ParticipantOH…and as for “where”, the MP3 stores have such tunes. Normal ones like iTunes and Amazon.
Alex Moschopoulos
Participant1900s?
You’re thinking then of classic marches and old party tunes before the age of jazz.
Maybe start with the 20s.

ParticipantSounds like items found in a scratch record/sample string. Most of the work falls on the DJ to make their own thing. This guy explored his tunes and pieced it all together in a DAW or something, pressing it into a tune to play.

ParticipantI honestly like Peter Clarke.
Sounds like a superstar DJ name.

ParticipantNot sure. I guess my curiosity is what value we could add to an app that you won’t get on a browser?
Maybe build it so students who buy classes can easily pull up and play videos with a nice interface.
From an article/site/forum viewpoint though, I’ve been fine in iOS Safari and now Android Chrome.

ParticipantI like where you’re going. Maybe do a smoother/geometrical version of that robot’s head looking straight at you.
I know I said the “lines of sound”, but I think simpler/smoother would work.
Next time you post, toss your “SENTRI” text with it so we get the full view.

ParticipantI think waveforms seem more “techno”.
Maybe try a triangle with sides that curve inward, or some shape with thick lines the way half of the soundcloud logo does.
Alex Moschopoulos
ParticipantLove the text on how you have your name now.
Not a fan of the waveform diamond.

ParticipantI’d kill the upper space on the “e” and keep the lower one. The “r” I’d leave alone. Maybe chop out the upper-right extension on the “n”.
The “t” just confuses the eye, and I think the “s” would look good connected up.

ParticipantI like where you’re going. My only worry is if your font is difficult to read. If the “T” would be seen as a “T”.
If you have the means, I’d get rid of the little gaps in the letters. Make them into solid letters, but in that shape. Keep the space between letters though.

ParticipantWell if you are in your bedroom and take really really good care you might be lucky.
And that’s the kicker.
Bear in mind that while I’ve praised the Behringer CMD components I bought…I’m basically just using them in my home to make mixes to upload.
If I was still out there gigging, I’d probably by an S4, or that Numark 4trak. I also don’t think those Behringer controllers aren’t built to take wear and tear.
This is also why though I try to dive into what a DJ wants to do with DJing. If he/she is just learning or wants to play around as a hobby, then I push them towards the inexpensive consumer stuff. However, if they want to gig, travel, or do mobile work, then I’ll push them to spend the money on pro-level stuff.
I used to roll my eyes years ago when amateurs asked about non-Technics turntables, and would get loads of flack for daring to even look at anything buy 1200s and Pioneer mixers. I’ve tried Numarks, Stantons, and even Gemini turntables back then, and they work perfectly fine for starting out. Not everyone can just plop thousands on a hobby they’re not sure they’ll stay with…it’s only when you want to get serious that you make the investment.
I’ll stand by that today even…and would not overlook the lower end brands like Gemini, Hercules, or Behringer for rookies, amateurs, and hobbyists.

ParticipantUhmmm, what tears. Only thing I saw was people saying that the MacBook is a great choice for DJ-ing, if not the best?
I think he’s afraid of spending the big money for a MB or MBP, and then some spilled beer or what not will bring him a huge loss.
In reality, I don’t agree…as I’ve stated you can’t spend cheap and think your laptop will work flawlessly. MacBook or ThinkPad with clean Windows install, you’re going to spend the money. A $700 laptop from Best Buy or Walmart won’t cut it in my opinion.
Frankly though, I think he should go with his decision, and see how it works out. If he has problems with Windows, then he can sell the laptop or save up and buy another choice. I personally don’t think he will. Not if he gets a decent machine.

ParticipantIt sounds like you need a logo similar to what the Trance DJs do. Nothing wrong with that, but more it’s on trying to nail the beginnings of your brand image.
Let’s look at some examples:

Beyond a few outliers, you notice the similarities? They all use sleek, smooth, thick, bold fonts. Many look futuristic, airy, and contemporary. W&W stands apart with their more gritty logo, and Gareth Emery changes it up with how he did his last name.
My suggestion would be to start there. Go on dafont.com and look at your name in the fonts. You can type in “Sentri” and you’ll see. Tweak and play from there. Also make sure to try “Sentri”, “sentri”, and “SENTRI”…as you might find different ideas.
Beyond that, use these as inspiration. If you’re still stuck, then talk to a student designer, or try a crowdsourcing site like 99designs.com
