Participant@Arnaldi…that’s a great tune. A true representation of the beginnings of Big Beat from all the acid breaks that were pumping in the mid-90s.
@Gerd…very smooth tune. Would love to see a modern remake in the more smooth deep house style.
@Vintage…that’s a very cool pick. I keep waiting for the chorus to kick in, despite that it wasn’t in there. It’s funny how much hip-hop had evolved from those early years.

ParticipantMusic – If i have to hang up Spotify, what is the best way to get hold of the tracks from my playlists in MP3 format? I have a lot of older stuff but there is still a lot of new music coming through that i get on Spotify
You’ll have to buy it. Look at Amazon Music or iTunes or other avenues.
And don’t be afraid to try again. Maybe a house party or what not.

ParticipantPretty cool tune.

ParticipantI’m also thinking I should post this in timing with “Tuesday Morning” in Europe…since it seems many of our “family” here are in Europe.
I’ll try to time the “Flashback Friday” one to be Friday morning in Europe. See how that plays.

ParticipantThank you! I’m sure this one will be slow to start…as I think many might be only dropping in the music section to post mixes.

ParticipantGCM EDM CLUB, there is nothing too “mainstream” or “underground” for this weekly thing. No judgement or anything from anyone.
I just feel like this section has just become a repository of mixes, and yet while we discuss software, gear, and the industry…we never seem to discuss music.
I mainly wanted to share what I’m into at the moment, and find out what you’re all into.
The tune you posted has some killer energy and out of the vast array of “big room”/”hand heart” EDM I’ve heard, it’s got a solid sound.
Thanks for posting…and hope to see more in the coming weeks.

ParticipantThat is so weird. My video posting worked even now after I cleared caches. I wonder if it’s a region thing?
Here it is on SoundCloud

ParticipantWe’ll see…I notice the forum is quiet today.
And Bob’s tune is quite interesting. Where’s your pick Vintage?

ParticipantHere’s one I picked up recently off Traxsource that I’m feeling…
Title: Streets of Rage (Original Mix)
Artist: Hapkido
Label: EmbyGenre(s): Deep funky house
With “Deep House” being tossed around, mainly confused with “Future House”, I generally like to stick to what I think is a more “true” sound in the more funky/jazzy vibe that many in Chicago worship.
I liked Streets of Rage mainly for its 90s vibe, as I’m seeing a lot of that sound sliding into the scene lately. I think it’s the organs and piano that gave me that 90s NYC house vibe, along with the wonderful sax solo. The rhythm only keeps the energy going, as I am not into sleepy minimal sounds.

ParticipantSo Mods…should we do this? Or not?
If so, should I just start up topics and you’ll sticky/unsticky them?

ParticipantMaybe Tuesday would be the day where we all post new tunes any of us think others should check out, and Fridays we do “Flashback Fridays” where we post old school classics.
Here’s how the initial posts could go…
Subject: Tuesday Music Share for MM/DD/YYYY
Body:
Being a DJ is about being an educator in music. You’re an evangelist for each and every new and amazing tune you encounter. With that in mind, we at Digital DJ Tips want you to share ONE new tune you’re feeling passionate about, and think the rest of us should hear (and potentially buy). Please post some kind of a link for ONE new tune you’re into at the moment. A video or audio link with maybe the title, artist, and what genres you think this tune falls into. If you’re feeling ambitious, then tell us also why you like this tune so much.
This topic will be open for one day, then locked. We’ll do this every Tuesday. Please only post one new tune, so we don’t end up with an overload of new music to look at.
Subject: Flashback Friday Music Share for MM/DD/YYYY
Body:
Let’s talk CLASSICS. You know, those old tunes from your past. The song you remember from your first kiss, your first club, your first rave, your first gig, etc. Don’t think you’re too young to have classics. Classics aren’t limited to the 70s and 80s.So in the spirit of Flashback Friday, we want you to post one tune that’s a classic in your heart. Forget the release date, just share one. Please post some kind of a link to video or audio with maybe the title, artist, and what genres you think this tune falls into. If you’re feeling ambitious, then tell us also why this classic means so much to you.
This topic will be open for one day, then locked. We’ll do this every Friday. Please only post one classic, so we don’t end up with an overload.

Participant1001 Tracklists is wonderful after Ultra. I’m amazed how the community can so quickly tracklist those mixes. So handy.

ParticipantWhat’s your software?
Traktor
What made you choose your software?
I had gone from Final Scratch (with Traktor DJ Studio) to Deckadance to Torq…and grew tired of buying into systems where a couple of years later their “parent company” decides to axe it. At the time, NI had an $89 deal on Traktor Pro, so I bought in and lever looked back.
Beyond wanting a title that (in my opinion) will never be killed, I liked Traktor for its solid system and how it’s geared mainly towards Midi control users. I had gotten off using timecode and thus felt Serato wasn’t for me.
What type of gigs do you play with it?
Just making mixes at home. If I was gigging outside I’d be playing clubs and raves.
What makes you favor it over the others?
Reliability, support from their parent company, and a huge community making mappings and giving support when needed. It’s never let me down.
Alex Moschopoulos
ParticipantI’d refrain from doing it. If you can’t play five hours like that, then you’re missing what being a DJ is. It’s not short “guest spot” sets, but long nights. Danny Teneglia would play 10 hours in a night.
It’s up to you.
Alex Moschopoulos
ParticipantIn all honesty, I’d probably just do it since this is a student project that isn’t going to be put in theaters with tickets sold. I take it you’ll show it only to your class right?
The right way though would be to contact the artist, ask for and get permission, possibly pay royalties, and then give credit for the tune in your ending credits. Just remember that if you go beyond this. You also could look into royalty-free music.
However, if you’re worried, then email the artist. What can it hurt?
