Go! DiscsGenre(s): Reggae, Dub, Leftfield
Year released: 1991I’ll admit I totally missed this one in 1991, but fell for it much later. When electro house was blowing up (before the EDM explosion), I had become a big fan of Fatboy Slim’s style of blending electro house, breaks, and big beat. I ended up picking up a compilation of tunes he produced or remixed, among them some of his work as part of the group Beats International. I just liked that distinctly British acid sound in this tune. While I never DJed with Echo Chamber, it’s a favorite on my own personal shuffle playlist.

ParticipantHere’s one of the tunes that educated me on trance after I experienced “Insomnia” by Faithless:
Title: Rock Da Beat
Artist: Electric Fruit Orchestra
Label: La Maison GrandeGenre(s): Trance
Year released: 1997I mentioned Faithless, as it was the first time I had been enlightened by the sound of trance. In the late 90s, I had started frequenting a night in a large Chicago club that dabbled in happy house, techno, and these new sounds of trance that had only been known to ravers for so many years. The resident DJ had worked in a local record shop, and I would dig through her section, usually favoring tunes that carried that Faithless vibe. The La Maison Grande label fulfilled much of that need.
Electric Fruit Orchestra were a trio of German producers who went by many aliases, but I picked up much of their releases as EFO. Even listening to this tune now brought back so many memories… always a good thing. It is interesting how trance sounded in the 90s versus today.

ParticipantYay…not too late to add some!
Title: Stand By Me (Jumpin’ Dub)
Artist: Julian “Jumpin” Perez featuring Valentino
Label: DJ InternationalGenre(s): House
Year released: 1988At first listen, you would think this is just a sample of Kraze’s anthem “The Party”, but the Jumpin’ Dub became an instant hit all over Chicago when this vinyl came out…even more than the straightforward vocal house sound of the original version. It’s one of my all-time favorite old school anthems.

ParticipantI don’t know any artists/titles in this subgenre…but I’d tell you to listen to sets from this year’s Ultra Music Festival, and even last year’s. I honestly heard a lot of this sound in many of the headliners.
Maybe look at “Big Room House” or something.

ParticipantAlso one from a 2014 Oakenfold set I caught online. Love the vocals and bounce:
Title: Touch Me (Perfecto Club Mix)
Artist: Paul Oakenfold & Cassandra Fox
Label: Perfecto
Genre(s): Trance, Big RoomAlex Moschopoulos
ParticipantWell, it’s Wednesday now, but here’s what I have for this week:
Title: Next Turn
Artist: Umek
Label: Cr2 Records
Genre(s): Tech HouseAlex Moschopoulos
ParticipantThis is so irrevocably 80s, but it’s classic for me:
Title: Oh Sheila
Artist: Ready For The World
Label: MCAGenre(s): Pop, R&B
Year released: 1985I recall hearing this tune in the 80s, liking it, but quickly dismissing it. It wasn’t until the mid-90s when I heard Chicago DJ Lil’ John Coleman drop the accapella on top of some current minimal deep house that I went nuts and sought out a vinyl. One of those “they have an accapella???” moments. To this day when I hear Oh Sheila, I get visions in my mind of that 90s deep house Chicago Wicker Park scene. Just personal fond memories.
Ready for the World was a R&B band that came from none other than Flint, Michigan (if you’ve heard recently of their lead water problem). They peaked in the mid to late 80s, but like many 80s bands, failed to really adapt and evolve into the changes to the scene that came in the 90s. Beyond Oh Sheila, they are also known for the slower jam “Love You Down”.

ParticipantSorry I missed last weekend. Usual ounces of “busy” in my life.
Let’s kick off with a “slightly old” tune I missed back in 2004, and kicked myself for that.
Title: Mongobonix (Damien J. Carter Remix)
Artist: Harry “Choo Choo” Romero
Label: Milk & Sugar RecordingsGenre(s): Deep House, Soulful House, Latin House
Year released: 2004I miss smooth Latin-style house like this. Seems like anything made now is more “thumping” and is seemingly trying to sound like a tourist trap, or a faster version of reggaton.

ParticipantOk….S4. You have two types of output:

I’d tell you to hook up the RCA outputs (red and white outlets) to your speaker source.
So what is that source? A Stereo? Powered speakers? Amp? Computer?

ParticipantI agree for someone who’s “still learning”, he’s on the right track. I’m not deep into “trouse”, as I’m more into the high energy of the “138” sound. Still, I think the mix was decent despite the mono issue. I guess he needs to tweak/toy with his connections and get his stereo sound back.

ParticipantLast one for me today. While I always love John O’Callaghan’s stuff, I think Standerwick is a good infusion of new blood into the trance scene. Been so into Standerwick and ReOrder lately.
