ParticipantBear in mind Martin Garrix was 17 when he first played Ultra.
He’s 19 now. Anything can happen.

ParticipantI would tell him to talk to his school and see if he can offer services for some student functions. Beyond that, I would tell him to look into avenues that do not involve age-limit venues, like podcasts, daytime parties, etc.
Frankly, if he’s young and building the skills, then this is a prime time for him to build a following that he can take into his adulthood. Seen many local success stories start off as the high school kid who built a solid foundation from his classmates.
It’s also cool you’re a supportive parent.

ParticipantI’m heading home. I’ll try there. 🙂

ParticipantNo. I post a formatted message using the text editor in this forum.
I post some text, an image, four pieces of text each linking to different places to get the mix, then a playlist using an ordered list (ol).
I’ve done this before…just don’t understand why now I’m getting this issue. Is it because I have four links in these posts? (Mixcloud, MixCrate, House-Mixes.com, and a link to my site). None are embedded players, just hyperlinks to pages on the respective sites.

ParticipantHere’s house on the tech note for me…
Title: The Hype
Artist: SP1DER
Label: Urbana RecordingsIf you know me, you’ll know I hate tech house that’s bland, boring, minimal, etc…but I’m not about to turn up the cheese to add energy. SP1DER did a marvelous job of building energy while keeping the sound real. Just a good tune to bump to.

ParticipantLet me ask…is BPM mainly about DJ gear and electronic/rap music production? Or is it about all music production?

ParticipantThe big question is…what is your budget?

ParticipantYouTube has an editor with clips and things you could use.
Many others just “borrow” from other videos or shoot their own.

ParticipantIt’s late, I’m lying in bed, and one more buzzed me and I had to share:
Title: I Know
Artist: New Atlantic
Label: 3 Beat / PWLGenre(s): House, Rave, Baeleric
Year Released: 1991I remember working out in a gym in the late 90s when this tune came on their music system. I had wondered for years what it was until I came across it on a CD Box set compilation of classic rave tunes.
I had always wished this tune was arranged to be more DJ friendly, but it’s still an anthem. That piano just hooks you and the sample from Candi Station just makes it complete.

ParticipantA second one in memory of the 9/11 victims…
Title: America (I Love America)
Artist: Full Intention
Label(s): Stress, Polydor, Sugar Daddy, Logic, Big BeatGenre(s): House
Year Released: 1996This tune was funny for me, as the first time I heard it was on of all places…MTV.
In one of the few times MTV actually embraced DJ and club culture, they were featuring live DJs on their dance show The Grind. Legendary NYC DJ David Morales was on the 1’s and 2’s, and my mind was blown when he dropped America (I Love America). It was just that smooth flow combined with a sampling from disco artist Patrick Juvet. Full Intention just made it work, and I became a big fan.

ParticipantHere’s an all-time house anthem from the 90s:

Title: Make The World Go Round (Deep Dish Vocal Mix)
Artist: Sandy B
Label: ChampionGenre(s): House, Deep House
Year Released: 1996I first heard this tune from a free CD compilation that came with the late MUZIK Magazine. It’s just such a happy tune with a funky beat and enough depth to keep it from being cheesy. I remember hearing it played all over the deep house clubs of Chicago, and I’d still pull this one out to surprise listeners in a mix. Definitely one tune I’d recommend any house DJ should own.

ParticipantNice tune Bob…welcome back.

ParticipantI had only two ideas:
IDEA 1: A somewhat more realistic idea along what We Are Your Friends did, but with a bit of a gender reversal. It would be a very “average looking” female who becomes a DJ, faces the usual hardships of being a rookie, but slowly works her way into the big club in town…eventually showing her later in life as a touring DJ. There would be time jumps so you know she’s not just going from nobody to superstar in a short period…but more showing the hard work involved.
I’d make the leading male role her brother, so there’s no “cute guy” who becomes a love interest. Her brother will be her biggest support, maybe make him a graphic designer or something creative to help her along in that respect. I’d show the conflicts of “playing in the boy’s club” as well as industry pressure to focus on her looks over skill…but she chooses skill/talent, maybe even showing up some “manufactured” fake girl DJ Paris Hilton wannabe (who would be one of the antagonists).
IDEA 2: I’d make it a “period piece” that takes place in the Second Summer of Love. It could be a love story of a guy and girl who seemingly meet in a rave and thus go from event to event to know one another…or maybe a story of a promoter throwing events with a motley crew of characters involved. The music, fashion, etc. would all be 1988-1989 and maybe it climaxes with the passing of the Criminal Justice Act, causing a downfall into a mellow ending with everyone moving on and passing the torch.
