Participant“I don’t have that track” … even if I have that track.
I have it on my phone. Can we hook it up and play it?
You have a computer…can’t you download it?

ParticipantAny particular titles you’re seeking?

ParticipantI say be honest and polite.
Example 1: Hey…I don’t care how much you think Metallica would just rock in a club. Look around, this isn’t a heavy metal club. Thank you for coming out tonight, but if you want metal then you’re unfortunately in the wrong spot.
Example 2: I’m sorry…but this night is a global underground house music night. If you want Bieber or David Guetta, then there are plenty of clubs in town pumping that. This place isn’t one of them.
Easiest Solution: I’m sorry, but we’re not taking requests tonight.

ParticipantSmart. Keep it going and watch a scene grow…and you with it.
Eventually if you’re drawing a crowd you’ll see other clubs/promoters wanting FringeTRONICS in their venue.

ParticipantI’m honestly not sure.
My friends gave me the name “D-Jam” when I started back in 1992. The “am” is actually my initials.
I’d thought about going to my actual name (or something like that), but my long Greek last name doesn’t flow quite nicely.
Nowadays, I just leave it be since I’m more hobbyist with all this.

ParticipantI really don’t know…but I’d probably more likely trust iTunes.
Many labels pulled up their old masters to make files for Apple.
In the end, I’d just take a risk. You’re only out a dollar or two if it’s bad. Plus I wouldn’t get too insane on audio quality. Trust your ears first and foremost, and remember most patrons aren’t going to notice the tiny details.

ParticipantNever had that issue…but I never send invites to my friends.
At one point, I posted on my normal profile that I have a fan page for “all things D-Jam” and stated I won’t post any related stuff on my normal profile. Some went and liked me, others didn’t. When one asks if I’m still spinning and such, I just send them to the page.
As for criticism…delete it and move on. You have to grow a thick skin in the entertainment industry.

ParticipantMy suggestion is to get on Spotify and add into a playlist, then when you “play radio station” based on those selections, Spotify will play tunes it believes you might like based on those.
You can also go on your favorite MP3 store, go to a tune you like, and then see the “Customers also bought…” list.

ParticipantYou’ll have to wait, but the last part of the series on Promotional Materials is on making DJ videos.

ParticipantHaven’t seen age discrimination. Usually promoters will book anyone or anything as long as it brings heads through the door.

ParticipantI would just use it.

ParticipantThis is the issue we have now in all technology. DJ gear, tablets, laptops, smartphones, TVs, video game consoles, etc.
Everyone wants some new awesome amazing big thing to happen every year. If one releases an update with just fixes, they get disappointed.
I see the same complaints with Traktor. Frankly, I dunno why people scream for 1000 new bells and whistles when they don’t use the full capabilities of their current setup.

ParticipantIf you match beats with waveforms, then you’ll need to learn to match by ear.
If you’re more thinking of timing, many will tap on the cue (setting it on the first beat) repeatedly leading up to the point (crossfader all the way on the playing song) and then hit play at that moment (sliding the fader to the middle).

ParticipantMake sure you’re not blending “main parts”.
If you have “main parts” on top of one another it will sound like a loud mess.

ParticipantI was born in 73. I’ll never forget in the late 70s when I went to this combination Mall/Amusement Park named “Old Chicago”. They had the first video games ever.
I agree on blown away as well…from Pong to the Atari 2600 to C64 to Windows…it’s been an amazing evolution.
