I personally only use drops when I make mixes for radio or similar online shows. I just found it tacky at a live gig.

ParticipantIt’s really up to you if you want or do not want a website.
In your case, this all sounds like some fun project that you’ll play with until you get bored or move on. However, if you suddenly “blow up” in this, and are getting booked for good-paying shows and/or you’re selling your tunes online, then the owners of the copyrighted materials you use will take notice. Right now they don’t because you’re not threatening their profits.
My pushes on DJs having “official websites” is more when they really want to get serious about marketing themselves. When you see a DJ seeking bigger gigs and more money. Social Media alone won’t cut it, as your “official site” should be the “Rome” that all your roads (Social Media) leads to. However, if you see no need right now and aren’t going beyond fun and smaller gigs, then don’t worry about it.
Currently, my own site (http://www.d-jam.com) is mainly for me to show as a portfolio piece to potential web design clients and employers. You can see there’s not much there other than mixes and two mashups I “recreated”. I too would probably have no need for an “official site” had I not worked in web design/development.
I only push a site when one wants to get serious about their marketing and especially in building their brand.

ParticipantLoved the other two you posted. I always miss that sound of UK R&B. Just was way more sophisticated.

ParticipantGURU JOSH COMMITTED SUICIDE?????
That sucks…I actually liked Infinity and made a point to put it in my first “Remembering the Rave” mix.
Your video doesn’t play here in the US, so here’s one for the Americans.

ParticipantOne more from Spiller…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klAXU06CTeY
Title: Batucada
Artist: Spiller
Label: Black MoonGenre(s): House, Deep House, Latin House
Year released: 1998While Groovejet was the anthem that put Spiller on the map, in many circles, this tune was our first real taste of Spiller’s talent. I’d hear it played all over the deep house scene here in Chicago, and was excited to land a copy back then.
The song is a cover of a slower, original creation by Samba greats Marcos Valle, Paulo Valle and Ray Gilberto. Spiller had brought in Italian vocalist Moony for the voice, and the rest is just happy rhythm.

ParticipantI have Spiller on my mind today
Title: Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)
Artist: Spiller featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor
Label: PositivaGenre(s): House, Deep House
Year released: 1999Spiller was an Italian DJ and producer who concocted a great instrumental house tune from a sample of an old Salsoul cut, “Love Is You” by Carol Williams. I had heard Pete Tong pump it on an Essential Selection compilation he made. DJs loved the tune, but the label wanted it more palatable for radio play…thus vocalist Sophie Ellis-Bextor, formerly of the indie rock band Theaudience, was brought in.
By the time I landed a copy of Groovejet, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s vocals were added in, and I have to be honest, I loved the tune even more now with her voice flowing through that groove. I still love that tune to this day, as I see it as timeless.

ParticipantMy initials are AM, and my friends suggested D-Jam back in 1991 when I started.
I thought about going with a “normal name”, but now I don’t see any real reason.

ParticipantGood stuff Gerd!

ParticipantHere’s one I encountered recently…
Title: It’s Alright Now
Artist: The Beloved
Label: EastWestGenre(s): House
Year released: 1990The Beloved is a UK dance group more known for a handful of Summer of Love hits like “The Sun Rising” and a pop smash “Sweet Harmony”. I mainly heard “Sweet Harmony” over some European radio, but encountered “It’s Alright Now” surfing around clips of an old UK show, Dance Energy.

ParticipantSecond one, from the classic “Beat Street”
Title: Santa’s Rap
Artist: The Treacherous Three
Label: AtlanticGenre(s): Rap, Hip-Hop
Year released: 1984Most interesting aspect was how this was a start for Doug E Fresh and Kool Moe Dee. Funny how KMD went from Santa to more “harder” rapper when the group disbanded.

ParticipantGoing to be cheesy today…starting with this “holiday classic”:
Title: Christmas In Hollis
Artist: Run DMC
Label: A&MGenre(s): Rap, Hip-Hop
Year released: 1987No explanation needed, just a line from Die Hard…
John MacClaine: Don’t you have any christmas music?
Argyle: This is christmas music man!
